SCHOOL NEWS:

The 9th grade class of 2027 is hosting a fundraiser at a local sandwich shop at 1006 Sullivan Avenue this Wednesday, January 10th from 4 to 7 PM. Please mention SWHS 9th grade class and we will get 20% of the sale! Thanks in advance for your support!

Attention Seniors: the final wave of Capstone presentations will take place on January 23 and 24.  You must present your Capstone in January.  In order to present, your written work must be turned into your advisor's Google Classroom by Friday January 12th.  You then need to fill out the Google Form on the Capstone Website so we know you are ready to present and can reserve you a time slot.  Reach out to your adviser if you have questions.

Student drivers please be cautious when leaving the high school in the afternoon. Passing a school bus that has its lights on, sign out, and is loading up is a $500 fine. This fine is for every bus that you pass. Also, this traffic violation will result in points against your license and your insurance rates going up. Please drive safely.

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:

The Japanese Club will meet this THURSDAY, January 11 in room 230. We will enjoy traditional Japanese food, learn Japanese and Japanese culture and watch anime

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER:

College bound Seniors: There are about 3 weeks left to submit applications to the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving scholarship program. This is a great opportunity as only students from certain towns can apply. Within this group of scholarships, there are 2 that are specifically for South Windsor students – the Joyce Picard Scholarship, awarded to students pursuing science, medicine, nursing or health-related areas and the Julie Veilleux Scholarship, awarded to female students who have demonstrated significant leadership qualities and/or academic achievement, but may be more reserved.

The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch is offering an Experiential Learning Program via Zoom for high school students in grades 10-12 on February 2nd from 12:30-2:00 PM. The session will provide an overview of careers in the Judicial Branch with breakout sessions in specific areas. If you are interested in participating in this program, speak to Mrs. Carty in the Career Center by Friday, January 19th.
