The Italian Club will be cooking pasta among other things after school on Thursday, April 19 from 2:00 pm -4:00 pm.  Please bring $5 to Mrs. Zaccardelli in Room 226 by Wednesday, April 18 if you would like to participate. Space is limited and is first come, first served.

The Writing Center is recruiting current sophomore and junior writing tutors for 2018-2019 school year. If you like to write, like helping others, and feel you'd make a great tutor, we'd love to hear from you. Please see your English teacher for an application which is due Tuesday. If you have any questions, see Ms. Pieratti in Room 146 or Mrs. Howard in Room 134.

This Thursday from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm, the Art Department will have its annual art show at the town library. Come see art work from all the schools and look for your friends' work. 

Attention all South Windsor High School students! The Trivia Night has been rescheduled to Thursday, April 19 from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm in the cafeteria. If you can no longer attend and signed up, please see a Student Council representative to get your team's refund. Cost is $10 per team and limited to 5 students per team. Student Council members will be collecting money from teams signing up through lunch waves throughout the week. There will be over $300 worth of prizes! Categories for trivia will range from sports to pop culture to high school staff and more. Get ready for a fun night!

The Science Fiction/Fantasy Club will meet today after school in Room 127. Join us to watch and discuss The Hunger Games. New members are always welcome.

A representative from Clarkson University will be in the Career Center after school tomorrow at 2:00pm. Please sign up in Naviance and arrive on time if you would like to learn more about Clarkson’s programs.

Athletic News:
-The Girls Track and Field team went against RHAM over April break in a very close meet. First place finishes were had in individual events by Katelyn Macomber, Isabelle Erikson, Shannon Anthony, Sarah Karasik. The 4x800 relay team of Marlena Klein, Lindsay Fishman, Isabelle Erikson and Jordan Roberts and 4X400 relay team of Anna Armstrong, Shannon Anthony, Missy Sullivan, and Elizabeth Martinez also scored first place points. The next girls’ track meet will be at Manchester on April 24.

Juniors, please note...prom ticket sales end TODAY at 2:30pm. All ticket sales are electronic and can be purchased outside school hours using the link provided on the Class of 2019 Google classroom. Prom guest forms must be turned in by this date as well in order to purchase tickets. Tickets will ONLY be sold (for a fee of $105) past the deadline in cases that the administration deems as extreme.  If you have any questions please see Mrs. Hasler or Mrs. Caless.

The Connecticut Congressional Delegation hosts the 2018 Military Service Academy Night on Wednesday, April 25 at 6:00pm at the MG Maurice Rose Armed Forces Reserve Center in Middletown. All interested high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are invited to come learn about our nation’s military academies. An informational flyer is hanging on the Programs & Events board in the Career Center. You can also visit the website of any member of the Connecticut Congressional Delegation to find information about this event.

Six Flags New England is now hiring for summer positions. Visit “sixflagsjobs.com” or check out their flyer in the Career Center.

Student Council is hosting a Trivia Night on April 20 from 6:30pm-8:30pm in the cafeteria. Cost is $10 per team and limited to 5 students per team. Student Council members will be collecting money from teams signing up through lunch waves today.  

Last call…the CT State Board of Education is searching for two new 2018-19 Student Board Members. Any junior interested in applying should look for additional information and the posting in the Career Center. Completed applications must be postmarked on or before April 13 which falls during the April vacation…plan ahead.

NHS is in the process of collecting prom dresses, shoes, and accessories for those that cannot afford to buy them. Tomorrow is the last day to drop them at the lobby of the Community Center across the street from the high school. Short or long dresses are both acceptable; please bring them on hangers. 

Students 17 and older… today is the last day to sign up during lunch waves to donate blood on April 18. If you have questions, please see Mrs. Belval in Room 204.

Join the freshman class fundraiser tonight at your local Italian Ice place from 6:00pm–9:00pm. Hope to see you there.

Athletic News:
-The boys’ golf team won their home opener against RHAM High School by three strokes. The Bobcats posted 177 at Topstone Golf Course lead by match medalist Jared Walter’s 38.

-Girls’ tennis won their first match of the season 6-1 against Rocky Hill. The singles squad swept their lines and an outstanding performance by senior doubles team Kelly Kozon and Payal Shah took a win in a tie break. 

-Girls’ lacrosse took on Berlin High yesterday. Varsity came away with a hard-earned win of 12-10, and JV took the win 6-5. The girls take on Trumbull this Saturday at 10:00am. Come support the team! 

-Boys’ tennis had a decisive win 6-1 at Newington in the first match of the season.  Singles players Brandon Sze, Ronnak Saxena, and Parker Pacekonis won in straight sets and the doubles teams of Sam Kim & Donny Sauer, Jason Ricknbacher & Dan Zhu, and Elijah Wood & Jack Perry also won in straight sets. Neal Shah stepped in at the last minute for an ill player at 4th singles and played a great two set match. Thanks to Neal for being such a team player. The next match is Monday April 16 at home versus Glastonbury at 3:45pm.  Please come out and support the team; we would love to see you there.

Attention Juniors...prom ticket sales end at 2:30pm tomorrow. All ticket sales are electronic and can be purchased using the link provided on the Class of 2019 Google classroom. Applications for the 2018 South Windsor Little League Baseball/Softball Scholarships are available in the Career Center. The Little League will award three $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors from the Class of 2018 who participated in the SW Little league. Deadline for submission is April 20, 2018.

Students that attended the Voya Financial Job Shadow need to see Ms. Cruz today for a Junior Achievement form to complete. Also students attending the Bushnell Job Shadow tomorrow need to see Ms. Cruz for the Junior Achievement form to complete as well, and please report to the lobby at 7:50am on Friday April 6 for the trip. 

Athletic News:
-On Tuesday, girls’ lacrosse took on Newington High School. Despite the downpour, varsity came away with an 18-1 victory and JV took a 10-2 victory.  

-There will be a meeting today in Room 111 at 2:10pm for all returning boys’ basketball players.

-Congratulations to the boys’ volleyball team for another clean sweep win last night at Enfield. The JV team won 2-0 and varsity 3-0. Best of luck to the team tomorrow night when they travel to play out-of-league opponent, Lewis Mills.

Reminder… FBLA will be having a mandatory meeting tomorrow at 2:00 pm in Room 122. 

Athletic Study Hall will be in Room 111 today due to a faculty meeting in the café.

The Freshman Class of 2021 will be having a fundraiser at your local Italian Ice place on Friday, April 6 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. There will be a raffle wheel of prizes. See you there.

As a part of the National Honor Society, we are collecting prom dresses, shoes, and accessories for those that cannot afford to buy them. We will be collecting them at the lobby of the Community Center across the street from the high school until April 7. Short or long dresses are both acceptable, please bring them on hangers. We hope you can help us with our project and help the community. 

Calling all Spray Painters! Report to the Auditorium after school tomorrow to help Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Beebe with set painting for the spring play. Also, it's time for Tech Crew to report to rehearsals starting today for the spring play, The Matchmaker. See Mrs. White in the auditorium after school.

A representative from the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) will be here this morning at 11am in the Career Center. Interested students can attend the meeting and receive materials on the programs available.

The Boys volleyball team swept NFA last night with JV winning 2-0 and Varsity 3-0. The team will travel to Enfield tomorrow night. Good luck to the team and we hope to see you there.

Attention all juniors: tomorrow, Tuesday, April 3, is the required Next Generation Science Standards field test, and you should plan to arrive at school by 7:15am. Please check posters in the Lobby and outside the cafeteria to find out your testing room. Testing will start promptly at 7:25am.

Many scholarships have upcoming deadlines. A great one to focus on this week is the NEACAC scholarship – this is an essay contest and any South Windsor senior planning on attending college is eligible, but essays must be submitted by Friday, April 6. Are you an artist? The Manchester Art Association and the West Hartford Music and Art Club having scholarships with deadlines in the next week. Find these and many more opportunities in Naviance.

Congratulations to the Boys’ Volleyball team for defeating Rockville at Home on Saturday. JV won 2-0 and Varsity won 3-1. The team will be home again today vs. NFA with a 4:30pm JV start, varsity to follow. Hope to see you there cheering on your fellow Bobcats.
