Tonight Rho Kappa will host a Women’s History Month movie marathon in the auditorium.  Come from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm to watch the movies Hidden Figures and League of their Own.  There will be free pizza and food!

The National Association for College Admission Counseling will host a spring college fair on Monday, April 2 and Tuesday, April 3 at the Connecticut Convention Center.  You can register in advance at www.GoToMyNCF.com and a poster advertising the event is hanging outside School Counseling.

Scholarship alert for seniors!  The South Windsor Little League scholarship application is now available.  You can download it from Naviance or pick one up in the Career Center.  It is due April 12.

There is a new scholarship opportunity only for South Windsor High School seniors. The William L. Perry Scholarship will be awarded to students who have exhibited outstanding leadership in multiple arenas, while maintaining a rigorous course load, and strong academic performance.  Applicants must show a record of participation in high commitment activities such as athletics, music or drama, while also being active leaders in service clubs or student government.  Application may be downloaded in Naviance or picked up at the Career Center and will be due by April 26.

These are just a few of the scholarships you will find listed in Naviance with information on how to apply. The Writing Center is now accepting applications for writing tutors for the 2019-2020 school year. This is a great opportunity for any students who like to write and who enjoy helping people. See your English teacher for more information or for an application. Applications are due by April 1.

Anyone who participated in the first or second session of the Bowling Club and wants to be in the group photo for the yearbook, should report to the lobby during homeroom TODAY. Please see Mr. Gray in room 168 if you need a pass or have any questions.

Art Club will be meeting TODAY, Thursday, March 28 from 2:00 pm to 3:45 pm in room 7. New and returning members are welcome, come draw, paint, or create something else.

A representative from the University of Maine will be here Thursday morning, March 28 to meet with students interested in learning more about their school and academic programs. Please sign up in Naviance and see Mrs. Carty for a pass if you are interested in attending.

Let’s be…Bombara Strong. This Thursday, March 28, let’s show our support for Dr. Bombara by wearing Bombara Strong t-shirts (available for purchase in School Counseling, all proceeds go to cancer research), or the color purple to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer. Dr. Bombara has been a school counselor here at SWHS for 18 years and he’s fighting a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Save room for melty Reuben sandwiches and beef pot pie! Your culinary tour of Ireland and the United Kingdom awaits! Bring $5 to Ms. Cliff or Sra. Ruiz to reserve your spot.

Any Senior who has signed up to present their Capstone on Wednesday, March 27 can find their time slots and room numbers posted on Mr. Richard's Capstone Google Classroom and off of the Capstone Website. Any questions or concerns, please see Ms. Walsh and Mr. Richard's in the Social Studies Office period 8.

There will be an FBLA meeting in room 126 today, March 21 at 2:00 pm.

All Seniors who have not presented their Capstone Project, must sign up this week in order to present on Wednesday, March 27. Failure to present your Capstone Project on March 27 could result in loss of Senior Privileges and Activities. To sign up, please go to the Capstone website, located off of the SWHS Homepage and fill out the Google Form. Questions or concerns, stop in to room 163 or Social Studies office to see Mr. Richards or Ms. Walsh.

Juniors interested in applying for State Police Week may get an application from Dr. LaRochelle in the School Counseling Office.

Any student who requested Music Theory, AP Music Theory, or Music Through The Ages for next year should come to the Career Center today, March 21 during Homeroom for a special informational meeting. Please see Mr. Martineau in the music department or Mr. Wry in Guidance with any questions.

The NHS Prom Dress Drive has been extended until March 29. People can bring their gently used prom dresses and accessories to the SWHS main office.

Anyone interested in getting out for a hike? Join the Outing Club on Sunday, March 31 to hike Ragged Mountain. Permission slips can be picked up in room 254 or 234C. Permission slips and payment are due by Friday, March 22. See Ms. Andrews or Mrs. Lynch with any questions.

Boys Tennis Tryouts Will Run Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at Magic Lincer Tennis Club, 404 West Center Street in Manchester from 4:30 - 6:30 pm. Your physical needs to be on file in order for you to tryout. You must bring a racquet and tennis sneakers.

Today is the final day to submit applications for Dollars for Scholars. If you have any final questions, please stop into School Counseling for assistance or to be connected to our local representative. The portal will close at 11:59 pm tonight and there will no more access and no exceptions.

The first day of baseball tryouts will be held Saturday, March 16 at the Rotary Hitting Facility. Freshman will tryout from 9:00 - 10:30 am and JV/Varsity from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Please bring indoor and outdoor gear to tryouts. Any questions, please see Mr. D'Amato.

Girls’ Lacrosse tryouts will be held Saturday, March 16 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm on the turf. Bring outdoor (turf) and indoor attire.

Boys’ Volleyball tryouts will be held this Saturday, March 16 from 8:00 – 11:00 am.

Golf tryouts will begin Monday, March 18 after school from 2:15 - 3:30 pm.  Anyone trying out for the golf team should report to room 168 after school. No equipment will be needed for the first day of tryouts. Please see Coach Gray if you have any questions or concerns.

Mind's Eye is accepting submissions through tomorrow. Submit your original fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or art for an opportunity to be published in our yearly magazine! You can bring your submission to room 129, email Ms. Flachsbart, or contact one of the Mind's Eye members. The top entries in each category will receive a gift card prize.

The representative from South Windsor Dollars for Scholars will be in the Career Center TODAY, Thursday, March 14 starting at 10:30 am. If you need any last minute assistance with your applications or want to verify its status, she is a wonderful resource. No appointment is necessary. Come in when you can during the day. Remember - the application portal closes TOMORROW and there are no exceptions.

The Strategy Club will meet TODAY after school in room 7. New members are always welcome.

Student Council is hosting the 2nd Annual Trivia Night on Friday, March 15 at 6:30 pm in the Cafe! Sign up with teams up to 5 during your lunch waves. Team registration costs $10 total. 1st place will win a $200 gift card to Sakura, 2nd place will win a $100 gift card to Friendly's and 3rd place will win a $50 gift card to Dairy Queen!  Come sign up for the fun!

All students who have been tutors for the Jump Start Program are asked to be in the lobby at 7:10 am this Friday, March 15 for our yearbook photo. Please join us if you have volunteered during any of the sessions this year.

Congratulations to the Bobcat Robotics team, who finished 2nd place at the team's first event in Waterbury this past weekend. Shout out to the drivers, captains, pit crew and scouters who were instrumental in getting the team to the finals! Come see them compete on April 6 and 7 at Hartford Public High School!
