The month of April has been designated as the Month of the Military Child or “Purple Up! For Military Kids” in Connecticut.  Help celebrate the important role of military-connected children by wearing the color purple tomorrow, Wednesday, April 24.

April is also Autism Awareness month.  Please wear blue on Thursday, April 25 and bring in $1 to donate to Autism Families Connecticut.

There will be a brief Student Council meeting this Thursday, April 25 after school in room 163.  All members should attend.

Day Pitney, a Hartford law firm, is offering a paid summer internship program for sophomore and junior students from minority backgrounds who are interested in gaining corporate or law experience.  Qualified and interested students can get more information and an application from the Career Center.

Attention all sophomores looking for an outstanding leadership opportunity.  RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) is a free 1-day leadership program at Springfield College taking place on Saturday, June 1 from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. At this experience, high school sophomores from the area join together to complete team-building exercises that focus on what it takes to successfully lead others. If interested, please stop by School Counseling and pick up an application. The application is due Friday, April 26.

For any students applying to the William L. Perry Scholarship, please remember that the deadline is Friday, April 26 and applications need to be returned to the Career Center.  South Windsor High School students can also consider applying to the Marcella Masinda Scholarship.  This scholarship is only for a student graduating from SWHS who has demonstrated efforts to improve society through civic and social activities.  This scholarship is essay based and can be renewable for four years if the recipient remains in good academic standing.  Applications for the Masinda Scholarship are due Friday, May 3.

For students taking UConn ECE classes next year, there will be a mandatory application assembly on Monday, April 29 at 7:45 am in the Auditorium.  Next year’s ECE Courses are Marine Science, Environmental Science, AP Physics 1, Modern Western Traditions, AP Economics, Latin IV, Classical Mythology, and Seminar in Writing. Please see your Counselor with any questions.

Join the Italian club for a game of bocce and pizza on Monday, April 29 right after school.  We'll meet in room 226 and then go outside.  Please bring Mrs. Zaccardelli $5 by Friday to save your spot.  Everyone is welcome!

The Bobcat Prowl journalism staff has published their first magazine. The magazine highlights what was going on in our school during the winter months-including student features, sports highlights, and club showcases!  Stop by room 142 to grab your FREE copy or see a member of the Bobcat Prowl!  We're producing our second magazine NOW, so if you have any photos or stories you'd like included, see Ms. Dobosz.
