February is Black History Month. Today, Rho Kappa, the National Social Studies Honor Society honors:
Matthew Henson. Matthew Henson was the first human to reach the North Pole. An expert with sleds and dogs and fluent in the Inuit language, he was hired by Robert E. Peary as an assistant in his quest to reach the North Pole. Although Peary was celebrated for the achievement, Henson’s role was largely unrecognized for years.

It is an estuary, meaning that it is a mix of saltwater from the oceans and freshwater from rivers. This large estuary is home to over 1,200 invertebrates, 170 species of fish, and dozens of migratory birds.
