On Wednesday, May 23, the Registrars of Voters for South Windsor will be in the lobby to register students who will be 18 by the election in November. Please bring a valid ID and stop at the table to register to vote. Your voice is important.

United Bank South Windsor High School branch is hiring. We are seeking a motivated student who is interested in working in a banking environment. This position will equip you with cash handling skills, customer service, sales, and allow you to work in an environment with professionals who are growing their career in banking. The South Windsor Gay Straight Alliance Day of Silence is coming up on Tuesday, May 22. Participants will take a vow of silence for the day in observance of the many voices silenced by bullying and harassment. Today is the last day to sign up for participation -- see Mrs. Knapp in Room 148.

Class Officer AND Student Council Elections are on Thursday, May 24. All those interested in running for Class Office or Student Council may pick up an application in the main office or Admin 237. All applications are due TODAY. 

Seniors looking for help paying for college - here are upcoming scholarship deadlines to note. If you have a parent or grandparent who is a current or retired teacher in the South Windsor school system, you are eligible to apply for the SWEA scholarship, due May 18. The following scholarships are due May 31: South Windsor Soccer Club (for any student who has been a player or referee in the club), Society of Women Engineers (for female students pursuing engineering or computer science), and the Sila Foundation (for students planning to major in business, education, finance, accounting, insurance, marketing or math).

Reminder…Hartford Area Roller Derby (HARD) is offering a $500 scholarship to a Connecticut high school female athlete who will be attending a Connecticut college or university in the fall of 2018. HARD invites essays from well qualified candidates to speak about how their experience in sports has contributed to their overall character, and how these experiences will help guide them to future success both academically and personally. Applications can be picked up in SWHS Main Office and sent to:  [email protected] or mailed to: Scholarship Committee, c/o Hartford Area Roller Derby, PO Box 8190, Manchester, CT 06040.  Application and essays are due by June 1, 2018. In your essay, please be sure to include the name and contact information of your high school guidance counselor as well. Winner of the scholarship will be notified in June.

Athletic News:
-The girls’ tennis team won 7-0 yesterday against Manchester. Double bagels came from singles Varsha Rathore, and Sam Donovan, with great performances by Caitlin Sze and Ananya Srivatsav as well. Doubles Leah Polansky and Jia Yazon won with a bagel, Rebecca Kenefick and Kelly Kozon with a double bagel, and although Julie Harper and Payal Shah didn’t get to finish their match, they also displayed strong performance and skill. Yesterday the team celebrated senior day in honor of seniors Kelly Kozon, Julie Harper, Payal Shah, and Mallory Sander. After school today is the Zebra Cup, where student-teacher teams will face off; be sure to come watch the matches. All donations will benefit the American Heart Society.

-The boys’ tennis team brought home another victory winning against Manchester by a score of 5-2 which brings their record to 11 wins and 4 losses. Winning in Singles were Brandon Sze and Parker Pacekonis in straight sets. Winning in Doubles were Elijah Wood & Jack Perry, Dan Zhu and Sam Kim and Andris Reba and Jason Richenbacher. The next match is Friday at home against East Catholic which will also be Senior Day - come out and watch the seniors as they play in one of the final matches in their high school careers.

-The boys’ volleyball team won both matches at home last night vs. Glastonbury. Both matches were close with JV winning 2-1 and Varsity 3-2. The team will travel tomorrow to face Wethersfield.
