Bonjour, Hola and Buongiorno,
The Travel Club will be selling red, pink and white carnations, 3 for $5 or $2 each, as well as various colors of heart shaped earrings which are $10 a pair, in the cafeteria during lunch waves on Monday, January 28 through Wednesday, January 30. Surprise a friend or your special valentine. Orders will be delivered on Wednesday, February 13. Help support our Spain and Italy Trip on April break.

Any Seniors planning to participate in the graduation ceremony need to submit an order form for their gown. The form can be found on the Class of 2019 page. See Ms. Andrews or Mrs. Mazzonna with any questions.

There is an Anti-Stress Club meeting this Thursday, January 17 after school in Room 207.

The Freshman Class of 2022 will be having a fundraiser at a local Mexican Grill on Sullivan Avenue TONIGHT, Wednesday, January 16 from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

FBLA will be canceled this week for the Capstone presentations. We will meet again the first Thursday of February.

All of those interested in continuing to be a part of the leadership team for girls lacrosse please come to room 152 after school on Monday, January 28 at 2:10 pm.

Seniors: Time slots and room assignments for Capstone presentations on Thursday, January 17 are posted on the Capstone website. Please see your adviser if you have any questions or concerns.

“The Peer Mental Health Educators” are hosting a pet therapy event at the high school this Thursday, January 17. If you are interested in spending some time de-stressing with a pair of therapy dogs before midterms get started, you can sign up during lunch in the back of the cafeteria.

The SWHS Chamber Orchestra will give a recital at the Wood Library on Saturday, January 19 at 4:00 pm. Featuring Alexa Shepardson, Maria Galley and Anthony Chen in a Cello Trio. A duet by Lloxci Lopez and James Bonzani. Solos by Taylor Chen, Gabe Galley, and Ethan LaVigne. And, of course, the entire ensemble will perform two pieces together. Hope to see you there!

The Freshman Class of 2022 will be having a fundraiser at a local Mexican Grill on Sullivan Avenue on Wednesday, January 16 from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

The John F. Kennedy Library is holding its annual “Profiles in Courage” Essay Contest with a range of prizes available to selected essays. Interested candidates will write a 700 – 1100 word essay that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by John F. Kennedy in his book Profiles in Courage. For specific information and guidelines, visit www.jfklibrary.org/essaycontest or see the poster hanging outside the Career Center. All essays must be submitted by January 18.

Students applying to the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving for the first wave of scholarships must complete all parts of their application and submit it no later than 4:00 pm TODAY. Please note that this is for the 64 scholarships that fall under ONE application. There are additional scholarships available through the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving with individual criteria and deadlines so continue to look at that site for more opportunities. Stay tuned for upcoming information about the South Windsor Dollars for Scholars program which launches next Monday, January 21.

The Bobcat Bowling Club is back! There will be a brief meeting after school on Tuesday, January 15 in room 168 for anyone interested in joining session 2 of the Bobcat Bowling Club. Applications will be available at the meeting

Today is the Italian Club meeting in room 226 right after school. We will be learning to play the Italian card game, Scopa, and having delicious snacks.

Attention sophomores! Donate any spare change you may have to your homeroom teacher. The homeroom that raises the most amount of money will win a special treat.

The program will begin in the auditorium with a presentation about Gap Year programs by a Gap Year Coordinator and Alumni, and will be followed by the fair in the cafeteria. For more information, please visit the link to USA Gap Year Fairs: www.usagapyearfairs.org. You are encouraged to register in advance.

For students interested in applying for scholarships through the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, this is a reminder that the deadline for the biggest pool of scholarships is January 15. If you haven’t already started your application, please do so as soon as possible as it takes some time to complete. If you have any trouble accessing the application portal, come to the Career Center for support.

Thank you to all who donated and volunteered to make Saturday’s Red Cross Blood Drive a great success. We collected 60 pints of blood which will help numerous people in need.

A student representative from the admissions office of Emmanuel College will be here Monday, January 7 at 11:30 am to speak to any students interested in knowing more about attending Emmanuel College. The visit is posted in Naviance. Please sign up and see Mrs. Carty for a pass to attend.

The Science Fiction/Fantasy club will hold its next meeting today, Thursday, January 3 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm in room 127. Join us for snacks as we watch and discuss Planet of the Apes.

Seniors: The deadline for submitting written work for Capstone has been updated and you may now turn in your written work to your adviser on or before Monday, January 7. Please note you must turn in written work by this deadline to be eligible to present on January 17. Please touch base with your adviser now that we are back from break.

There will be an FBLA meeting after school today, Thursday, January 3 in room 126. See you there.
