March is Women’s History Month. Today we honor: Grace Hopper. Grace Hopper was a computer programmer for the navy during World War II, where she programmed the Mark I computer. After the war, Hopper led the team that designed the first compiler, as well as contributed to the creation of the programing language, COBOL. At age 79, Hopper was the oldest serving officer in the military. She was also the first woman to receive the National Medal of Technology.

Applications for the 2018 South Windsor Little League Baseball/Softball Scholarships are available in the Career Center.  The Little League will award three $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors from the Class of 2018 who participated in the SW Little league. Deadline for submission is April 20, 2018.

Attention all South Windsor High School students! Student Council is hosting a Trivia Night on April 20 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm in the cafeteria. Sign up your team to win big! Cost is $10 per team and limited to 5 students per team. Student council members will be collecting money from teams signing up through lunch waves throughout the week. There will be over $300 worth of prizes. Categories for trivia will range from sports, to pop culture, to high school staff and more. Get ready for a fun night.

Seniors take note – there are several scholarships with deadlines during or just after the upcoming long weekend. Search the scholarship database by deadline to find the ones that require urgent attention. Of note are the Myron Cohen, Louie Family, and Joe Lieberman scholarships – all due this weekend.

The Connecticut Congressional Delegation hosts the 2018 Military Service Academy Night on Wednesday, April 25 at 6:00pm at the MG Maurice Rose Armed Forces Reserve Center in Middletown. All interested high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are invited to come learn about our nation’s military academies. An informational flyer is hanging on the Programs & Events board in the Career Center. You can also visit the website of any member of the Connecticut Congressional Delegation to find information about this event.

The South Windsor Chamber of Commerce is looking for an intern for summer 2018. This unpaid position offers flexible days and times and provides experience in marketing and events as well as working in an office environment. For more information on how to apply, see the flyer on the Programs & Events board in the Career Center.

Star Hill Family Athletic Center is offering a lifeguard certification course from April 24 – April 29. A flyer is hanging in the Career Center listing prerequisites, schedule, and contact information. 

Manchester Community College’s spring open house will take place Tuesday, April 3 from 4:30-6:30pm in the Great Path Academy Gymnasium. Registration is encouraged, but not required. Visit “manchestercc.edu/openhouse” for more information.

Students nominated for the Common Ground workshop are reminded that their permission slips are due TODAY. See Ms. Lane in Room 6 if you have any questions.

Mind's Eye will host a coffeehouse tonight at 6:00pm in the Media Center. Come and take part in our open mic, or just to support your friends…hope to see you there.
