College visits continue this week.  Please be sure to attend visits that you have signed up for in Naviance! The College of the Holy Cross will be here today after school at 2:00pm.

Attention Juniors and Seniors: It Takes One is an overnight program about distracted driving and making good decisions held here at the school on the night of November 16. The sign up deadline has been extended to tomorrow. Permission forms can be found on Google classroom or in Ms. Flachsbart's room. Please bring your permission slip forms to Ms. Flachsbart in Room 129 or Mrs. Howard in room 134. Don't miss out on this life-changing opportunity!

Attention Skiers and Boarders: The permission slips and payment for Ski Sundown are due Friday, November 3. Be sure to get your forms in to reserve your spot. Spots are filling up quickly.

Athletic News:

-The freshmen girls’ soccer team had an excellent win against Bristol Eastern last Thursday.  They won 6-0 with goals scored by Jordan Roberts, Grace Martin, Amanda Cole, Jasmine Ramirez, and Anna Armstrong.  Come support the team for their next game against East Catholic at Nevers today. 

-Girls Ice Hockey will hold an informational meeting today at 2:15pm in Room 102.  Come find out more about the South Windsor/East Catholic/Glastonbury Coop Girls Ice Hockey Team. 

-There will be a Girls Basketball Informational Meeting on Thursday 11/2 at 2:10pm in Room 102. Expectations for tryouts and other important information will be discussed. Any returning team members or interested girls should plan to attend.  

-Attention winter athletes: you need to sign up online for a winter sport by November 15 in order to be eligible for the first day of tryouts. If you tried out for or played a fall sport, stop by the Main Office to move your sports forms forward, and drop off your check for $125.00. For questions, see Mrs. Jelly in the Main Office. 

-All returning wrestlers or any students interested in joining the wrestling team should attend an informative meeting today at 3:30pm in the weight room.

-The Girls’ Varsity Volleyball match in the first round of the CCC tournament was postponed from last night to today. The team will play Bristol Central at Home today at 3:30pm. There is an admission charge for both adults and students, and there will be a concession stand to purchase snacks, so please plan accordingly. Hope to see you there!

-The current varsity girls’ volleyball team must report to the gym by 2:20pm today for tonight's match in home uniform ready to set up the gym. The rest of the team not playing, along with managers should report to the gym by 2:45pm and contact Coach Holt via email or in person today if they are planning to volunteer to work the match. She is in need of several workers for tonight. Any questions see Coach Holt.

-Field hockey defeated Avon 1-0 in an overtime win on Friday. Come out and support the team Wednesday against Glastonbury for Senior Night at home.

The college season is winding down, but there are still a number of colleges visiting in the next couple of weeks. On Monday, students can learn about Utica College, Emmanuel College and the United States Air Force. Representatives will be in the Career Center throughout the day. Please sign up in Naviance and be sure to attend if you have signed up!

A reminder to any students taking AP courses, your exam fees are due to the School Counseling Office by Tuesday, October 31. Letters were sent home with a registration form at the bottom.  If you no longer have a copy of the letter, you can get one in the School Counseling Office. Please note: if you are enrolled in Physics C or Economics – you will take 2 exams for each of those courses. Please make sure you include payment for both exams. 

Have you ever wanted to try yoga? Yoga Club will meet on Monday at 2:15pm in the Chorus Room to practice yoga. All experience levels are welcome! Bring a friend and give it a try.  For more information contact Ms. Lane in Room 6 or by email.

Attention sophomores! Today is the FINAL day to show your class pride by ordering a sophomore class T-shirt! Forms and money will be collected during all lunch waves.  

Buy your Jack O Grams during all lunch waves today…$2.00 each or 2 for $3.00 or 3 for $5.00. Support FBLA!

Monday is the FBLA Fall Leadership Conference Field Trip. The bus will leave at 6:45am. Be at the front of the school by that time. Wear business casual attire. No sneakers and no jeans. Breakfast and lunch will be served. 

The all new Unity Club will hold its first meeting will be on Monday, October 30 after school in the School Counseling Career Center. Join us to learn about different cultures around the world!

Athletic News:
-The Boys Soccer Team plays Manchester under the lights tonight at 6:00pm for their third annual Rye Street Soccer game along with their Senior Night celebration.  JV starts at 4:00pm. We will be asking for a $2 donation at the entrance to go towards a piece of soccer equipment the team would like to purchase.  There will be a small concession stand, and the Booster Club will be selling various items. We hope to see you there! 
 
-Congratulations to the girls’ volleyball team for ending their regular season with a sweep of East Catholic last night. The freshman team won 2-1, JV 2-0, and varsity 3-0. The varsity team will play in the CCC tournament next Monday at the site and opponent to be announced. Congrats again on a great season, and thanks to all who supported the team this fall!

A reminder to students attending today’s UConn visit: Please report to the Seminar Room at noon if you are planning to attend. This visit will NOT take place in the Career Center. On Friday morning, Quinnipiac University will visit South Windsor High School. This visit will also take place in the Seminar Room. The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising has rescheduled their visit from Monday and will come to the Career Center tomorrow at 12:30pm. Any students who had planned to meet with FIDM should sign up in Naviance again.

Mrs. Barrett's Capstone group will meet this Thursday, October 26, at 2:00pm in Room 126 so that you can hand in your Mentor Logs and Research Logs. This way we can make sure you are all ready for November 7! See you there!

Are you interested in learning about different cultures around the world? Come join the all new Unity Club! The first meeting will be on Monday, October 30 after school at the School Counseling Career Center.

Activities for the day include taking the yearbook picture, working on our painted shoe project, and discussing the upcoming field trip to the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Please make every effort to be there. New members are still welcome!

All students interested in doing Tech for the fall musical, "Annie," should report to Mrs. White at rehearsal in the auditorium tomorrow at 2:15pm. We will start assigning jobs and understanding stage hand responsibilities. 

Any student who would like to be involved in our school's “It Takes One” program should bring in the permission slip and money by tomorrow. Please consider taking part in the powerful event on distracted driving and making good choices. Permission slips can be brought to Ms. Flachsbart in Room 129. 

Final reminder…RHO KAPPA, national Social Studies Honor Society applications must be submitted by Monday, October 30. The RHO KAPPA induction night has been changed to November 30.

Athletic News:
-Boys’ lacrosse will meet today after school at 2:15pm in Room 102 for returning and interested players to discuss Winter League. Any questions can be directed to Quinn Hannigan and Tyler Osit.

-Field hockey defeated Hall High 3-0. The team moves to 11-1-1. They will take on Avon this week away. Please come out November 1 for their home game against Glastonbury and to celebrate our seniors. 

-The Girls Volleyball team would like to say a big Thank You to all who donated to their Side-out Foundation Dig Pink charity match vs. Ellington last week. The team raised $1,700 meeting this year's goal and earning about $200 more than last year. Congratulations to the team and parent volunteers, we are very proud of this accomplishment.

The Strategy Club will meet today in the Seminar Room from 2:00pm - 3:30pm.  Several Halloween themed board games will be featured at this week's meeting.  Stop in and see us anytime.

A reminder to interested students – Roger Williams University will be here after school today at 2:00pm in the Career Center.  Tomorrow is a very busy day with visits from University of New England, The Culinary Institute of America, Penn State, and Connecticut College. Please sign up in Naviance if you are interested in meeting with these representatives and arrive on time for your visit!

The Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Organization (HOBY) is a nationally recognized group dedicated to developing leaders through national conferences and training. Any sophomore interested in applying to attend the HOBY Leadership Seminar taking place in the spring are invited to see Mr. Wry in School Counseling for either an application or more details.

Wednesday is National Unity Day. Join SADD to show your support by wearing Orange tomorrow. Take a stand against bullying and promote kindness and inclusion!

The freshmen team will host Ellington tomorrow with a 4:00pm start, and the whole team will travel to East Catholic to wrap up their regular season matches. Hope to see you there! A reminder to the girls on the volleyball team…all players will have practice from 3:30-5:00pm today. Please attend study hall after school then report to the gym ready for practice by 3:20pm. Students attending the Jets field trip to MetLife Stadium tomorrow must arrive to school and be prepared to load the bus to leave at 5:00am sharp!  Please remember to wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for a walking tour at the Stadium.  You will also want to bring some extra money for our snack and lunch stops.

There will be a meeting for all Student Council representatives today in Room 163 after school. All are welcome!

To celebrate Red Ribbon Week, Drug & Alcohol Prevention and Awareness, the Teen Center Youth Council is hosting tournaments, games and giveaways at the Teen Center on late bus days this week – Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  These are free events, all are welcome!

Today's Mock Trial meeting for attorneys has been cancelled.  Lawyers are asked to see Mr. Zeuschner in Room 157 tomorrow.

There will be a meeting for all Student Council representatives on October 23 in Room 163 after school.  Your leadership team will be leading the meeting.  We will be discussing goals of Student Council for the year. All are welcome!

Enfield High School will host the Town of Enfield College Fair on Wednesday, October 25 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm. Representatives from colleges, universities, and technical schools will be available to talk to students and parents.

Union Baptist Church in Hartford is organizing the Historically Black Colleges & Universities College Tour for spring 2018. The program tours 7-10 colleges from Maryland to Florida from April 4 -13. Information sessions and workshops prepare students for the experience. The first information session is held on October 24 at 7:00pm. Attention students 17 and older, please sign up to donate blood on Wednesday, November 1 during school. Over 30 million blood transfusions are needed in the US each year, and your donation can help to save 3 lives! Signups will he held during lunch all of next week. If you have questions please see Mrs. Belval in Room 204.

Athletic News:
-The girls' varsity soccer team defeated Plainville yesterday by a score of two to zero. Olivia Besthoff scored a first half goal from a Jaylene Ferrabelo cross and Karly Suppicich potted a Lindsay Fishman feed in the second to lead the Bobcats. Payton Garcia led the defense and Jianna Mitchell earned the shutout.
  
-The girls’ volleyball team ran into a tough opponent in East Hartford last night. The freshmen team lost 2 to 0, JV won 2 to 1, and varsity won 3 to 0. The team will host Manchester on Monday for their last regular season match which is senior night. We hope you can come out and support your fellow bobcats.

Reminder: In order to be able to attend the homecoming dance this Friday, you must be in school all day. Anyone who will be in school for less than the full day should seek authorization from their associate principal.

Athletic News:
-Congratulations to the Girls Cross Country Team! They won the CCC North Colonial Division Title for the third consecutive year. The team was led by Isabelle Erikson who finished second, Lindsey Hurd who finished fourth, and Marlena Klein who finished sixth. Sonali Chokshi, Sara Wills, Jessica Polito, Armina Sarin, and Molly Cole provided the solid backup that guaranteed the win. Coach Bowman is proud of the performances of not just the varsity girls but of the entire team – varsity and JV- which produced personal bests in the meet. Thanks for honoring Mrs. B, Mrs. B’s Team!

-The Lady Bobcats swim team had their senior night Tuesday against Manchester. Senior captains Liz Savidge and Chrissy Jones won their events, the 100 yard breast stroke and the 100 yard butterfly. Senior captain, Sydney Ruschmeier, had an outstanding performance in the 200 yard individual medley. Other event winners included Sarah Sartoris and Anna Garvey. The seniors want to thank the juniors who did an awesome job putting together this year’s senior meet. The girls have their last dual meet of the season next Tuesday at EO Smith.

Homecoming Dance tickets are now being sold on-line through Ticketleap.com - simply search for "South Windsor".  Sales end today at 3:00pm or sooner if sold out. Tickets are $10 each and you must bring the digital ticket along with an ID to the dance with you. 

Are you thinking about submitting an application for the 1st session of the Jump Start tutoring program? If yes, then NOW is the time! Forms should be returned to the high school counseling office by this Friday, October 20. 
 
Tomorrow is South Windsor High School’s college fair! Over 130 colleges, technical schools, and military recruiters will be here to speak to students about your futures. Emerson College will return to the Career Center at 2:00pm to meet with interested students. This week’s college visits will conclude on Friday afternoon with Lincoln College of New England.

Attention seniors: if you have not done this already, go to the Capstone Experience Webpage and fill in the Google form for presentations on November 7. The Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Organization (HOBY) is a nationally recognized group dedicated to developing leaders through national conferences and training.  Any sophomore interested in applying to attend the HOBY Leadership Seminar taking place in the spring are invited to see Mr. Wry in School Counseling for either an application or more details.

Athletic News:

-Field Hockey defeated Conard 1-0. They improve to 9-1-1 and will play Farmington away on Monday. 

-All students interested in trying out for the baseball team should attend an informational meeting after school Tuesday, October 24 in Room 161.  Any questions, please see Mr. D'Amato. 

-Congratulations to the Girls Volleyball team for their success at last night's Dig Pink match at Home vs. Ellington last night. The JV team won 2-0, and Varsity won 3-1. The players, parents, and coaches want to say to "Thank You" to all who attended and supported both the team during the match and by making purchases with the proceeds going towards our charity, the "Sideout Foundation”. Again, the whole night was a great success. Congrats!

Don’t forget to wear college apparel to school tomorrow in preparation of the upcoming College Fair! Why not combine a college sweatshirt with comfy pajama bottoms for Spirit Week??!!

Homework Clubs meets every Monday and Wednesday after school in Room 126. If you need some help studying or help with your homework - come on down! We have tutors available to help with whatever you need! See Mrs. Barrett or Miss Cruz if you have any questions!

A representative from the United States Army will be in the Career Center at 10:30pm this morning.  Tomorrow, Virginia Tech and Bay Path University will be here.  If you have signed up to attend, please remember to report to the Career Center on time!

Union Baptist Church in Hartford is organizing the Historically Black Colleges & Universities College Tour for spring 2018.  The program tours 7-10 colleges from Maryland to Florida from April 4 -13. Information sessions and workshops prepare students for the experience.  The first information session is held on October 24 at 7:00pm. Athletic News:
-The girls’ volleyball team will be hosting their "Dig Pink" match today vs. Ellington. Tickets are $2 in advance and $4 at the door. Come support this charity game where the proceeds from ticket, food and raffle prices will be donated to the Sideout Foundation for breast cancer awareness. 

-The boys’ soccer team got back on its winning ways with an 8-0 win over Enfield. Dan Monteserin and Mitchell Lyons had two goals apiece and Matt Dion, Gabe Galley, Anthony Dominguez and Cole Cassettari also scored for the Bobcats. Nick Gattuso, Mike Tortora, Marcus Foote, Matt Dion, Anthony Dominguez and Gabe Galley all recorded assists. Jake Waterhouse and Hunter Pasqualini had three saves to earn the shutout. The boys play Berlin on Thursday at 6:00pm.
