If you are interested in picture retakes on Wednesday, October 2nd, please see Mrs. Richardson in the main office TODAY or Tuesday, October 1st to sign up and receive a pass.

For Grade 11 and 12 students who have successfully applied to the UConn ECE program, the enrollment deadline is Monday, September 30th at 5:00 p.m. Enrolling means to use your Net ID in the SAS system to pick your course. If you have any questions, or need help, please see Mr. Wry in Guidance.

If you are interested in aviation – whether flying or working on planes – there will be a Young Eagles Rally at Meriden - Markham Airport on Saturday, October 5th from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  A parent or guardian must accompany you in order for you to register to take a free flight and learn about what pilots do before, during and after a flight. You can find a flyer with details on the Programs and Events board in the Career Center.

A reminder to students enrolled in South Windsor High School classes that are eligible to receive MCC credit - if you do not already have a Banner ID from a previous MCC-affiliated class, the registration window to enroll opens on Tuesday, October 1st. You will have until October 31st to sign up for a Banner ID through MCC. If you have any questions or need another copy of the registration packet you received in class, please see either Mr. Leon or Mrs. Carty in School Counseling.

The Career Center will host representatives from three colleges on Tuesday - Sacred Heart University, Champlain College, and Plymouth State University. Sign up in Naviance if you would like to attend.

Athletic News:

The Varsity Girls' Soccer team defeated E.O. Smith on Thursday by a score of 2 to 1. Emma Smith scored and had an assist. Lindsay Fishman had a helper, while Cailin Sauer had the game winner. The combination of Fishman, Karly Suppicich and Kelly Morson dominated the middle of the field for the majority of the day while Maria Galley had 4 saves. The girls play Enfield on Tuesday.

Students interested in Tufts University who want to attend their Voices of Tufts Diversity Experience can apply to either their Engineering Experience or Arts & Science Experience. Both programs take place later in October, but require application NOW. The Voices program helps attract traditionally underrepresented populations to experience all aspects of college life at Tufts. The Jewish Culture Club will host our first meeting today at 2:15 p.m. in the Café. Thanks to Mr. Sytulek for helping us find a location large enough to house our group and please note that the Athletic Study Hall will be in room 102 today!

If you are attending the University of Connecticut visit this morning, please remember it will be held in the Media Center Seminar Room at 10:45 a.m. You can report directly to the room and sign in on the attendance sheet. 

This week's college visits will wrap up tomorrow with the University of Scranton, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Albertus Magnus College, and Elms College - there is something in that mix for everyone so sign up in Naviance today and come meet with the reps.

Anyone interested in joining the Bowling Club can pick up an application in room 168 starting TODAY, Wednesday, September 25th. There will be a brief meeting after school to answer anyone's questions. Please see Mr. Gray for details.

Reminder that permission slips for the camping trip on Saturday, October 5th are due this Friday, September 27. See Ms. Andrews room 234C.

Tomorrow’s UCONN visit will take place in the Media Center Seminar Room at 10:45 a.m. For this, and any visit, please make sure you are signing up in Naviance in advance and checking in with your teachers to let them know you will miss class. If you need help signing up in Naviance, see Mrs. Carty as soon as possible.

The Varsity Girls' Soccer team defeated East Hartford yesterday by a score of 7 to 0.  Emma Smith and Caitlin Sauer each netted two, Karly Suppicich one. Olivia Hewitt got her first of the Season, while Lindsay Fishman had a goal and an assist. Michelle Tavares had two helpers, Jordan Roberts had one and Maria Galley had an assist, a save and the shutout. Maddie Westfall and Ella Manning were stellar as always in defense. The girls play next at EO Smith on Thursday.

The first Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 25th at 7:00 a.m. in the Seminar Room. The SADD Club promotes good choices through education, activities and prevention initiatives. New and returning members are welcome. If you have questions, please see Mr. Peters in school counseling or Mrs. Rafalowsky in room 112.

Join us as we make chicken pot pie, cheesy fries and nachos, mac and cheese balls, pumpkin glazed donuts, churro apple pies and so much more. Bring $5 to Ms. Cliff or Sra. Ruiz in advance to reserve your seat at the table.  

Do you love learning about language and culture? Join Spanish Club! You will learn about a different Spanish-speaking country every meeting, once a month, and there will always be fun activities and a chance to meet new people! Old and new members are welcome to attend our first meeting on Wednesday, September 25th in room 231 to learn about our country of the month: Costa Rica! There will be food! For more information, see Señorita Handy or talk to seniors, Katie Rosenbaum or Kelli Poolman.

The first Student Council meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, September 24th at 2:05 p.m. in room 166. All members and new students interested in joining are welcome. Please attend to learn more about our goals for this year.

Two college representatives will visit South Windsor High School tomorrow. Athletic News:

Last week, the Boys Soccer team earned a 1-0 win vs Manchester with a goal from Carter Santos. It was Carter's first career varsity goal and it came from Jonny Rossetti's pass. Mike Pandiscia earned his first career varsity shutout. The boys play East Hartford at home on Tuesday at the multipurpose field.

The Future Health Professionals (formerly called HOSA) will be having an informational meeting of the year after school on Monday, September 23rd in Room 204. This club is for anyone interested in a career in the medical field or healthcare. We explore different fields and interests and have guest speakers come in to talk about their career experiences. See Mrs. Belval in Room 204 for more information and join our Google Classroom with the code k1ewe8e.

Are you interested in economics or finance? Do you see yourself working for the International Monetary Fund, Federal Reserve, or Goldman Sachs one day? Join the Economics Club. Throughout the year we will compete in multiple economics competitions, including ones held by Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania. Our first meeting for both new members and the leadership team will be held after school on Thursday, September 19th, in room 163 in the social studies hallway from 2:20 to 3:00 p.m. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Richards for more information. The Peer Mental Health Educators will have a drop-in board game social open to all students during all lunch waves Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. Anyone who would like to attend during their lunch wave can go to either the Career Center or Library Media Center and enjoy a variety of games during their wave.

The Common Ground Leadership Program is now accepting applications. Any students interested in improving leadership skills, community service and working on their college resume, should join the Google Classroom with code ujgro3c or see Mr. Orsini in room 229. The deadline for all applications is Friday, September 20th.
 
The Teen Center will be hosting its annual “Pizza, Prizes & Giveaways” back to school event This Thursday, September 19 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. This is a free event! Stop by for some food, hang out with friends and see the teen center space. No RSVP needed.

Tomorrow is a great day to come in to the Career Center. A representative from University of Oregon will be in at 10:45 a.m., followed by a representative from Lincoln Technical Institute at 12:45 p.m. Don’t forget that after school there will be another College Application Workshop until 3:00 p.m. Come with all of your questions about CommonApp, college essay, and how to use Naviance. Whether you have just a few last questions or haven’t even started, there will be a team on hand to help you out.

Africa is a huge and incredibly diverse continent but is frequently stereotyped as a monolith. If you've ever wanted to learn more about the various peoples, food, pop culture, and current life in different African countries, you have to check out the African American Culture Appreciation Club. Or perhaps you have first-hand experiences and connections with an African culture--we'd love to hear your perspective. All students are welcome and there will be snacks. The Varsity Girls' Soccer team defeated Conard yesterday by a score of 5 to 1. Caitlin Sauer scored three times, twice assisted by Rhianna O'Meara. Emma Smith also scored, assisted by Lindsay Fishman, while Savannah Rossetti got her first goal of the season. Kelly Morson and Candace Walsh had outstanding games while Maria Galley had 3 saves for the win. The team faces Manchester on Friday at home.

Africa is a huge and incredibly diverse continent but is frequently stereotyped as a monolith. If you've ever wanted to learn more about the various peoples, food, pop culture, and current life in different African countries, you have to check out the African American Culture Appreciation Club. Athletic News:

Karly Suppicich and Lindsay Fishman, recently voted Co Captains of the Girls' Varsity Soccer team for the 2019 Season, led the Bobcats to a 4 to 0 win over Bloomfield on Friday. Suppicich netted two and added an assist, while Fishman scored her first of the young Season. Emma Smith's goal goes as the game winner while Jordan Roberts and Candace Walsh added to the score sheet with helpers of their own. Caitlin Sauer rounded out the scoring with the assist on the days final tally. Maddie Westfall anchored the D for 80 minutes and Maria Galley had 2 saves to notch her 8th career shutout. The Bobcats travel to West Hartford on Tuesday to take on Conard.
