Interested in joining the Spanish Club? Come to our first meeting tomorrow, November 1 at 2:15 pm in room 227 for a Dia de los muertos themed celebration. There will be food, games, prizes, and we will decorate 'calaveras' (sugar skulls). Please bring $5 to Miss Griswold in room 227 if you are interested in participating to secure a sugar skull, but you may pay the day of the meeting too. Jack Perry and Joey Hence are hosting a Handball Tourney for their Capstone Project on Friday, November 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the gym. Teams consist of 7 players. Each team member must sign up by November 7 by filling out the google form located on the google classroom page for your designated class. Entry fee is at least one non-perishable food item per team member. There will be a maximum of 50 participants, so sign up now to reserve your spot.

Art Club will have a meeting this Thursday, November 1 from 2:00 to 3:45 pm in room 7.  Bring some of your artwork or sketchbook drawings and come prepared to be creative. New and returning members are welcome.

Today’s visit to the Career Center is SUNY Albany at 11:45 am. Tomorrow we will have Bay State College and University of New Haven. Sign up in Naviance if you would like to attend.

Student Council will be having a meeting for all representatives on Thursday, November 1 in room 163 at 2:10 pm. We will be discussing goals for the next few months. New members welcome.

Athletic News.
Monday, Bobcats Boys Soccer defeated East Catholic 7-0. Dan Monteserin had two goals. Matt Dion, Jay Fournier, Anthony Dominguez, Mitchell Lyons and Israel de Oliviera also scored. Ben Schulman recorded two assists. Hunter Pasqualini and Jake Waterhouse earned the shutout. Wednesday, the boys have a chance to win the division if they beat East Hartford. The game is at 3:30 pm on the grass field. Please come out and support the boys!

All members of the Girls JV and Freshman Volleyball teams will have personal meetings with their coach and return uniforms on Thursday, November 1 from approximately 2:15 - 3:15 pm in the gym. If you have a question or conflict, contact your Coach.

If so, come to the first informational meeting for the Relay For Life team after school on Wednesday, October 31. The meeting will be held in room 145. If you cannot attend, but are interested in joining our team, please talk to Ms. Lyons.

Today is a pretty full day of visits in the Career Center. The following schools will be here – Baruch College of CUNY at 9:45 am, Western CT State University at 10:45 am, and College of the Holy Cross at 11:45 am. Sign up in Naviance or just come to the Career Center to attend. Monday, we will host Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

Athletic News:
Congratulations to the Varsity Girls’ Volleyball team who made a comeback after losing game 1 to beat East Catholic at Home during senior night. This win ends their season with a 12-8 record going into both the CCC and State Class LL tournaments in the next couple of weeks. Good luck to the team and congrats again to the seniors.

For all students who successfully enrolled in this year’s SWHS-UConn ECE program, please check your email account or your UConn SAS account for your course fee bill. They are due by November 15 to avoid a late fee.

The South Windsor High School Holiday Hoopla event will be on Saturday, November 17 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Any club or group who is interested in having a table at this event please contact Dawna Cavagnaro at [email protected]. Tables are going fast. Vendors book one soon.

Athletic News:

Congratulations to the Girls’ Volleyball team who had a clean sweep last night at Ellington. The JV and Freshman teams both ended their season by winning 2-1, and Varsity won 3-0. The Varsity team will play at 4 pm at home tonight vs. East Catholic and celebrate their 3 seniors for senior night. Hope you will come out and support the team in their last regular season match.

The Varsity Girls' Soccer team got to ten wins last night with a victory over East Hartford. Karly Suppicich had a goal and two assists. Emily Gebhart scored twice and Rachel Drouin had the final tally for the Bobcats. Ella Manning and Julia Sarra anchored the Defense and Chloe Lucia had three saves for the shutout. The girls play next on Friday against Bristol Eastern at home.

The Teen Center Youth Council will be sponsoring an event on Wednesday, October 24 and Thursday, October 25 in recognition of Red Ribbon Week – a National Drug and Alcohol Prevention and Awareness campaign. Stop by the teen center for games, food and giveaways.

If you are looking for a job, the South Windsor Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Holiday Job Fair on Monday, October 29 from 3:00 – 7:00 pm at the South Windsor Public Library. Pre-register with the Chamber to submit your resume to participating employers prior to the event. For more information on this event, see the Programs & Events board in the Career Center.

The Varsity Girls' Soccer team defeated Manchester yesterday by the score of 2-0. Taylor Patitucci opened the scoring off of a feed from Emma Smith and Ella Manning headed in a Karly Suppicich corner to close the scoring. Maria Galley had three saves for the shutout. The team plays tonight at East Hartford.

Varsity field hockey defeated Farmington 10-2 on their senior night.

Sophomores - “HOBY”…the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Organization is a nationally recognized group dedicated to developing leaders through national conferences and training. Any Sophomore interested in applying to attend the Hugh O’Brien Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar taking place in the spring are invited to see Mr. León in School Counseling for either an application or more details.

If you want to make a positive impact on your classmates, join the "PAINT FOR POSITIVITY" club. We are the students putting the quotes over the lockers. We will meet this Wednesday after school in room 121. If you have any questions, see Mrs. Rentz.

To all Seniors: the first presentation date for Capstone is November 6. Remember to be eligible to present you must submit all written work to your adviser by October 23. You must receive a successful score or higher on all written work.  Your adviser will complete a form that you will bring to presentations verifying all work is complete and of passing quality. You must pick this form up from your adviser. Finally, a google form will be posted on Monday October 22 for you to start signing up to present.

Tomorrow’s visits to the Career Center will be from Syracuse University and King’s College. Come speak with representatives from either of these great schools. As always, if you need help with your college application process or need editing for your college essay, speak to Mrs. Carty.

Interact Members, we still have many spots left for volunteers for the Eli Terry Halloween Party this Friday! So far, we have no volunteers for the first shift, so if you are free and looking to volunteer at an event, this is a great opportunity. Keep in mind, this event is during the Homecoming Dance. Therefore, please only sign up if you don't have prior plans. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Howard in room 134.

Athletic News:
Thanks to all the fans who attended last Friday's soccer game versus Berlin. The 17 seniors thank you for being loud and proud. The boys beat Berlin 2-0 behind goals from Nick Gattuso and Dmitri Tenn. Assists came from Anthony Dominguez and Marcus Foote. Jake Waterhouse and Hunter Pasqualini were in net, and Jake Waterhouse made an unbelievable save with about 10 minutes remaining to preserve the shutout for the Bobcats. The boys play Tuesday night at Manchester.

Are you looking for something fun to do tonight? Come to the fourth annual South Windsor High Boys Soccer game at Rye Street. It's Senior Night and we are celebrating our 17 seniors. The Bobcats will take on the CCC South defending champions, the Berlin Redcoats at 6 pm. Admission is free. Please come to this unique town event. Last year we had over 400 people at the game. Let’s beat that number this year.

The Student Council will be hosting a tailgate before the Boys Varsity Soccer game at Rye Street at 5 pm. This is a freshmen only tailgate event. There will be games and free food donated by restaurants around the community. Any freshman who attends will also receive free admission to the game which starts at 6:00 pm.

If you are interested in donating, please fill out the form posted on the grade level google classrooms or sign up during 5th period lunch waves today. Remember, it only takes 15 minutes to save a life.

-The Boys Soccer Team needs your support. Today, they will be playing Berlin under the lights in their fourth annual Rye Street Soccer game at 6 pm. JV will be playing at 4 pm. Help us cheer on the 17 seniors in their Senior Game: Congratulations to Anthony, Brandon, Ben, Chris, Cole, Dan, Hunter, Jake, Jared, Jay, Kyle, Marcus, Matt, Michael, Mitchell, Owen, and Steven.  

-The Varsity Girls' Soccer team defeated Plainville yesterday by a score of one to zero. Caitlin Sauer had the games lone goal while the back line of Ella Manning, Maddie Westfall, Nicole Grasso, and Olivia Hewitt as well as goalkeeper Maria Galley preserved the shutout. The Bobcats moved to 8-3-1 on the season and next play Manchester at home on Tuesday. 

-The Girls Volleyball team had a clean sweep last night at Manchester. The JV and freshman teams won 2-0 and Varsity won 3-0. The team will be home next Monday October 22 against East Hartford. Good luck to the team and we hope you'll come out and support your fellow Bobcats.

Do you enjoy writing your own Science Fiction or Fantasy stories? Science Fiction/Fantasy club will meet today, October 18 in room 127. We will have a writer's workshop where you have time to write and share your work. New and returning members are welcome.

The first session of the Jump Start Tutoring Program will start soon. Please pick up an application from the Counseling office and return it by Friday, October 19. This is a great opportunity to make a difference in our community so get your application today.

There will be an FBLA meeting in room 122 this afternoon, October 18 at 2:00 pm.

South Windsor For The Kids club is having their second meeting today, October 18 right after school in the Cafeteria.

The South Windsor High School Holiday Hoopla event will be on Saturday, November 17, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Any club or group who is interested in having a table at this event please contact Dawna Cavagnaro at [email protected]. Tables are going fast. Vendors book one soon.

Fashion Club will have its first meeting this Thursday after school until 3:00 pm in room 121. We will be designing baseball caps for our first project. You can paint, draw with fabric markers, or add embellishments. New members are welcome to join us for this and more fun projects throughout the year

The Career Center will return to a full schedule of college visits tomorrow, finishing off the week with Fairfield University, RPI, The University of Glasgow - here from Scotland and Union College. These are all great opportunities. Check Naviance for times and come down to the Career Center to check them out.

If you are a student that is strongly involved in volunteering and community service and would like to be considered for the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, see Mrs. Carty in the Career Center for details on how you can apply. Applications are due by November 6. Prizes include a $1,000 award and an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. with the potential for even more awards.

There will be a skill building Anti-Stress Club meeting today after school in the gym. We’re playing dodgeball.

This Friday, October 19 at 5:00 pm, the Student Council will be hosting a tailgate before the boys’ varsity soccer game at Rye Street. This is a freshmen only tailgate event. There will be games and free food donated by restaurants around the community. Any freshman who attends will also receive free admission to the game which starts at 6:00 pm. Please come and support!

Want to learn to write your name in Japanese? Watch Anime, learn Japanese and eat sushi ? We will do this at the Japanese Club on Tuesday, October 23, in room 230 right after school. Please contact Mr. Mabasa if you are interested, so enough sushi can be ordered.

Athletic News:
After last Friday's loss to Farmington, the Boys Soccer team rebounded well with their 10th shutout of the season vs Enfield. Scoring goals were Matt Dion, Mitch Lyons, Cole Cassettari and Dan Monteserin. Assists came from Chris Allevo, Matt Dion, Mitch Lyons and Cole Cassettari. Hunter Pasqualini and Jake Waterhouse again did not let a ball past them. The Bobcats are now 10-2 on the season with 4 regular season games to play.

The Girls Varsity volleyball team has turned around a tough start to the season to win 4 straight matches. Two wins of note was the one vs. Enfield last Friday night for their Dig pink charity game winning 3-0, and earning over $2,100 for the Sideout Foundation for Breast cancer. The other was on Monday defeating a tough Maloney team 3-2. The team will travel to Manchester today. Good luck to the team, and we hope to see you there.
