Today is the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I.

The Unified Theatre Board reminds all teachers and club advisors to nominate their club leaders for the Bobcat Leaders for Inclusion Conference. Permission slips need to be distributed as soon as possible and must be returned to Mrs. White by today, November 9.

Italian Club will meet on Monday, November 12 right after school in room 226. We'll be playing Italian games and having snacks. Please see Mrs. Zaccardelli.

SADD is collecting new socks for Hands on Hartford, an Anti-poverty agency in Hartford, which distributes clothes to the homeless. As the temperature begins to drop, please remember those less fortunate by donating a pair of socks. A collection hamper is located outside of School Counseling.

South Windsor High School’s Counseling Department is sponsoring a field trip to UConn Hartford Branch on Thursday, November 29. Any interested Junior or Senior should pick up a permission slip in the Counseling Office. Seating is limited.

Calling all writers: the Scholastic Writing Awards is accepting submissions until December 4. The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is a national program that recognizes student achievement in writing and art. If you're interested in submitting original poetry, fiction, non-fiction, drama, or other work, please see your English teacher for more information or visit www.artandwriting.org.

On November 16, South Windsor High School will offer the ASVAB exam. While this is a required test for entrance into the military, it is also a valuable test to explore potential career possibilities. If you have questions about the ASVAB test, please see Dr. LaRochelle in School Counseling.

The Teen Center will be closed on Monday, November 12.

There will be a Young Eagles Rally at Meriden-Markham Airport on Saturday, November 17 from 9 am to 3 pm. Visitors ages 8 to 17 will be able to take a free flight and see what real pilots do before, during and after a flight. Bring a parent or guardian and register at the event. The rain date is November 18 and fliers are available in the Career Center.

If you have ever considered art school or a career in art, a representative from Hartford Art School will offer a presentation in the Career Center Monday morning at 8:45 am.  If you would like to attend this session, see Mrs. Carty to pick up a permission slip pass for classes you will miss.

Yoga Club will meet Monday at 2:15 pm in the Chorus room. Everyone is welcome. See Ms. Lane in room 6 with any questions.

The SWHS National Honor Society offers a FREE tutoring service to all students. This program is available to any student in need of help at any time throughout the school year. Students can contact National Honor Society directly by filling out the Google form. Parents can request a tutor by emailing NHS directly at [email protected]. All the specifics can be found on the SWHS home page. Don't fall behind, get extra help if you need it! It's free!

The next fundraising meeting for Travel Club will be on Wednesday, November 14 at 2:10 pm in room 233. Please contact Sra. Ruiz if you are unable to attend.

FBLA members: Thursday, November 15 is National Enterprise Day. There will be a mandatory meeting in the Cafe at 2:00 pm. Refreshments and snacks will be served. Many area businesses are coming in share their expertise with you. There will be give-a-ways and raffles. Please plan on attending. NO excuses please. Dress is business casual attire - no jeans or sneakers.

Athletic News:

The Girls’ Volleyball team lost a hard fought battle against Southington last night in the Class LL State Tournament. They were led by Senior Co-captain Selena Guo with 18 defensive digs. The players and coaches would like to thank all the staff and students who have supported them this season. Congratulations to the team for a fun and competitive year, and best of luck to the seniors. 

Field hockey lost 0-1 in second round of States but they had a tremendous season and played a great game. Goalie Sarah Gallagher had 28 saves in the loss.
