February is Black History Month. Today, Rho Kappa, the National Social Studies Honor Society honors: 
Natasha Trethewey. Natasha Trethewey won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for her poetry collection Native Guard, which was about black Union soldiers who guarded a fort during the Civil War. Natasha has been winning prizes for her poems on culture since she published her first collection, Domestic Work, and now works as a creative writing professor.

Attention all students taking the AMC 10 or 12 tomorrow: Please report directly to the cafeteria between 7:15am and 7:20am tomorrow with a pencil(s); you may also bring a ruler, protractor, and eraser, if you wish. Scratch paper and graph paper will be provided. No calculators or electronic devices of any kind may be used! You will miss periods 1 and 3. If there is a school cancellation tomorrow, the AMC will be rescheduled for a date later in February. See Mr. Brindisi in Room 265 with any questions.

Reminder to the students attending the field trip to the Wolfpack School Day Game tomorrow… You must bring a bagged lunch or money (cash, debit or credit card) for the trip. The $5 from the field trip cost will be refunded to you at a later date. Also note, we will meet in the main lobby at 7:55am tomorrow morning before boarding the bus at the back of the school.  

Mind's Eye will hold a meeting this Wednesday, February 7, at 2:00pm in Room 146. New members are welcome to attend!

The CT Trolley Museum in East Windsor is looking for volunteers, whether on a regular basis, just for events, or to fulfill service hour requirements. To learn more about opportunities with the museum, view an information flyer in the Career Center or call the Trolley Museum at 860-627-6540.

A reminder to students taking a course eligible for MCC credit, please be sure to register by Thursday, February 8 or you will miss your chance. If you need assistance, please see Dr. Bombara in School Counseling or Mrs. Carty in the Career Center. 

Applications for the Alpha Delta Kappa – Pi Chapter Scholarship are now available in the Career Center. This is a $1,000 scholarship for female students planning to pursue a career in teaching. The application deadline is April 30. Several scholarships have deadlines next week – please check Naviance for a complete list. The Dollars for Scholars portal will remain open for a few more weeks. Seniors hoping to take advantage of these local funds should already be working on their applications.

The Strategy Club will meet this week on Wednesday after school in Room 146.

Reminder to seniors…if you have done your Capstone presentation but have not submitted the written portion of the project, you must do so by THIS FRIDAY.
