Today for Black History Month, we recognize Marley Dias. Marley Dias, is a young changemaker who as a sixth-grader founded #1000BlackGirlBooks. Her campaign, #1000BlackGirlBooks, had a goal of collecting and donating children's books that feature Black girls as the lead characters. Dias said, “Each of us has a magic inside of us that we can use to make the world a better place.”

Student Council and BPO are hosting a monthly Kahoot Trivia League! The second Kahoot Trivia game will be on Thursday, March 4th at 7:00 p.m. All students are welcome to play. There is no entry fee. The South Windsor Patriotic Commission has announced their annual essay contest for students of South Windsor. High school students are asked to write an essay on “What it means to me to be an American” in 500 words or less. All entries must be received by Monday, March 1. Winners will receive a gift card - first place $100.00, second place $50 and third place $25. Please see your Social Studies teacher or Mrs. Slogesky for the contest flyer and application.

The South Windsor Teen Center will host a Virtual Paint Night on Tuesday, March 16th from 6:30-7:30pm. Lindsey’s Craft Studio will be leading participants through the creation of a dot mandala painting. This event costs $5 but will go towards a painting kit filled with the supplies needed to create your masterpiece. To raise funding for the kids, SWFTK has a prize calendar for the month of February. For each $5 donation, you will be entered in the drawing for each prize in that week. Wentworth Institute of Technology celebrates National Engineers Week with a series of on-line presentations and panels from Monday, Feb. 22nd to Friday, Feb. 26th. All students interested in engineering fields are invited to attend. The events will offer the opportunity to speak to students and faculty and will offer a new engineering-related theme each day. First Approach EMS Education is offering a spring 2021 Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program at its training center in East Windsor. The evening class is available from March 9th - May 20th with in-person skills training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 - 9:30 p.m. Additional information may be found at www.firstapproach.org.
