The South Windsor Administrator Association is offering 2 scholarships for graduating seniors. Both are $500 and applications are due by noon on June 1. The SWAA Scholarship is given to a graduating senior who has a parent, step parent, grandparent or step grandparent who is a member of the South Windsor Administrator Association. The Perseverance Award is given to a graduating student who has overcome academic, social, or personal challenges during their 4 years of high school. Both scholarships require an online application and an essay. Students can access the application and information through Naviance or the South Windsor High School homepage.

The Boys’ Tennis Team had a close competitive match losing 3-4 against Glastonbury yesterday. Glastonbury is always a tough opponent and the matches were all high quality tennis with good effort by the Bobcats. Winning for South Windsor were #1 Singles Ronnak Saxena and #2 Singles Jack Perry. The match of the day goes to #3 Doubles Jason Rickenbacher & Jonathan Huot who lost the first set 2-6, won the second set 6-3 and went on to win the 3rd set in an epic tiebreak with a score of 16-14. The next match is home today against Avon - please come cheer on the team!

The Boys Tennis Team lost a close match against Tolland 3-4. The matches were close with many of them being decided by tiebreakers. Congrats to singles player Jack Perry and the doubles teams of Sam Kim & Donny Sauer, and Jason Rickenbacher & Jonathan Huot, who won for the Bobcats. The team is determined to win their next match at Glastonbury this Thursday.
Varsity Girls’ Lacrosse defeated Trumbull 10-8 in a great team win. The team moves to 5-2. They will take on Avon away on Friday.

Congratulations to the Girls’ Tennis team for their 5th win this season against RHAM. Outstanding performances came from all the girls, and doubles player Jia Yazon was named MVP for the day! Singles Sophia Chin won with a double bagel, and doubles Jina Lee and Caitlin Sauer with a french fry. The team’s next match is against Simsbury today.
The Boys Tennis Team had a dominant win over Middletown, sweeping all 7 matches in straight sets. Congrats to Singles Players Ronnak Saxena, Jack Perry, Elijah Wood and Rahul Mahesh and Doubles Teams of Sam Kim & Donny Sauer, Andris Reba & Dan Zhu, and Jeeva Shunmugaraja & Neal Shah. Athletic News:
The Girls Track and Field faced Manchester yesterday. Micaela Hanson won the 100 hurdles, Katelyn Maycomber won the high jump and the 4X100 team of Muneeka Munir, Erin Dunn, Candice Walsh and Missy Sullivan won. In addition, Erin Dunn, Rihanna O'Meara, and Katelyn Maycomber qualified for states and many other athletes achieved personal bests.
Varsity Girls Lacrosse defeated hall 11-9 and JV won 7-6. They will take on Cheshire at home on Thursday.
The Girls’ Tennis team had an amazing match yesterday, beating Farmington 7-0. Standout performances came from doubles Rebecca Kenefick and Ananya Srivatsav winning in a tie breaker. Singles players Heather Kim and Sophia Chin had close matches and came out with a win! The girls’ tennis team continues to hold an undefeated record.

The month of April has been designated as the Month of the Military Child or “Purple Up! For Military Kids” in Connecticut. Help celebrate the important role of military-connected children by wearing the color purple tomorrow, Wednesday, April 24.
April is also Autism Awareness month. Please wear blue on Thursday, April 25 and bring in $1 to donate to Autism Families Connecticut.

Day Pitney, a Hartford law firm, is offering a paid summer internship program for sophomore and junior students from minority backgrounds who are interested in gaining corporate or law experience. Qualified and interested students can get more information and an application from the Career Center.
Attention all sophomores looking for an outstanding leadership opportunity. RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) is a free 1-day leadership program at Springfield College taking place on Saturday, June 1 from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. At this experience, high school sophomores from the area join together to complete team-building exercises that focus on what it takes to successfully lead others. If interested, please stop by School Counseling and pick up an application. The application is due Friday, April 26.
For any students applying to the William L. Perry Scholarship, please remember that the deadline is Friday, April 26 and applications need to be returned to the Career Center. South Windsor High School students can also consider applying to the Marcella Masinda Scholarship. This scholarship is only for a student graduating from SWHS who has demonstrated efforts to improve society through civic and social activities. This scholarship is essay based and can be renewable for four years if the recipient remains in good academic standing. Applications for the Masinda Scholarship are due Friday, May 3.
For students taking UConn ECE classes next year, there will be a mandatory application assembly on Monday, April 29 at 7:45 am in the Auditorium. Next year’s ECE Courses are Marine Science, Environmental Science, AP Physics 1, Modern Western Traditions, AP Economics, Latin IV, Classical Mythology, and Seminar in Writing. Please see your Counselor with any questions.

The Career Center will host two visits tomorrow. Suffolk University will have a representative here at 10:45 am and there will be a recruiter from the United States Navy here at 12:00 pm. Please sign up in Naviance and see Mrs. Carty for a pass if you would like to attend these visits.
