Homecoming Dance tickets are now being sold on-line through Ticketleap.com - simply search for "South Windsor".   Sales will end Wednesday at 3:00pm or sooner if sold out. Tickets are $10 each and you must bring the digital ticket along with an ID to the dance with you. This is a link for direct access to purchasing.
 
Don’t forget to wear college apparel to school on Wednesday in preparation of the upcoming College Fair!
 
Attention Bobcat bowling Club members…tomorrow is the first club outing. A friendly reminder…anyone who needs transportation should get a bus pass at the Main Office on the side doors.  Please see Mr. Gray in Room 168 if you have any questions or concerns.

Attention skiers and boarders! This year we will be running 5 weekly trips to Ski Sundown on Thursday nights as well as a weekend trip to Jay Peak. Please stop by Room 234C or 254 to pick up your permission slips. Trips will be filled on a first come, first serve basis, so be sure to get your forms and payment in quickly to secure a spot. 
 
Bowling Club forms with payment must be turned in today for those interested in participating.  Please see Mr. Gray in Room 168 for additional details.
 
Any eligible senior who wishes to be considered for admission to Rho Kappa, National Social Studies Honor Society, should pick up a form today in the Social Studies Department.

Athletic News:
-The girls’ volleyball team will be selling tickets in the cafe today and tomorrow to their "Dig Pink" match Tuesday, October 17 vs. Ellington. The advanced ticket purchase price is $2 and $4 at the door. Hopefully you will buy a ticket and attend this charity game where the proceeds from ticket, food and raffle prices will be donated to the Sideout Foundation for breast cancer awareness.

Looking for a book to read this weekend?  The South Windsor High School Book Club will meet this Tuesday, October 17 at 2:05pm in Room 100 to discuss the book The Great Train Robbery by Michael Crichton. Read it this weekend, and join us on Tuesday! New members are welcome.

Students interested in a career as a technology education teacher can participate in the Technology Education High School Information Day on the campus of Central Connecticut State University. The event will be held on Sunday, October 22 from 12:00pm -2:00pm and will feature activities that sample the classroom, lab, and extracurricular activities that are part of the program. Campus tours, parent programming and the opportunity to speak undergraduates will also be available.  See your school counselor for an invitation to attend!

Bentley University is holding Falcon Diversity Day tomorrow, October 14 from 9:00am – 3:00pm. The event begins with an Admission/Financial Aid presentation, followed by a campus tour and lunch with current students. Then catch the Bentley Falcon football team take on American International College starting at 1:00pm. Students of color, first-generation students, and their allies are invited to attend the event. See the Bentley website or Mrs. Carty in the Career Center for information on how to register.

The CT Science Center offers two opportunities for teenagers to explore scientific concepts and careers and to serve an advisory role. Teen Science Cafés are free events where teens discuss cutting-edge science and technology with local scientists and engineers, try hands-on activities, and socialize. Topics covered will include water quality, computer science, astronomy, and exercise science. The Teen Advisory Council will be a group of teen leaders that work closely with Science Center staff throughout the school year, serving as representatives of young people and a sounding board for ideas to develop high school programming. Additionally, the Council will take on specific projects, such as planning and promoting teen events, working with staff on new social media efforts, and engaging in targeted community outreach and advocacy. The council application will close on October 15. Monday’s college visits to the Career Center will be from Hofstra University and Bentley University. If you have already signed up to attend, please set yourself a reminder. If you have not signed up yet, but are interested in these schools please sign up in Naviance! Representatives will be here every day next week, so keep checking the complete list in Naviance.

Enfield High School will host the Town of Enfield College Fair on Wednesday, October 25 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm.  Representatives from colleges, universities, and technical schools will be available to talk to students and parents.

Due today! Seniors, go to the Senior Capstone Link off of the SWHS Homepage and fill out the required Google Form for presentations on November 7. Capstone is a graduation requirement.

Athletic News:
-The girls’ volleyball team played well at Hall HS last night winning the freshmen match 2-0, winning JV 2-1, and losing a close one for varsity 3-1. The team will travel to Enfield tonight.

-The girls’ volleyball team will be selling tickets in the cafe today, Monday and Tuesday to their "Dig Pink" match next Tuesday, October 17 vs. Ellington. Other outstanding performers included Sarah Mulcahy, Sarah Sartoris, and Erin Garvey. The Lady Bobcats take Glastonbury today at Star Hill!

In yesterday's Math Team meet at Bristol Eastern High School, South Windsor was A-MA-ZING!  In one of the best performances ever by a team in a Capitol Area Math League Meet, the Bobcats scored 105 out of a possible 108 points, winning the meet with over 20 teams competing.  The A-Team performance included perfect meets by seniors Carter Cobb and Hannah Leibowitz, junior Jason Rickenbacher, and sophomore Neal Shah, and a great first meet by freshman Keshav Ramesh.  Perfect meets were also turned in by B-Team seniors Thomas Strelecky, Tyler Branscombe, and Kevin Liu.

Hello Relayers! The SWHS Bobcats Relay For Life Club will be back in action Monday, October 16 in Room 143.  We are welcoming new and old members to attend this informational meeting about the club and what we will be doing throughout the year!  If you are unable to attend this meeting please contact Mrs. Fraiser in Room 143!  Thank you!

We will finish out this week’s college visits with Syracuse University and Castleton University on Friday.  Please continue to sign up in Naviance to attend these visits.  As a reminder, seniors who need help with their college essays can come to the Career Center for editing assistance.

Applications are now available in the High School Counseling Office if you are interested.  You will be matched with a middle school student, assisting them with their homework, studying for exams, and working on projects for about 2 hours a week. Transportation is provided.

The next Gardening Club meeting will be held tomorrow after school in room 234C. New members welcome!

Although we run on a special schedule tomorrow, there are still 3 colleges who making visits to the Career Center for interested students.  Rollins College will be here at 9:30am and RIT will visit at 10:30am for any seniors who wish to come in early and meet.  If you sign up to attend, PLEASE make sure you set a reminder for yourself tonight!  Lycoming College will be here later in the day at 12:30pm.

The admissions staffs from Bowdoin College and Davidson College are teaming up for an Information Night on Tuesday, October 24th from 7:00pm – 8:00pm at the Hartford Marriott Farmington.  A poster advertising the event is hanging in the Career Center.

The Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Organization (HOBY) is a nationally recognized group dedicated to developing leaders through national conferences and training.  Any sophomore interested in applying to attend the HOBY Leadership Seminar taking place in the spring are invited to see Mr. Wry in School Counseling for either an application or more details.

-The Lady Bobcats swim team beat East Hartford Friday night to improve their record to 5-1. Senior captains Chrissy Jones and Liz Savidge were double event winners. Jones took the 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke while Savidge took the diving event and the 100 yard butterfly. Other outstanding performers included Megha Rao, Emma Soloperto, and Sydney Ruschmeier. The ladies take Conard, Hall, and East Catholic in a quad meet this afternoon.

Election posters may be picked up in the Main Office by 4:00pm at the end of today! After that time, they will be discarded.

Seniors – take advantage of the long weekend to work on your Common App (or other college applications) and your essay!!  Remember to stop into the Career Center if you need assistance. Tuesday’s college visits will be Boston College, Western New England University and Brandeis University. Please sign up in Naviance if you would like to meet with any of these schools.

For any student looking to fulfill a community service requirement or get involved with the South Windsor Business Expo, student volunteers are needed to help with the Business Expo to be held at Nomad’s on this Saturday, October 7.  Student volunteers are needed the night before, October 6 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm to help vendors in setting up their booths and on Saturday from 9:00pm to 4:00pm to direct both vendors and visitors to the fair as well as hand out give-away bags, etc.  The Expo welcomes students who could work a shift of a couple of hours or the entire day on Saturday.  This would be a wonderful opportunity to have students see how businesses market their business to the public.  Volunteers could call the Chamber of Commerce directly at 860-644-9442 or, Cindi Yakoubian, at Ellsworth at 860-291-1256.

-Boys’ varsity soccer had an exciting game versus Manchester on Wednesday.  With a minute and eleven seconds left in OT, Jared Caroline headed home the game winner on a pass from Mitchell Lyons to keep the Bobcats at the top of their division. They play their next game this Friday at 6:00pm in Rocky Hill. 

-The girls' varsity soccer team will play their Pink Out Game for Breast Cancer Awareness today at 3:45pm at home.  Please come out and support the team and this important cause. 

-Girls’ volleyball plays Glastonbury today at home.  Freshmen and JV play at 4:00pm and varsity starts at 5:00pm. Hope to see you there!

Homecoming Planning Committee will meet in Room 257 at 2:10pm today.

The Career Center will wrap up this week’s college visits with Colby-Sawyer College, Sacred Heart University and Juniata College on Friday. Colleges continue to book visits with us so check Naviance daily and sign up for schools that interest you. Students attending the Boston University visit at 12:30pm today should report to the Auditorium. This visit will NOT take place in the Career Center.

The Envirothon Team will be meeting today after school in Room 206.  This team studies subject such as wildlife, forestry, aquatic organisms, and soils.  Come to room 206 after school today to learn about this unique competition team.  Space is limited.  See Mrs. Eitel or Mrs. Davies with any questions.

Fashion Club meets today after school in Room 7 until 3:00pm. We will plan for our painted shoe project and other new business. If you are interested in joining but couldn't make the first meeting, new members are welcome. 

The Robotics Team will meet tonight in Room 12 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. This meeting will kick off the new season for Bobcat Robotics.  All students who are interested in being a part of the team please attend.

-The girls’ volleyball team played away at Bloomfield last night. The freshmen team lost a close one 2-1, JV won 2-0, and varsity won 3-0. The team will be home tomorrow night vs. Glastonbury, Hope to see you there!  Also, girls on the volleyball team need to note the practice times for today. The freshmen team will practice from 2:30pm - 4:00pm and JV and Varsity will be from 3:00pm – 5:00pm. Any questions, see Coach Holt.

Fashion Club's second meeting will be tomorrow after school in Room 7 until 3:00pm. At this meeting we will plan for our painted shoe project and other new business. If you are interested in joining but couldn't make the first meeting, new members are welcome. Also, if you think painting on a pair of sneakers sounds like fun, come to the meeting tomorrow to see how you can get started! 

The Robotics team will meet Thursday night in Room 12 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. This meeting will kick off the new season for Bobcat Robotics.  All students who are interested in being a part of the team please attend.

Tomorrow is a busy day in the Career Center with the following colleges making visits: Mass College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, University of Bridgeport, Binghamton University, and Boston University. Please sign up in Naviance if you plan to attend.  Also, seniors who need any help with their Common App, college essay, or any part of the college application process are encouraged to see Mrs. Carty or make an appointment to meet with her.

Athletic News:
-The Lady Bobcat swim team took a big victory over East Catholic last night, 99-88. Alanna Mawhinney and Kellie Sartoris were double event winners, and outstanding performances were had by Emma Hapkiewicz, Sarah Sartoris, Chrissy Jones, and Crystal Arn-Hetrich. The girls won 9 out of 11 events and overall had a great meet. Nice job, ladies!

South Windsor for the Kids will be raising money for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center at the field hockey game this Tuesday at 3:45pm and at a local fast food restaurant on Sullivan Ave from 5:00-8:00pm this Thursday. Please stop by and support!

Join the Science Fiction/Fantasy Club for our first meeting after school today. Join us for snacks and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” in Room 127 from 2:00-5:00pm. 

The Teen Center will be closed on Thursday, October 5 and Monday, October 9.

Tomorrow the Career Center will host visits from Eastern Connecticut State University and University of Rhode Island.  Due to the number of students expected to visit with Eastern, please go to the Media Center Seminar Room for this visit. Wednesday's visits will be Yale University and University of Southern California. Please sign up in Naviance and remember to attend these visits!

Five selective schools will collaborate on a series of information sessions throughout New England next week. Colleges and Universities include Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Rice, and University of Chicago. Programs will take place in Providence on Monday, October 2 and Worcester on Tuesday, October 3. Rockville High School is holding its Tri-Town College Fair Thursday night from 6:30-8:00pm. Approximately 90 colleges are expected to attend.

Attention art and design students! National Portfolio Days are scheduled throughout the fall across the country for students wishing to pursue careers in the visual arts. Hartford's National Portfolio Day is October 21. A poster with complete dates and locations is hanging in the Career Center. Students may also visit portfolioday.net

Konnichiwa. This Thursday, October 5 is the first meeting of the Japanese Club in Room 230 right after school. Learn some Japanese and watch anime. Japanese food will be served!

SADD will be holding a meeting on Wednesday, October 4 at 7:00am in the back of the Media Center.  All are welcome.

This year, if you're interested in working on TECH CREW for the fall musical, "Annie," or for any of the other shows, please come to Room 144, Mrs. White's room, for a short informational meeting tomorrow directly after school. Bring a friend; there'll be snacks. If you can't make it, pop into Mrs. White's room during the school day next week.

Sophomores- “HOBY”……the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Organization is a nationally recognized group dedicated to developing leaders through national conferences and training.  Any sophomore interested in applying to attend the Hugh O’Brien Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar taking place in the Spring are invited to see Mr. Wry in School Counseling for either an application or more details.
