The Chamber Orchestra will perform this Saturday, March 2 at 3:00 pm in the Wood Memorial Library. A ten dollar donation supports both the Library and our April trip to Festivals of Music in Boston. Come join us!

The Anti-Stress Club is sponsoring a ping pong tournament on Thursday, March 7 for testicular cancer awareness. Entrance fee is $5 and the winner will get a special prize.

Attention American Sign Language students: We are happy to announce that next year we will be piloting American Sign Language II. Please see Mrs. Eddy or Ms. Stoj for a recommendation and to sign up for the class for next year.

The Strategy Club will meet TODAY, Thursday, February 28 after school in room 7.  We're looking for people interested in playing board games and card games. 

Bobcat Robotics will host a Pasta Dinner and Teacup Raffle on Saturday, March 2 at 5:00 pm in the Cafeteria. Prizes include tickets to local attractions, restaurant gift cards, and so much more! Come support Bobcat Robotics in our mission to win a third world championship. Tickets will be $5 if you buy ahead of time and will be sold during lunch waves.

Seniors: The Dollars for Scholars portal will close on March 15. While many of you have started applications, a large portion of you have not reached full applicant status. Come to School Counseling or the Career Center if you need help with your application. Don’t forget about the numerous other scholarship opportunities in Naviance. There are a few scholarships due before the end of this month and many more coming up with March deadlines.

The Drug Free Committee is hosting the 6th Annual Volleyball Marathon on Friday, March 1 from 6:00 pm to 1:30 am. There will be food, drinks and raffle prizes.

The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) will hold an information session this Saturday, March 2 at 10 am at the Goodwin Hotel in Hartford. Students interested in creative careers in art or design will meet one-on-one with an admission representative, hear about student life at SCAD and discover how to launch a career in the creative industry. Students interested in a career in Pharmacy have an excellent opportunity to attend a FREE summer week at Western New England University from June 24-28.  The program will close to applicants once 50 students have registered so act quickly.  Visit www.wne.edu/pharmcamp for information and to apply.  This program is also listed in the Enrichment Programs section of Naviance.

This is National Teen Dating Violence Prevention Month. Students Against Destructive Decisions reminds you that everyone deserves a safe and healthy relationship that is based on respect, equality and honesty. Please remember to talk with a trusted adult if you or someone you know needs help. Love has many definitions, but abuse isn't one of them.

This prestigious academy meets monthly throughout the 2019-20 school year and its purpose is to train students towards becoming more effective leaders through various pieces of training and exercises. In addition, there is a 7-day camping trip in Maine this June for those accepted. If interested in applying or getting more details, please visit Mr. Leon in School Counseling.

Athletic News:

All athletes interested in Spring Sports must complete the athletic registration online and submit their physician’s statement and pay for play fee to the main office by Monday, March 4 in order to participate on the first day of tryouts on Saturday, March 16. Athletes that competed this fall or winter in a sport who are interested in a spring sport should notify office secretary Ms. Zaino or Ms. Mulcahy of this intent, so your paperwork can be rolled over to that spring sport. These athletes must also submit their physician’s statement and pay for play fee to the main office by March 4.

The Japanese Club will meet TODAY, Wednesday, February 27 after school in room 230. Learn some Japanese, watch anime and eat some Japanese food.

There will be a brief meeting TODAY, Wednesday, February 27 from 2:05-2:20 pm in room 233 for all students involved in the Travel Club Fundraising Group. Please see Sra. Ruiz if you can't attend.

February 26 at 2:10 pm in the cafe will be the last day for winter athletes to take the athletic survey.  Any winter athlete who has not already taken this survey is encouraged to attend. Athletes should bring a smart phone or their chrome book to take this survey which takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Congratulations to Cooper Nodden on winning the 170 pound State Open Championship on Saturday afternoon. He will now represent Bobcat Nation in the New England Championships in Providence.

A representative from a gap year program called Rustic Pathways will be visiting the Career Center today at 10:00 am. If you have thought about taking time after high school to travel and pursue meaningful community service before moving forward with your other educational or career goals, this is a great opportunity to learn about how one of these programs works. If you are interested in attending, please check in with your 4th period teacher and then come to the Career Center with a pass signed.

Current 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students are invited to attend and explore their interests in Bristol Tech’s career and technical programs including Precision Machining, Culinary Arts, Electronics, Automotive, HVAC and Welding. There is a flyer in the Career Center or for more information go to bristol.cttech.org.

Did you know that we have two different AP computer science classes? AP Mobile CSP is a super fun class where you program mobile apps, learn about big data and the internet, discuss cryptography and cyber security, and explore the ways technology influences our culture and economy. AP Computer Science is an introduction java programming, algorithms, and data for students with a B- in an honors math class or AP Mobile CSP. See Mrs. Lang in room 9 for more details.

Athletic News:

Any girls interested in joining Outdoor Track and Field, especially those new to the sport, should attend a short informational meeting on either Wednesday, February 20 or Monday, February 25 after school in room 127.  See Coach McCullough in room 127 if you have any questions.

Anyone interested in trying out for softball this year, there will be an informational meeting Thursday, February 21 right after school in room 159. 

Athletic Surveys will be held on Wednesday, Feburary 20 at 2:10 pm in the Cafe for all boys & girls basketball players, dance team members, cheerleaders and gymnasts. Also any boys & girls indoor track members, wrestlers or boys swimmers who did not already take the survey are encouraged to attend on Wednesday as well. Boys hockey players will take this survey on Friday, February 22 at 2:10 pm in the Cafe. The survey only takes 15-20 minutes and student-athletes should bring their Chromebooks or an iPhone to take the survey from a link that will be provided.

For students in grades 9-11, the PowerSchool Course Selection Portal is open until February 25. Please log into PowerSchool and select your courses for next year. Please see your School Counselor with any questions. 

Student Council is hosting a canned food drive for the basketball game against East Catholic on February 19. Fans that bring in 2 canned food items will get $2 off regular admission. Please support a good cause and come cheer on your Bobcats!

Bobcat Robotics will host a Pasta Dinner and Teacup Raffle on Saturday March 2 at 5:00 pm in the Cafeteria. Prizes include tickets to local attractions, restaurant gift cards, and so much more! Come support Bobcat Robotics in our mission to win a third world championship! Tickets will be $5 if you buy ahead of time and will be sold during lunch waves after break!

The GSA will meet on Wednesday, February 13 at 2:00 pm in room 148. Exciting things are happening - come check it out! Please see Mrs. Stodd Knapp with conflicts or questions. New members are always welcome!

The South Windsor Patriotic Commission Annual Memorial Day Student Essay Contest is underway for 2019. Essay topics and awards are determined by grade level. Students in grades K through 12 may participate in the contest. Entry forms with full details are available in the Career Center. The contest ends on February 28.

Congratulations to the South Windsor Varsity Cheerleading team for taking third place at Windsor Warriors this weekend. Come watch them compete for the Central Connecticut Conference Championship this Saturday, February 15 at Glastonbury High School at 5:00 pm.
