All locker slips must be turned in to the Main Office, and all lockers must be locked by TOMORROW. Lockers without locks will be bolted beginning after school tomorrow.

College visits to South Windsor High School begin in the Career Center next week. Our first visits will be from Tufts University, Sacred Heart University and Connecticut College on Monday. Register for these visits in Naviance and see Mrs. Carty if you need a pass or help signing up. This is a great way for you to meet directly with the people reading your college applications.

Hey Bobcat foodies. Cooking Club will be starting this month. We have a planning meeting TODAY, Thursday 9/13 after school in Room 105. Let's create a Halloween menu that's frightfully delicious. Bring in your $5 to reserve your spot for our cooking session on Wednesday, 9/26. Money can be given to Ms. Cliff or Sra. Ruiz.

Science Olympiad meets today at 2:10pm in Room 210. Come out and learn about being a part of one of the best Science Olympiad teams in the state.

Reminder! Interact Club meets today at 2:05pm in the Seminar Room. All students interested in learning more about the club and returning members should plan to attend. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Howard in Room 134.

Attention seniors: The Common App workshop will be held on September 17 from 1:25pm - 2:30pm. The essay writing workshop will be held on September 24 from 1:25pm - 2:30pm. Please take advantage of this opportunity to move forward with your application process.

Students interested in joining our literary magazine, Mind's Eye, should come to our first meeting of the year on Thursday September 20 right after school in Room 129. We are looking for both new and returning members. Any questions, please see Ms. Flachsbart in Room 129.

Seniors – college visits start in the Career Center next Monday, September 17. As of now, almost 70 colleges, universities and technical programs have appointments to come to South Windsor High School and more are scheduled every day. This is YOUR opportunity to learn about a school that interests you, interact with the person who will likely read your application, and ask your specific questions. Check the “What’s New” section on your Naviance homepage for a complete list of schools. If you need help seeing the schedule or registering for a visit, please see Mrs. Carty in the Career Center.

Mock Trial meets today at 2:10pm in Room 157. Case materials will be distributed. Please see Mr. Zeuschner if you cannot attend.

Parking passes will open up to Juniors starting tomorrow. Only COMPLETE applications are accepted, and they are processed on a first come, first served basis.

The Media Center will be closed during Period 5 this week. Please plan accordingly.

Are you interested in joining a club to meet new people and get involved? Join Interact, a community service club. Our first meeting is Thursday at 2:05pm in the Seminar Room. All students interested in learning more about the club and returning members should plan to attend. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Howard in room 134.

There will be an informational meeting for HOSA - Future Healthcare Professionals on Monday, September 17 at 2:05pm in Room 204. If you are interested in any healthcare profession this is a national organization for students. Any questions, please see Mrs. Belval. 

Attention Seniors: The School Counseling Department will be hosting workshops to assist seniors with writing the college essay and learning to navigate the Common Application. The Common App workshop will be held on September 17 from 1:25pm - 2:30pm. The essay writing workshop will be held on September 24 from 1:25pm - 2:30pm. Please take advantage of this opportunity to move forward with your application process. 

Anyone interested in joining the Math Team or returning members from last year should attend an informational meeting this Friday, September 14, right after school in Room 265. We will be discussing the schedule and important details about the competitions for this year. Please see Mr. Brindisi if you cannot attend.

The New England Association for College Admission Counselors hosts its fall college fair on Sunday, September 16 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Western New England University in Springfield, MA. The fair will be held in the Alumni Healthful Living Center and will feature representation from over 150 colleges and post-secondary institutions. For more information visit www.wne.edu/visit. A poster with details is also hanging outside School Counseling.

Attention Writing Center Tutors: We will hold our first Writing Center Meeting today after school in Room 135. Please contact Mrs. Howard or Ms. Pieratti if you cannot attend.

Students looking for part-time jobs should check out the Programs and Events board in the Career Center. In addition to the unpaid internship with the South Windsor Chamber of Commerce, there are also paid positions advertised such as lifeguards at the Ellington YMCA, STEM instructors with K Rockets Engineering and Technology School, customer service or purchasing and accounting interns at a local manufacturing company, and staff at Wendy’s in Vernon. Come in today for application instructions.

The first Student Council meeting for all representatives will be on Monday, September 17 at 2:10pm in Room 163. New members welcome. There will be snacks. Come to learn more about the club as we will be discussing goals for the year. Please find Ms. Ullinger if you have any questions.

The T-Wrecks Steppers will meet today for returning members at 2:00pm in Room 201. Newly interested steppers should come to our first practice Monday, September 17 at 2:00pm in the Rubber Room or see Mrs. Field in Room 201 for info.

Athletic News:
-The Varsity Girls’ Soccer team ran their record to 2-0 yesterday with a 1-0 victory over Manchester.  Karly Suppicich tallied the game’s only goal while the Bobcat defense pitched a shutout behind the play of Ella Manning, Maddie Westfall, and the goal keeping of Maria Galley.  The girls take on Windsor in their next outing, at home on Friday.

-Congratulations to the Girls’ Volleyball team for starting out the season strong. The team faced East Hartford Friday with the freshmen team winning 2-0, JV losing a close one 2-0, and Varsity winning 3-0. Last night they had a clean sweep of Manchester for the first home opener with both JV and freshmen teams winning 2-0 and Varsity 3-0. The team will travel to out-of-division rival tonight to play Rockville. Good luck to the team, and we hope to see you there.

-A reminder to the Girls’ Volleyball team that the bus to Rockville will leave at 3:00pm today. Be sure to go to study hall right after school and meet a coach at the locker room by 2:40pm to change for the match and catch the bus on time. Any questions, see Coach Holt.

All locker slips must be turned in to the Main Office by this Friday. Please stop by the Main Office to notify us if you have a problem with your locker so we can help. If you did not receive your locker slip, we have that too. 

Science Olympiad will have its first meeting on Thursday, September 13 at 2:10pm in Room 210. If you are interested in science and technology and love to compete, come out and learn about being a part of one of the best Science Olympiad teams in the state.

The Teen Center will open on Wednesday, September 12. Since it is the start of a new school year, permission slips are needed. Visit the Teen Center to pick one up or download it from our website. Looking forward to seeing old and new friends.

At Strategy Club we believe there's a game for everyone. Come to Room 146 on Thursday to find your game.

The T-Wrecks Steppers will be holding an informational meeting for returning members on Wednesday, September 12 at 2:00pm in Room 201. Interested in seeing what we are all about or joining? Come to our first practice Monday, September 17 at 2:00pm in the Rubber Room or see Mrs. Field in Room 201 for info.

The UCONN Early College Experience Courses for this year are AP Lit, Modern Western Traditions, AP Econ, Classical Mythology, Latin IV, Environmental Science, Marine Science and AP Physics 1. ECE is a program where students take UConn classes while at SWHS and receive college credit good at UConn as well as almost every other college in the country. College Credit is only received if you sign up correctly. The LATE Application deadline is September 14, and the LATE Enrollment deadline is September 28. There is an extra $25 fee during this time period for all classes except AP Econ and Classical Mythology.  Please see UConn’s website or Mr. Wry for more details.

Athletic News:
The Girls' Varsity Soccer team got off to a fast start Friday with a 7-0 drubbing of East Hartford. Julia Sarra, Ella Manning, Taylor Patitucci, Leah LePage, Lindsay Fishman and Rachel Drouin all scored. Alyssa Millerd and Nicole Grasso had nice defensive games, while Maria Galley and Chloe Lucia combined for the shutout. Next up for the Bobcats is Manchester today.

The Academic Support Center is looking for a few tutors to work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday afternoons from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. You must be a junior or a senior in AP or honor classes to apply. We pay $10.10 an hour. See Mrs. Barrett if you are interested.

The first meeting for Model UN will be on Thursday, September 6 in the back of the Media Center after school. No experience needed and all are welcome!

The National Honor Society is currently inviting eligible candidates to complete the selection process. If you are a junior or senior who has a cumulative, weighted GPA of 3.67, you should receive a letter in the mail notifying you of your candidacy. If you do not receive a letter but think you qualify, please see Ms. Griswold in Room 227. All eligible students should also attend the general body meeting on Wednesday, September 5 at 2:00pm in the cafeteria. Candidate packets and additional selection materials will be provided at that time. Please see Ms. Griswold in Room 227 if you cannot attend the meeting on Wednesday.
