Art Club will have a meeting Thursday, January 31 from 2:00 pm to 3:45 pm in room 7. If you would like to print an Art Club t-shirt, please bring a t-shirt to do so. New and returning members are welcome to join and come create some artwork!

It’s Spirit Week! Tomorrow is Football Friday. Support your favorite football team in honor of Super Bowl Sunday.

Sign up to audition for the spring play, "Clue," outside room 147. Please fill out an audition form and report to your audition TODAY in room 144. See Mrs. White for details.

Unified Sports has their first home basketball game after school on Thursday at Wapping School gym! Come out to support the team at 3:00 pm!

Do you need a positive break in your schedule next year? A class that allows you to be creative, move around, interact with your classmates, be silly, and express yourself? Still looking for that Humanities Elective credit? Join us in Theatre Studies! Whether you've been on stage your whole life or always wanted to try it out but never had the courage, this class will allow you to develop your performance skills while creating a character for the stage. We'll build your confidence, practice teamwork, play games, and most of all, allow you a fun and productive break in your day! This class is open to 9th - 12th graders, so all are welcome. See Mrs. Stodd Knapp with questions, and be sure to tell your Counselor you are interested in Theatre Studies for the 2019-2020 school year.

All those interested in playing Boys’ Lacrosse this spring, there will be a brief informational meeting Thursday, January 31 at 6:00 pm in the Seminar Room. All players and parents encouraged to attend. If you cannot attend please contact Coach Giordano.

The Gay-Straight Alliance will meet today, January 30 at 2:00 pm in room 148. Come for the snacks, stay for the awesome action items and conversation! Hope to see you there.

There will be a South Windsor for the Kids meeting after school today at 2:05 pm in the back of the Cafeteria. All members should attend for important dance marathon information.

The South Windsor Patriotic Commission Annual Memorial Day Student Essay Contest is underway for 2019. Essay topics and awards are determined by grade level. Students in grades K through 12 may participate in the contest. Entry forms with full details are available in the Career Center. The contest ends on February 28.

The next Travel Club Meeting will be on Tuesday, February 5 at 6:00 pm in the Cafeteria for all students, parents and chaperones going on the trip to Spain and Italy. The following meeting will be on Thursday, March 21 at 6:00 pm in the Cafeteria for all students, parents and chaperones going on the trip. Please make every effort to attend both meetings.

It's a good opportunity to learn about the golf program requirements and expectations and ask the coach any questions you might have about the 2019 spring season.

The South Windsor Dollars for Scholars application portal has officially opened. It will close promptly on March 15 at 11:59 pm. The application process can be lengthy, but worth your time, so do not wait to get started. You can find the link for the portal on the SWHS homepage. Read all instructions carefully and come to School Counseling or the Career Center if you need help. This is a great opportunity for scholarship money so get to work and good luck!

If you know a high school senior or an adult in the South Windsor community who has demonstrated outstanding community service, consider nominating them for a Eugene Policelli Service Award. Nomination forms for both students and adults are available in the Career Center and must be submitted by March 1. If you know a deserving person, consider suggesting them for this notable community award.

Bonjour, Hola and Buongiorno: The Travel Club will be selling red, pink and white carnations, 3 for $5 or $2 each, as well as various colors of heart shaped earrings which are $10 a pair, in the cafeteria during lunch waves today, January 28 through Wednesday, January 30. Surprise a friend or your special valentine. Orders will be delivered on Wednesday, February 13. Help support our Spain and Italy trip on April break.

Seniors – the application portal for South Windsor Dollars for Scholars will open on Monday, January 21. Start your application early! To create a profile and apply for these scholarships, go to www.southwindsor.dollarsforscholars.org and click on the tab that says Students and Parents. Read the information on that screen VERY carefully before creating your profile and starting your application. You will have until March 15 to complete your application. The process is lengthy, but well worth it, so start early and get it done. Stop into School Counseling and the Career Center for help along the way.

The deadline has passed for the large group of Hartford Foundation scholarships. However, there are several other individual scholarships to pursue. There are two in particular that are for South Windsor students only. They are the Joyce S. Picard Scholarship for students pursuing majors in science, medicine, nursing or a health-related area and the Julie Veilleux Memorial Scholarship for graduating female students who show strong leadership and academic achievement, but are more reserved in social interaction. Both scholarships are in the $1,000 - $2,000 range and are due by February 15. If you think you qualify, go to the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving site and search for them today. You can also find them listed in the scholarship database in Naviance.

There is an Anti-Stress Club meeting today, Thursday, January 17 after school in Room 207.

The Chamber Orchestra performance on Saturday has been postponed due to a scheduling problem. We will be back with a new performance date after mid-terms.

The Peer Mental Health Educators are hosting a pet therapy event at the high school today, Thursday, January 17. If you are interested in spending some time de-stressing with a pair of therapy dogs before midterms, you can sign up during lunch in the back of the cafeteria.

The Science Fiction/Fantasy club will not meet this week due to Capstone. Our next meeting will be Thursday, January 31.

Yesterday, the Math Team won its third out of four league meets this season, and is now in first place in the standings in the 26-team Capitol Area Math League. The high scorer for the Bobcats was Keshav Ramesh, with outstanding performances turned in by Aryan Kalia, Samantha West, Samantha Donovan, Jaideep Naik, Michael Ngo, and Noah Leibowitz.
