Anyone interested in joining the Bobcat Bowling Club should plan on attending a meeting Wednesday, September 27 after school from 2:15-2:45pm in Room 168. See Mr. Gray for more details.
 
Are you interested in camping and enjoying the great outdoors? Join the outing club on our first camping trip to Nickerson Campground on October 14th. Stop by room 234C to see Ms. Andrews or 254 to see Mrs. Lynch for permission slips or questions.
 
Do you love to practice yoga or have you ever wanted to try yoga?  Yoga club will have its first meeting and yoga practice Monday, September 18th at 2:15 in the Chorus room.  All experience levels are welcome!  Bring a friend and give it a try.  For more information contact Ms. Lane in room 6 or by email.
 
The Career Center will host more college representatives on Friday, September 15th.  If you are interested in meeting with St. John’s University, Johnson & Wales University or Southern Connecticut State University, please sign up in Naviance.  All college visits will be listed in Naviance, and displayed on both the electronic scroll and the white board outside School Counseling. 
 
School shirts will be being sold by BPO this week and next week. We will be handing out order forms in Homeroom and collecting money in lunch from Thursday the 14th, to next Wednesday, the 20th. If you did not receive an order form in Homeroom please go to the Main Office to get one.
 
Are you an avid League of Legends player? Join the MOBA club! Our first meeting is Monday in Room 9.
 
Are you a passionate person? Do you love to debate? Enjoy discussing hot button topics? Join Debate Club! Our informational meeting will take place Monday, September 18th after school in Room 131! The Homecoming Dance Planning Committee meets today at 2:10pm in Room 257.  This meeting is open to ANY student interested in helping plan.
 
The summer reading committee will meet tomorrow after school in Room 131 to approve books for next summer. If you are interested in being on the committee but cannot attend the meeting, see Mrs. Blocker in Room 131.

Athletic News:
Congratulations to the volleyball team for a clean sweep of Windsor last night at Home. The JV and freshmen teams both won 2-0, while varsity won 3-1 bouncing back to finish it out after a close score loss in Game 3. The team will travel to play at EO Smith this Friday. Good luck to the team, and we hope to see you there!

Are you feeling a little overwhelmed by your college search or the idea of filling out your Common App?  Are you stuck trying to write your college essay?  Does every school you like come with a huge tuition that you can't imagine paying?  Come to the Career Center for help!  Make your own appointment with Mrs. Carty to learn about how to use Naviance and other tools to explore careers and colleges, how to get rolling on your Common App and essays, and how to find scholarships that could help make all of this work a reality at the right college for you. See the School Counseling secretaries or Mrs. Carty in the Career Center to make an appointment.
 
Attention all students! The Fashion Club's first meeting will be Wednesday September 20th after school in room 7. If you're interested in learning about fashion, putting on a fashion show, creating wearable art, or bringing your own ideas, this is the club for you. New members are welcome!
 
Attention all SWHS students!  Want a leadership position for the high school?  Come to the Student Council meeting!  New and returning members welcome.  All grades welcome.  We will meet in Room 156 today at 2:05pm to discuss this year's elections and events.  
 
There will be open auditions on Monday, September 25th for the award winning Spectrum Band. Auditions will be held after school from 2-4 pm. Materials are posted on the wall outside the band room. The admissions staffs of Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn, and Stanford will collaborate on an information session entitled "Exploring College Options" on Wednesday, September 27th at 7 p.m. in Farmington.  Students interested in attending may register at www.exploringcollegeoptions.org.  An informational flyer is posted on the Programs and Events bulletin board in the Career Center.

Athletic News:
-The girls' varsity soccer team ran their record to 2-0 yesterday with a win over East Hartford.  Karly Suppicich, Jaylene Ferrabelo, Lindsay Fishman, Olivia Besthoff, and Kelly Morson scored on helpers from Suppicich, Fishman and Maddie Westfall.  Julia Sarra was a standout keeping the hornets from the hive while Jianna Mitchell and Molly Carroll combined for the shutout.  The team plays Windsor next on Friday.
-Girls’ varsity field hockey defeated East Catholic 11-0. They will take on Conard away on Thursday.

It is not too late to sign up or attend these great opportunities. Tomorrow (Wednesday) we will host representatives from University of New Haven, Lincoln Technical Institute, and Marist College. Seniors - remind your parents that Senior Parent Night is tomorrow night, Sept. 13, at 6:30 p.m. The program begins in the auditorium and will provide valuable information to guide you through the college application process!

Athletic News:
All three girls’ volleyball teams had tough matches at home last night vs. East Hartford. The freshmen team lost a close one 2-1, JV won 2-1 after making a big comeback in the 2nd game, and varsity won 3-1 with a score of 30-28 in a comeback win in game 3. The team will be home again tomorrow vs. Windsor. Good luck to the team; hope to see you in the stands cheering!

Athletic News:
-Girls’ field hockey defeated Newington in a 7-0 shutout. The team will play against East Catholic tomorrow at East Catholic.

-The girls' varsity soccer team opened their season on Friday with a victory over Manchester.  Karly Suppicich led the Bobcats with a Hat Trick, Lindsay Fishman added a tally of her own, while Jaylene Ferrabelo and Olivia Besthoff provided assists.  Nicole Grasso has a nice outing defensively. Jianna Mitchell and Molly Carroll combined for 6 saves.  The girls’ next game is tomorrow against East Hartford.

-Congratulations to the girls’ volleyball team for their well-played matches at Manchester Friday night. The freshmen team lost a close game to lose 2-0, JV won 2-1, and varsity posted a 3-0 win which included a big comeback in Game 1. The team will host East Hartford tonight for their season home opener with a JV/freshmen team start time of 4pm with the varsity match to follow. Good luck to the team, and we hope to see you there!

College visits will begin Monday!  These are an excellent way for you to explore colleges, ask personal questions, and make an impression on a counselor who will be reading your application.  Representatives from Suffolk University, Elms College, and Rivier University will all be in the Career Center this coming Monday, September 11th.  Check the listings in Naviance for specific times and to sign up to attend these visits.  If you are not sure how to do this, please see Mrs. Carty for assistance. 
 
Tufts University offers students from underrepresented communities an overnight visit to campus and the opportunity to experience all facets of college life.  The Voices of Tufts Diversity Experiences take place during two sessions in October – one for engineering and one for arts and sciences. If you are interested in this program, please see Mrs. Carty in the Career Center for details.  Applications are due in early October.

Students interested in attending upcoming fall college fairs can check out posters hanging outside School Counseling or on the Programs and Events bulletin board in the Career Center.  The NEACAC college fair takes place this Sunday, September 10th at Western New England University in Springfield and the NACAC fair takes place the following Sunday, September 17th in Boston.

Reminder…there will be a brief Capstone meeting for Ms. Griswold's group after school today in Room 227. See you there to discuss individual progress on projects, answer questions, and review guidelines for the fall.
 
The Paint for Positivity Club will have its very first meeting today, Thursday, September 7th, in Room 121 with Mrs. Rentz.  We will be cutting out and painting messages to put around the school.

Seeing footage and hearing stories about the devastation from Hurricane Harvey has left many of us counting our blessings and wondering how we can help. On Thursday morning, our school will try to fill a truck with donations to help victims in Houston. We are collecting household goods (blankets, air mattresses, batteries, flashlights), baby items (diapers, baby food, formula, bottles, clothes, wipes), non-perishable food (please nothing in glass and things that are easy to open, such as: water, Gatorade/Powerade, canned foods, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, granola bars, crackers, rice), clothing (sweatshirts, pants, new socks or underwear), and personal items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, body soap, deodorant, feminine products, toilet paper, razors). Donations will be accepted Wednesday and Thursday morning before 8am. Please bring them to the Main Office meeting room. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Howard or an Interact officer for clarification.

Are you interested in a career in law?  Do you have a flair for the dramatic?  Mock Trial is seeking new members to participate in the statewide competition.  Please stop by room 157 and talk to Mr. Zeuschner about joining Mock Trial.  We are looking to improve on our quarter finals finish last year and need you!
 
Athletic News:

-The South Windsor Dance Team is hosting their fall tryouts for anyone interested in joining our team this year. Even if you play a fall sport, you can still be a part of the team for the winter season. Tryouts take place on September 6 from 3:15-5:00pm in the Rubber Room.  All necessary sports forms must be completed and turned in in order to tryout. Contact Coach Foley or any dance team member with questions. 

-South Windsor girls’ field hockey defeated Mercy in its preseason scrimmage. It was a tremendous team effort, and the team will come out just as strong in their away game against Newington on Friday, at 3:45pm.

All eligible students should also attend the general body meeting on Wednesday, September 6th at 2:15pm in the cafeteria. Additional selection materials will be provided at that time.

Students who did not receive a locker slip during homeroom or who have problems with their locker should stop by the Main Office to see Mrs. Magistri in between classes before 11am.

The UCONN Early College Experience Courses for this year are Latin IV, Environmental Science, Marine Science and AP Physics 1.  ECE is a program where students take UConn classes while at SWHS, and receive college credit good at UConn as well as most every other college in the country.  College Credit is only received if you sign up correctly.  The LATE Application deadline is September 15th, and the LATE Enrollment deadline is September 29th. There is an extra $25 fee during this time period.  Please see UConn’s website or Mr. Wry for more details.

Are you interested in a career in law?  Do you have a flair for the dramatic?  Mock Trial is seeking new members to participate in the statewide competition.  Please stop by room 157 and talk to Mr. Zeuschner about joining Mock Trial.  We are looking to improve on our quarter finals finish last year and need you!

Athletic News:

The South Windsor Dance Team is hosting their fall tryouts for anyone interested in joining our team this year. Even if you play a fall sport, you can still be a part of the team for the winter season. Just attend tryouts on September 6th from 3:15-5:00pm in the Rubber Room and have all necessary sports forms completed and turned in in order to tryout. Contact Coach Foley or any dance team member with questions.
