SCHOOL NEWS:


Calling Seniors who have taken multiple art classes! The Senior Art Exhibition is happening soon. This is your opportunity to show your artwork and qualify for an Art Honor Cord! Join the Google Classroom with the code: mqdgfcp to learn the Guidelines and Judging Criteria and to fill out the application. If you are interested in earning an honor cord in art, you MUST participate in the judged section of this Senior Art Exhibition. There is a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, May 1st and applications are due May 3rd - If you have any questions, be sure to reach out to an art teacher so we can help!

The Strategy Club will meet on Wednesday after school in the back of the media center.


Come join the HOPE Club to celebrate DNA Day this Thursday, April 25th, in the back of the Media Center. We will be learning all about DNA, making DNA models and even competing for a fun prize! We hope to see you all there!


FBLA is hosting its annual 3 V 3 basketball tournament on April 29th from 2pm-4pm in the Main Gym. Sign up during lunch waves from April 15th thru April 26th. 


The Cooking Club's theme for the month of April is “Think Spring”. We will be cooking on Thursday, April 25th in Room 105 at SWHS starting at 2:05 PM. The menu items are:  strawberry Lemonade, spring rolls, vegetable fried rice, sheet pan chicken and spinach sausage, Spring Rice Krispy Treats and Spring colored M&M sugar cookies. Please bring $5 to Sra. Ruiz in AN 56 or to Sra. Hwang in AN 37 to reserve your spot today.


The next Italian Club meeting will be THURSDAY, May 2nd, right after school until the late bus in Room 105. We will be making pizza, bruschetta, salad, and dessert. Spots are limited so bring $5 to Mrs. Zaccardelli in Annex Room 35 to save a spot.


The National Honor Society Prom Dress Committee is collecting homecoming and prom attire, including shoes and jewelry, in the Main Lobby now through May 3rd. The dresses will be donated to Cornerstone Cares for underserved communities.


COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER:


Grade 10 students who would like to be considered for the Rotary Youth Leadership conference (taking place on Saturday, June 1st at Springfield College) should speak to Mrs. Carty to gain access to the application form. Applications will be due by Friday, May 3rd so please see her in time. 


If you have a driver’s license, a reliable car and an interest in doing office work, there is a law firm in Vernon looking for your help. Please visit the part-time jobs bulletin board in the Career Center to see the job posting and learn how to apply.

SCHOOL NEWS:


Hey AP Bio students! Nervous about the AP exams? Try coming to an AP review session hosted by the SNHS. We will go over the basics and practice for the exam. The sessions run from April 22nd thru May 13th.  Everybody is welcome, but save a spot with your friends and sign up using the link posted in your AP Bio Google Classrooms or scan the code in the SNHS Showcase.

Are you a student interested in learning and sharing the language and cultures of various Hispanic and Latino countries? If so, join the Hispanic/Latino Student Alliance.  This club aims to celebrate the various Hispanic and Latino countries that are represented here at South Windsor High School by creating a space for students to build community while sharing their culture.  The Hispanic/Latino Student Alliance will have their first meeting on Wednesday, April 24th at 2:15PM in Annex Rm. 54. For more information on the club, reach out to Ms. Tobon in ANNEX 54.

Choices Matter, a program about safety during the spring celebration season, will be held Monday April 22 from 5:00 to 6:30 in the auditorium. All students are urged to attend.


If you ordered a 9th Grade Class of 2027 T-Shirt, please pick it up at the Annex. See Mrs. Barrett with any questions. 


Attention South Windsor High School students: On Tuesday, April 23th, we will be wearing yellow in honor of School Bus Driver Appreciation Day. Interact Club members will receive half an hour of credit when they send a picture of their yellow outfit. Non-Interact members are also encouraged to wear yellow to show their love for their bus driver.

ATHLETICS:


Last Tuesday, Girls Track and Field competed against Tolland.  First place finishes were had by Jaya Pichay in the 100 and 400, Sofia Holovatska in the 800 and 1600, Katie Dunn in shot put, London Bascomb in javelin, and Jaya Pichay, Serena Thaker, Keeley Scott and Ariana Rosario in the 4X100.

Please join the 9th grade class of 2027 for their fundraiser at a local signature sushi bowl place at 179 Deming Street in Manchester on Wednesday, April 3rd. Please mention that you are from SWHS.


CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:  


Check out SWHS's Equity Council and many other clubs at the Multicultural Fair on Monday, April 1st from 6:30 to 8 pm. Watch some beautiful dance performances, get your henna done, eat delicious food, and explore the many different cultures that make up our school community. The event is free and open to all, so we hope to see you there!


Harbor Chase Club will host a fundraiser on Tuesday, April 2 at a local Mexican Grill located on Hale Road. All proceeds go to funding activities for residents at the retirement home.


The Sexuality and Gender Alliance is selling bracelets and pins to commemorate the Day of Silence. Help spread awareness about violence against the LGBTQ+ community. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Trevor Project.


Vision is a career exploration club where you will meet guest speakers from careers and professions you are interested in to learn more about them. We are meeting with a small business owner on Monday April 1st after school in Room 257 in the math hallway from 2-3pm. Join to learn more about what it's like managing a business and more helpful tips for high school and college. Join the google classroom using the code w722pmw for more updates.


COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER:


Would you like to share kindness at SWHS, or contribute to the positive mental health of students? Do you have a project in mind to support inclusion and/or respect? Can you think of an idea that would encourage a more positive school community? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is your chance to do something! We are thrilled to announce that the Make a Change (MAC) Grants are available once again through S. W. Youth & Family Services. This grant encourages students to put their ideas into action. Proposals can come from one student, a group of students or an entire classroom. More information and the link to the application is on the SWHS main page. Applications are due by APRIL 5th.

Congratulations to the students of the month for February! These students have been nominated by their teachers for showing excellence in Portrait of a Graduate Attributes. They are: Angelina Murray and Shaun Norcott in Grade 9, Nev Gravseth-Roman and Siddharthan Muralidhara in grade 10, Satvik Kadappanavar and Abigail Ramirez in grade 11 and Celestine Hassoubi and Owen Wagner in grade 12.
