COVID-19 Athletics Update

CIAC Announcement Regarding Winter Sports  (posted on 11/17/20)

The CIAC Board of Control acted to postpone all winter sports to January 19, 2021. The CIAC Board of Control will continue to collaborate with the DPH, Governor Lamont’s office, and the CSMS Sports Medicine Committee in the weeks leading up to the January 19th start of winter practices. CIAC Interscholastic athletics are an education-based experience that maintains in-person learning and the health and safety of school communities as the top priority. This action supports member schools while they continue manage rising COVID numbers within their communities and experience widespread movements to distance learning.

Athletics Update during COVID-19 (Fall Season)

The district will follow CIAC regulations regarding the participation of students in high school athletics and activities. Students in the hybrid model are allowed to participate in after school athletic sessions on the days they are not physically in the building. Similarly, students in full-time distance learning may also participate in after school athletic sessions.

● After school athletics activities will generally begin after 2:30 p.m. (at coach’s discretion).

● Student-athletes are not allowed to remain on campus when the school day concludes at 12:30 p.m. and will require their own transportation to/from practices. Hardship circumstances can be discussed on a case by case basis with the Director of Athletics.

● All after school athletics will presently take place outside of the school building until otherwise approved by the CIAC and SW district and reflect social-distancing measures and cohort assignments where feasible.
