Photography Club Announcement: Learn to take great pictures! Express yourself! Join the photography club. We are meeting every other Monday in room 11. New members of all experience levels welcome! Seats could fill quickly, we’re on a first come first serve basis. The next meeting is December 10. You don’t want to miss this great opportunity!

Seniors: If you have any colleges with a December 15 application deadline, your last day to submit transcript request forms is Monday, December 3.

All girls interested in trying out for Girls Lacrosse in the spring, there will be a meeting on Monday, December 3 at 2:10 pm in room 152.

Meri-Kurisu-masu! KFC on Christmas Eve? Why not? That's become a tradition in Japan. Learn all about the holidays and make Japanese holiday ornaments on Tuesday, December 4 in room 230.

The Italian Club will be making and eating pizza and more on Monday, December 10. All are welcome, but space is limited so bring $5 to Mrs. Zaccardelli in room 226 to save your space.

The Science Fiction/Fantasy club will hold its next meeting next Thursday, December 6 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm in room 127. Join us as we watch and discuss Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

The ASVAB exam will be offered this Friday at 7:25 am. Those signed up will report to the Seminar Room at that time. If you are not yet signed up and wish to take the test, please come to School Counseling by Thursday.

Remember, the homeroom which raises the most money will receive a prize. Tomorrow is the last day to donate toys to the same cause.

Hey Bobcat foodies! Tired of Thanksgiving leftovers? Join us TODAY after school as we go on a culinary tour of Italy and India. We'll be making butter chicken, stuffed shells, tiramisu, chai, and so much more. There are still spots available - just bring $5 to Ms. Cliff or Sra. Ruiz. 

Ryan Belekewicz will be holding a fundraiser at a local ice cream shop on Sullivan Avenue TODAY to raise money for his eagle project from 6:00-9:00 pm. Please come out to support the project! 

The Strategy Club will meet this Thursday, November 29 after school in room 7.

Remember, the homeroom that raises the most money will receive a prize. Tomorrow is the last day to donate. Calling all writers: the Scholastic Writing Awards is accepting submissions until December 4. The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is a national program that recognizes student achievement in writing and art. If you're interested in submitting original poetry, fiction, non-fiction, drama, or other work, please see your English teacher for more information or visit www.artandwriting.org

Anyone interested in trying out for any sport must have completed the online athletic registration, brought in a copy of their physician’s statement, and paid the fee of $125 to the main office prior to this tryout. Today, at lunch, SADD members will be collecting monitory donations for the Sock Drive. Donating $2 or more will entitle you to a prize. Please help SADD make its sock drive a success! Bring a dollar to school tomorrow.

Any freshman student planning on attending the To Kill a Mockingbird Field Trip to New York City on Wednesday, January 2 - please get your field trip permission slips into Mrs. White in room 144 by this Friday, November 30.

Common Ground is collecting toys for Coram Deo, an organization dedicated to helping women recovering from addiction and abuse in rebuilding their lives and families. This is in addition to the homeroom competition next week. Toys can be left in the box in front of the security desk for those who want to donate through November 30.

Athletic News:

Wrestling and Girls Basketball Tryouts will begin this upcoming Monday, November 26. All other winter sports will begin on Thursday, November 29. All wrestlers (grades 9-12) should report to the wrestling room Monday, November 26 from 2:15-4:00 pm. All Girls Basketball players (grades 9-12) will meet in the gym from 3:00–6:00 pm. Tryout information for other winter sports will be announced Monday in school and also be available on the SWHS website by the end of today under the Athletics tab.

Any student interested in visiting the Operations and Information Management (OPIM) Innovation Lab at the UCONN School of Business on Wednesday, December 12 should see Ms. Festi for a permission slip. The OPIM department features various emerging technologies including Virtual Reality, 3D Printing, Internet of Things (IOT), Microcontrollers and Data Analytics devices. Students will have an opportunity to tour the facility, hear UCONN student perspectives on innovation, and experience the technologies first hand during "open tech" time in the lab. This is a free trip that includes lunch, however, spots are limited so please see Ms. Festi for your permission slip today!

The SWHS National Honor Society offers a FREE tutoring service to all students. This program is available to any student in need of help at any time throughout the school year. Students can contact National Honor Society directly by filling out the Google form. Parents can request a tutor by emailing NHS directly at [email protected]. The specifics can be found on the SWHS home page. Don't fall behind, get extra help if you need it!

The Ellington YMCA has a high demand for lifeguards. If you do not have lifeguard training, but are interested in receiving it, they offer reimbursement for your training after a successful period of employment. Information on the upcoming training sessions and the job posting are on the Programs and Events board in the Career Center.

Clothing donations to the homeless rarely include socks. When homeless service organizations are asked what they need the most, the answer is consistently SOCKS. Please drop off a pair of socks for SADD’s Sock drive.

The Freshman Class of 2022 is hosting a fundraiser tonight at a local Bakery and Sandwich Shop at 100 Hemlock Avenue. The fundraiser will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Please bring a copy of the flyer on the walls or posted on social media. Thank you for your support! 

Ms. Lane and the students part of the Leadership of Greater Hartford Common Ground Program will hold a homeroom competition next week November 26 to November 29. This will be a fundraiser for Coram Deo, an organization dedicated to helping women recovering from addiction and abuse in rebuilding their lives and families. The homeroom who donates the most money will receive a prize. Also, there will be a box by the security desk for those who would like to donate toys to the same cause through November 30.

The Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) will meet today in room 148 at 2:00 pm. Please check Google Classroom to add new items to the agenda. New members are always welcome!

The Boys and Girls Indoor Track team will have their pre-season meeting today at 2:10 pm in room 157.  Please see Coach Zeuschner if you cannot attend.

There will be an informational Girls’ Basketball meeting today at 2:15 pm in room 102 to discuss tryout dates, times and expectations. All girls interested in trying out for basketball are encouraged to attend this meeting.  Anyone unable to attend should notify Athletic Director, Mr. Sytulek.

Athletic Surveys will take place today in the main gym from 2:10 - 2:40 pm for any fall athletes that have not taken one yet.

Do you remember reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee? The classic novel is now a Broadway play. There are open spots on a January 2 field trip with the English department. Interested? See Mrs. White in room 144 for a permission slip. Cost of trip is $85 with lunch on your own. 

For anyone attending the Bobcat Leaders for Inclusion Conference on Monday November 19, please make sure you have handed in your permission slips to Mrs. White in room 144. Today is the final day that these permission slips can be accepted. The conference will start at 8:25 am and last until 2:00 pm. Please bring your chromebook.

A reminder to all who have signed up for Friday's ASVAB exam: You are to report to the Seminar Room by 7:25 am Friday morning. Students may still sign up for the ASVAB - if you are interested, please come to School Counseling by Thursday morning. If you have questions, see Dr. LaRochelle in School Counseling.

Seniors applying to colleges with December 1 deadlines, please note that transcript request forms are due no later than Thursday, November 15 to the School Counseling office in order to be processed in time.

There will be a Student Council meeting for all representatives after school on Thursday, November 15 in room 163. New members always welcome! We will discuss the upcoming dance!

The Science Fiction/Fantasy club will hold its next meeting on Thursday, November 15 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Join us for some time to write your own creative fiction in room 127. New and returning members welcome.

Attention members and potential members of Bobcat Robotics: we will be meeting on Thursday, November 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in room 12. See you there!

Art Club has a meeting today after school until 3:45 pm. You can continue a project or start a new one.  Mr. Zilinski will be doing a demonstration on acrylic paint pouring if you are interested.

Athletic News:

Athletic surveys for all fall athletes of Football, Field Hockey, Boys & Girls Soccer and Girls Swimming will be held on Thursday, November 15 in the SWHS gym from 2:10 - 2:40 pm. Varsity, JV and freshman athletes of these sports are encouraged to attend. Please bring your Chromebooks.

The Girls Swim team had an amazing State Finals meet on Tuesday night. Standout performances came from Sarah Mulcahy in the 100 fly and Amanda Walsh in the 100 breaststroke. Congratulations to Emma Hapkiewitz who broke her own record in the 500 with a time of 5:09.44. The girls placed 8th overall out of 20 teams in the state. Congratulations to all girls who qualified for finals!
