The Teen Center is currently open for drop-in hours and welcomes all high school students to attend on Monday and Thursdays from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. The Center is located in the Community Center at 150 Nevers Road, across from the high school and offers a variety of activities including a Wii and Xbox, pool tables, air hockey, ping-pong, and ski ball. Join them to watch movies on rainy days, or if you enjoy DIY activities they have plenty of craft supplies. The William L. Perry scholarship is awarded to South Windsor High School graduating seniors who have a record of outstanding leadership and have successfully studied a rigorous courseload. Applications are due this Friday, May 14th. Please search for the scholarship in Naviance or contact Mrs. Carty if you need help finding it.

There are several job postings for part-time or summer work available to students who are at least 16 years of age. The Red Cabin Restaurant is hiring both a dishwasher and a busser/food runner, Channel 3 Kids Camp is looking for 18 year old or older students interested in working with kids in its summer program, Six Flags, Lowe’s and LAZ Parking have all been looking for help recently. Stop by the Career Center to get application information on jobs that might interest you.
 
ATHLETIC NEWS:
The Boys Tennis Team got back on the winning track after 4 tough matches with a win over Enfield/Somers Co-Op by a score of 5-2. Winning for the Bobcats were Rahul Mahesh and Kevin Joseph in Singles and Vrishab Murali & Anthony Chen in Doubles. Enfield/Somers defaulted their #2 & #3 Doubles. The Bobcats next match is Tuesday, May 11th vs. Rocky Hill at home. Congrats to the team for their win!

Seniors who have not yet completed Capstone are in danger of being unable to attend Senior Outing. There is a mandatory workshop being held this Friday, May 7th to aid you in finishing this graduation requirement. It will take place in room 132 for students attending in person.  Full distance learners will attend online via Google Meet. Students will be scheduled for a workshop during their early release, study hall, or may be excused from classes depending on their individual class schedule. You will be informed of when you are to attend the workshop through Google Classroom and your school email. To be eligible to attend Senior Outing, the written portion of Capstone must be turned into Google Classroom by May 13th. After you have completed the written components, your presentation will be scheduled. Capstone requirements are detailed on the Capstone Google Classroom. This is a great opportunity for students who meet the criteria as it is for SWHS students ONLY. You must apply by May 14th. The application is linked to the scholarship listing in Naviance. The Bobcats Boys Tennis played their toughest match so far this season against a very strong Avon team. Although the team lost 0-7, the team made the Avon team work for their wins - Great Job Guys! Next match is another tough one away at Hall!

May is Asian-American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month.  As we celebrate and honor the AAPI communities this month, take a moment to recognize the numerous contributions members of the AAPI community have made to our country and the world. Please take a moment to reflect on how you can contribute to a more inclusive community.

ATHLETIC NEWS:
The Bobcats lost a tight match to Wethersfield by a score of 3-4. Winning for the Bobcats was Jonathan Huot and Matthew Chin at Singles and Noah Marques & Suri Singaravelu at Doubles. The Bobcats' record is now 5 wins and 2 losses with tough matches coming up with Avon on Wednesday and Hall on Friday.

On Friday the undefeated Boys Tennis Team fell to a strong Glastonbury team by a score of 6-1. The lone winner for the Bobcats was Rahul Mahesh in a tough 3 set match at 3rd singles - Congrats Rahul! The team's record stands at 5-1. The Bobcats are looking to get back on the winning track Monday at home versus Wethersfield.

Attention Seniors: Please visit the Class of 2021 Google Classroom for important information about senior events. Mrs. McCool will be collecting payments in the library this week during the school day for the senior events. If you are attending the senior outing, be sure to bring your signed permission slip along with your payment. The South Windsor Girls Travel Basketball Scholarship application has just been posted with a deadline of May 5th. Applicants must have participated in at least one season with South Windsor Girls Travel Basketball, and preferably have played at least one sport all four years at SWHS. Application information is available in Naviance. Students who are interested should start the application soon to allow time to gather recommendations and write an essay.
 
Would you like to know about a career in Medical Assisting or Advanced Manufacturing Technology? Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield is offering FREE classes for high school students in these topics over the summer. These hands-on courses are a great way to explore career options while earning college credits at NO COST. If you would like to know more, please visit the Career Center to view flyers posted on the bulletin board.
 
More summer job opportunities are available to students who are at least 16 years old and looking to work part-time. Six Flags New England in Agawam, MA is looking to hire friendly, outgoing, and driven applicants for Ride Operations, Food and Beverage, Lifeguarding, Security, Games, Retail, and the Clean Team. LAZ Parking is looking for lot attendants and flaggers for their summer events at Rentschler Field, Dunkin Donuts Park, Xfinity Theater and Travelers. The JE Shepard Scholarship deadline has just been extended to May 5th. This $2,000 award is given to a SWHS student who has demonstrated initiative, spirit and integrity in serving his/her community, and it is a great opportunity for students to apply for a local scholarship.

Shout out to the South Windsor Lady Bobcats Golf Team on their first victory! The Ladies defeated New Britain on Wednesday. Low scores were had by Meghna Mazumdar and Abby Bergstrom. Great job ladies!

The South Windsor Girls Travel Basketball Scholarship application has just been posted with a deadline of May 5th. Applicants must have participated in at least one season with South Windsor Girls Travel Basketball, and preferably have played at least one sport all four years at SWHS. Application information is available in Naviance. Students who are interested should start the application soon to allow time to gather recommendations and write an essay.
 
Would you like to know about a career in Medical Assisting or Advanced Manufacturing Technology? Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield is offering FREE classes for high school students in these topics over the summer. These hands-on courses are a great way to explore career options while earning college credits at NO COST. If you would like to know more, please visit the Career Center to view flyers posted on the bulletin board.
 
Smith College in Northampton, MA will run its annual Women of Distinction program for prospective students who are African American, Latina, Asian American and Native American. Admission is for female students who are current juniors. The program will take place virtually in October. Six Flags New England in Agawam, MA is looking to hire friendly, outgoing, and driven applicants for Ride Operations, Food and Beverage, Lifeguarding, Security, Games, Retail, and the Clean Team. LAZ Parking is looking for lot attendants and flaggers for their summer events at Rentschler Field, Dunkin Donuts Park, Xfinity Theater and Travelers. The JE Shepard Scholarship deadline has just been extended to May 5th. This $2,000 award is given to a SWHS student who has demonstrated initiative, spirit and integrity in serving his/her community, and it is a great opportunity for students to apply for a local scholarship.
 
ATHLETIC NEWS:

Boys Tennis continued its undefeated season with a 5-2 win over EO Smith. Winning for the Bobcats were: Rahul Mahesh, Matthew Chin and Kevin Joseph at Singles and Vrishab Murali & Anthony Chen and Sri Sripada & Trinayaan Hariharan at Doubles. The Bobcats record is now 5-0 with one of our toughest matches coming up this Friday versus Glastonbury at South Windsor. Great job Bobcats!
