Attention Seniors: South Windsor Administrator Association Perseverance Award and Scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating SWHS student that has overcome academic, social, or personal challenges during their 4 years of high school. The award decision will be based on a short 500 word writing prompt, extracurricular activities, and academics. The online application must be submitted and the supplemental document must be emailed by noon on June 1, 2018. Scholarship payment will be made directly to your post-secondary institution. The link is available on the school's website. 

The National Honors Society is hosting an AP Book Swap from Monday, May 21 to Friday, May 25. NHS members will be present outside the cafeteria before school with a box to oversee the pick-up and drop off of your AP review books and flashcards. Please come and donate your AP books and get a new one for yourself.

Hey Bobcat Foodies. The Cooking Club will be having its final session on May 30. We'll be making summer favorites and cool treats. Be the star at any summer party with these crowd-pleasing recipes. Please reserve your spot by bringing $5 to Ms. Clifford or Sra. Ruiz by this Friday.

The GSA Day of Silence is coming up tomorrow - thank you to all who have signed up to participate. Even if you are not silently protesting, you can still show your support of the LGBTQ community by wearing black and sporting your rainbow ribbons and bracelets. We are stronger together. The Gay Straight Alliance will meet briefly today after school in Room 148. Please make an effort to attend.

United Bank South Windsor High School branch is hiring. We are seeking a motivated student who is interested in working in a banking environment. This position will equip you with cash handling skills, customer service, sales, and allow you to work in an environment with professionals who are growing their career in banking. The Hartford County 4H Camp in Marlborough is seeking a kitchen maintenance person for its summer camp program. The person in this position will assist the chef in kitchen related duties, including salad bar preparation, food storage, washing and sanitizing of equipment and materials, and serving meals. If you’ve ever thought about becoming a pilot or exploring any career in aviation, you can check out the Young Eagles Rally on June 9 from 9:00am – 3:00pm at Meriden-Markham Airport. Anyone between the ages of 8 and 17 can take a free flight and see what pilots do before, during and after a flight. For an informational flyer about how to participate, see Mrs. Carty or the bulletin board in the Career Center.

Reminder… on Wednesday, the Registrars of Voters for South Windsor will be in the lobby to register students who will be 18 by the election in November. Please bring a valid ID and stop at the table to register to vote. 

Athletic News:
-The girls’ tennis team ended their regular season with a strong win against East Catholic last Friday, winning 7-0. Their overall score for the season is 14–1. Singles Caitlin Sze, Varsha Rathore and Sophia Chin all won with a bagel, and so did 1st doubles Leah Polansky and Jia Yazon and 2nd doubles Rebecca Kenefick and Kelly Kozon. 4th singles Sam Donovan and 3rd doubles Payal Shah and Mallory Sander both scored 6-2 in both their sets. Congratulations to the team for a great season, and good luck at states.

-On Saturday the girls’ track and field team competed in the JI Invitational against 20 other teams. Congratulations to Erin Dunn, Izzy Erikson, Marlena Klein, Micaela Hanson, Kavitha Francis, Shannon Anthony, Sarah Karasik, and Tiana Barnes who all placed in the top 8 in their individual events. Erin Stephens, Missy Sullivan, Elizabeth Martinez, Anna Armstrong, and Lindsey Hurd also placed in the top 8 in relays. The next track meet will be the CCC Championships on Tuesday at Enfield.

-It was Senior Day on Friday as the Bobcats boys’ tennis team honored the following 7 players as they say goodbye to the team: Brandon Sze, Parker Pacekonis, Femi Orisamolu, Shijo Thomas, Wayne Huang, Avin Sapowadia and Kevin Lui. The team brought home another victory increasing their record to 12 wins and 4 losses. Winning at singles in straight sets: Brandon Sze, Ronnak Saxena, Femi Orisamolu and Parker Pacekonis and winning in doubles were Sam Kim & Dan Zhu. The last home match is Monday against Simsbury… would love to see some fans cheering the team on to another victory.

-The boys’ volleyball team traveled to Wethersfield on Friday night, with JV winning 2-0 and Varsity losing a close one 3-2. The team will be host East Hartford tonight for their final regular season match just prior to varsity playing in the upcoming CCC and state tournaments. Hope you will come out and support your fellow Bobcats tonight.
