New job opportunities are posted on the board in the Career Center. K-ROCKETS Engineering and Technology School, an Ellington-based company bringing STEM programs to school-aged youth, is seeking summer camp counselors and STEM instructors for a school year program. Candidates must be at least 16, have reliable transportation, and be enthusiastic about STEM programs. More details and contact information is available on the flyers.

Manchester Community College is accepting applications for its Student Scholarship. Applicants must have a current MCC application on file, plan to register for at least 6 credits and have filled out the FAFSA form. Information and an application can be found in Naviance or the Career Center. Applications must be completed by June 15.  

Yoga Club will meet Monday at 2:15pm in the Chorus Room to practice yoga. All are welcome to come practice yoga with us.

The Metropolitan University Tour will come to Harford on Wednesday, May 23 at 7:00pm at the Hartford Marriott Downtown. The program features research universities in 5 major cities, including SMU, Tulane, George Washington University, Northeastern and NYU. Representatives will share information about their schools and tips on the application process and answer questions. For more information, visit www.met.tours.

The Exploring College Options spring program will take place at sites throughout New England and NY during the week of May 20.  Students interested in learning more about Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn or Stanford can choose from 5 program dates and locations that week. A flier with all options is hanging in the Career Center. Please note that this program usually takes place again in Farmington each fall, but families wanting to get information earlier may choose to drive to these regional locations now.

The Hartford County 4H Camp in Marlborough is seeking a kitchen maintenance person for its summer camp program.  The person in this position will assist the chef in kitchen related duties, including salad bar preparation, food storage, washing and sanitizing of equipment and materials, and serving meals. Candidates MUST be at least 18 years of age. For a complete job description and application instructions, see the board in the Career Center.

This is an important announcement regarding the JE Shepard Memorial Award given by the South Windsor Jaycees. Due to a lack of applications, the deadline for this scholarship has been extended until Friday, May 25. This scholarship offers $2,000 for a South Windsor High School student who has demonstrated initiative, spirit and integrity in serving his or her community. Applications can be picked up in the Career Center or the School Counseling Office. All completed applications MUST be returned to Mrs. Carty no later than May 25. 

The next meeting of the Italian Club will be Monday, May 21 right after school. We will meet in Room 226, play bocce, and have some snacks outside. Come show off your skills or learn to play the game. New members are always welcome.  Please let Mrs. Zaccardelli know if you would like to attend by Friday, May 18.

On Wednesday, May 23, the Registrars of Voters for South Windsor will be in the lobby to register students who will be 18 by the election in November. Please bring a valid ID and stop at the table to register to vote. Your voice is important.

Reminder… Hartford Area Roller Derby (HARD) is offering a $500 scholarship to a Connecticut high school female athlete who will be attending a Connecticut college or university in the fall of 2018.  Applications can be picked up in SWHS Main Office and sent to: [email protected] or mailed to: Scholarship Committee, c/o Hartford Area Roller Derby, PO Box 8190, Manchester, CT 06040. Application and essays are due by June 1, 2018. In your essay, please be sure to include the name and contact information of your high school guidance counselor as well. Winner of the scholarship will be notified in June.

Athletic News:
-Yesterday Girls Track and Field defeated East Catholic 98 to 51 in the last dual meet of the season. Congratulations to seniors Emily Pejril, Tori Ostrowski, Izzy Erikson, Tiana Barnes, Shannon Anthony, Emily Nadeau, Olivia Besthoff, Kavitha Francis, Sarah Karasik and Sonali Chokshi. The next track meet will be the JI Invitational at Manchester High School on Saturday.
