This Thursday during lunch, Healers with Halos Therapy Dogs will be in the back of the Media Center to provide a little stress relief before midterms start on Friday. Come stop by and say hi to Jack, the white collie and Reilly, the golden retriever and their handlers.

Anyone in the Bobcat Bowling Club should report to the lobby during home room on Thursday, January 16th for a yearbook photo. If you have any questions see Mr. Gray in room 168.

Need help studying for exams? The National Honor Society is holding a review session after school in the Cafeteria on Thursday, January 16th. Snacks will be provided.

The Cafeteria will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for breakfast service during exams. Please plan accordingly.

Important announcement about midterm exams: Students who use bus transportation to get to and from school are not allowed to leave school when they do not have an exam. Students waiting for an exam to start, or for buses to arrive, must stay in the Cafeteria. On Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th exam make-up sessions will be held during the second exam period. There will be a bus that departs school at 9:25 a.m. and a late bus that departs school at 11:25 a.m. on make-up days.

The South Windsor for the Kids Dodgeball Tournament is Friday, January 31st from 8:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Team captains can pick up the required packets in the main office. Cost will be $10 per player. South Windsor for the Kids will be collecting money and team packets the week of January 27th. For more information please visit the twitter account @swdodgeball20.  

Seniors: Please remind your parents that Congratulatory Ads must be submitted by Friday, January 31st. Please see the Yearbook tab on the SWHS webpage for directions and more information.

Students: It's time to purchase your yearbook! The price is $70 until February 21st. The price will continue to increase through the spring so buy it now! Go to the Yearbook tab on the webpage to place your order. Remember ALL students are featured in the yearbook – it’s not just for seniors.

Any students who missed the fall registration window to receive MCC credit for their College Career Pathways classes at South Windsor High School have a second chance to create a Banner ID. MCC’s registration portal has now re-opened for a limited time until February 20th. This will be your last chance to establish an MCC Banner ID, which is required in order to earn college credits for any MCC articulated classes you take this year and in the future. If you need another step-by-step guide for registration, please see Mr. Leon or Mrs. Carty in School Counseling.

Are you a sophomore thinking about what to take for English next year? You have options! Consider taking Professional Writing and Speaking in the spring. It'll improve your writing skills and give you confidence as a public speaker in high school, college, and beyond.

Attention Bobcat Nation: This year the Town of South Windsor will be celebrating its 175th anniversary. In honor of this milestone, the town’s Anniversary Committee is sponsoring a logo design contest. Show your creativity and pride by submitting your own original design to be considered by the committee. For details, please stop by the main office for a flyer and official rules for the contest.

Seniors: A friendly reminder that the January Capstone presentation waves are right around the corner. Please check in with your adviser, sign up to present using the Google Form located on the Capstone webpage, and complete your written work by TODAY! Any senior who does not present their Capstone on Thursday, January 23rd or Friday, January 24th will have a change made to their second semester schedules. These changes may include loss of lockout and being placed in a structured study hall. If you have any questions or concerns please see Ms. Walsh in room 158 or Mr. Richards in room 163.

The Freshman Class of 2023 will be having a fundraiser at a local bakery and coffee shop on Hemlock Avenue. Please join us from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. TODAY, Friday, January 10th.

If you are considering Emmanuel College, come to the Career Center and meet with a current student who can answer your questions and tell you about attending the college. Mary Kate Harper is a South Windsor High School graduate who is now a senior at Emmanuel, and she will be here Monday, January 13th at 10:00 a.m. hoping to share her experiences with anyone interested in hearing a student perspective.

In connection with the Memorial Day commemoration activities to be held on Monday, May 25th, the South Windsor Patriotic Commission is pleased to announce its annual essay contest. Students in grades 9-12 can submit an essay (500 words or less) on the topic of “An American patriot who inspires me and why.” All entries must be received by the Patriotic Commission no later than Friday, February 28, 2020. The entry form and additional details are available in the SWHS main office, in the Career Center and in your Social Studies classes.

Please check in with your adviser, sign up to present using the Google Form located on the Capstone webpage, and complete your written work by TOMORROW, Friday, January 10th. Any senior who does not present their Capstone on Thursday, January 23rd or Friday, January 24th will have a change made to their second semester schedules. These changes may include loss of lockout and being placed in a structured study hall. If you have any questions or concerns please see Ms. Walsh in room 158 or Mr. Richards in room 163.

Interested in raising money for the American Cancer Society? The Relay for Life Club will hold an information session after school TODAY, Thursday, January 9th in room 143. Please see Mrs. Frasier with any questions. All are welcome.

The Strategy Club will meet after school TODAY, Thursday, January 9th in room 7. We will try again this week to take a yearbook photo.

This is a reminder to all seniors interested in applying for scholarships through Hartford Foundation for Public Giving that the application deadline for their largest pool of scholarships is coming up on Wednesday, January 15th. You can apply at www.HFPGscholarships.org or find the link through the scholarship database in Naviance. One application will allow you to be considered for over 70 scholarships.

Seniors applying to colleges, please note that the last day to submit Academic Records Request forms for applications due January 15th is this Friday, December 20th. Because of the upcoming winter break, the School Counseling office needs this time to process your request in order to meet this deadline.

Attention Seniors: The next opportunity for students to give Capstone presentations is January 23rd and 24th. In advance of this date, students must sign up to reserve a slot to make their presentations. Students will sign up on the Google form that is available under “The Capstone Experience” on the SWHS website. Sign-ups will run through January 10th. In order to present, you must submit your written work to your advisor by January 10th and you must earn a “successful” or higher on all written work. Capstone requirements are detailed on the SWHS website. If you have any questions about the requirements, please contact your advisor. Students who have not signed up by January 10th will have changes made to their second semester schedules. Such changes include, but are not limited to:
-       Being assigned a structured study hall to be used for working on Capstone requirements.
-       Having early release privilege revoked in order to have a structured study hall to be used for working on Capstone requirements.
-       Having electives for semester 2 removed to schedule a structured study hall to be used for working on Capstone requirements.

What if you could help others by eating pizza? Well now you can. Come support FCCLA by going to a local pizza restaurant in Evergreen Walk on Tuesday, January 7th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. All proceeds will support local charities and community service projects.
