Buses will run their REGULAR routes after the first exam tomorrow, and two buses will stop by at 11:25am for anyone who needs transportation home after a make-up exam.

For any graduating senior or student not returning to South Windsor High School in the fall, Chromebooks are to be returned today from 9:30am – 12:00pm in the Media Center Seminar Room.  

Seniors planning to attend one of the local community colleges next fall, take note – there are still 2 scholarships available through the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving for students attending 2 year programs within the Greater Hartford region. Both the HFPG Community College Scholarship Program and the Drs. Nima Patel and Daniel McNaughton Scholarship are renewable awards listed in Naviance with easy access to their on-line applications. Applications are due by August 15. Check them out today or see Mrs. Carty in the Career Center for assistance.

Future UConn ECE students must enroll in ECE courses prior to June 29. See Mr. Wry with any questions.

Reminder…Honor Roll Assembly certificates are in the Main Office.  Stop by to pick up yours if you did not attend the ceremony. They’ll make a great Father’s Day gift!

For any graduating senior or student not returning to South Windsor High School in the fall, there will be two opportunities to return your Chromebook. This Friday from 2:00pm – 3:00pm in the Media Center Seminar Room and Monday from 9:30am – 12:00pm also in the Media Center Seminar Room. You must bring your damage-free, assigned Chromebook, charger, and case with you. Chromebooks must be returned prior to graduation.

Interact Club would like to congratulate Krishna Chilakapati who received our Volunteer of the Year Award. Krishna went above and beyond our expectations and spent the most hours volunteering for Interact Club. Way to go, Krishna!

Student Council is hosting their first annual Flag Football Tournament today. Sign-ups are during lunch waves. Cost is $10 per person. Teams must be 7-10 players, 3 of which are girls.

The group meets August 14 through August 16 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Register at Eventbrite by searching “Make a Difference – South Windsor”. Flyers for this program are hanging in the Career Center.

Today is the last day to sign up for the FBLA Basketball 3 on 3. See Mrs. Barrett ASAP. Money is due today as well. Tournament will be canceled unless you sign up today. Thank you!

The Students of the Month for May have been selected. They were nominated by teachers who recognized academic, social, and civic excellence in the actions and behaviors of these students. The students of the month are:

Also, the high school would like to recognize two students that were inadvertently not recognized at recent awards ceremonies. First, please congratulate Avinash Sreeji for having perfect attendance this year, and secondly, please congratulate Juliet Burdick for her hard work in achieving High Honor Roll. Great work this year.

AP News:
-All students taking AP Government next year should attend an informational meeting after school on Thursday, June 14 in the Media Center Seminar Room. Any questions please see Mr. D'Amato. 

-Attention all future AP Psychology students. Please come to a mandatory summer work meeting after school tomorrow in the Cafeteria. If you have any questions please see Ms. Caless or Ms. Simcik.

-Any student taking the AP Economics next year should plan to meet on Thursday, June 14 in Room 160 to pick up materials for Summer Work. If you cannot attend please see Mr. Mabey in Room 160. 

-Attention future AP Language and Composition students: please attend a brief meeting this Friday, June 15 at 2:00pm in the cafeteria. We will be going over the summer work requirements during this time. If you cannot attend, please see Ms. Flachsbart or Mrs. McCullough. 

Students, please note: the last day for high school drop in at the Teen Center will be Thursday, June 14. Please plan accordingly.

Just a Reminder - This is your last chance to sign up! The Annual FBLA Basketball 3 on 3 event will be on Thursday, June 14 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in the gym. The cost is $5 a person. Prizes will be given out to the first, second, and third place teams. Any questions, or for sign up forms - please see Mrs. Barrett in Room 126. See you there.

Are you a book worm? Do you love to read? You're certainly not alone. Avid readers of the South Windsor Senior community are eager to connect with South Windsor High School students through literature. They will meet on Monday, June 25 at 10:00am to connect with those students with this common interest and to decide on a book to read and later discuss in July. Anyone who is interested, please join us at our first meeting at the South Windsor Community Center.

Leadership Greater Hartford is currently accepting applications for their Summer Nexus program. Summer Nexus is a seven day leadership program that assembles motivated and energetic high school students for a crash course in leadership development and community involvement. Participants will broaden their horizons by meeting new people and having new experiences. They will gain new skills to expand their resume as well as help them at home, at school and in job hunting. They will meet community leaders and do community service to help the Hartford region. If you are interested in the Summer Nexus program, see Ms. Lane in Room 6 with questions or for an application.

AP News:
Attention all students taking AP Statistics or AP Calculus next year: the meeting to go over summer work will not be happening, as there is no summer work. Your AP Math teachers would like you to enjoy your summer and rest your brains so you are ready to work hard when we return to school in August.

Any student taking the AP U.S. History next year should plan to meet today in the back of the Media Center to pick up materials for Summer Work. If you cannot attend please see Mr. Camire in Room 154.

Attention all students taking AP Chemistry next year. There will be a meeting today after school in Room 223. Summer work will be assigned. See Mrs. Powell with any questions.

Last night the SWHS Alumni Art Exhibition opened at the South Windsor Public Library. Alumni from 1972 up through 2016 are showing ceramics, jewelry, paintings and drawings. Artwork will be on display in the gallery and upper level showcases through June 21 during library hours.

If you are a “techie” looking for a summer internship, the Town of South Windsor’s Information Technology has an opportunity for you. This paid internship requires an individual who can update and install machines, maintain equipment inventory, and create “how to” documents among other tasks. A flier with information on hours, wages and how to apply is hanging in the Career Center.

Manchester Community College is accepting applications for its Student Scholarship. Applicants must have a current MCC application on file, plan to register for at least 6 credits and have filled out the FAFSA form. Information and an application can be found in Naviance or the Career Center. Applications must be completed by June 15.

United Bank South Windsor High School branch is hiring. We are seeking a motivated student who is interested in working in a banking environment. This position will equip you with cash handling skills, customer service, sales, and allow you to work in an environment with professionals who are growing their career in banking.
