SCHOOL NEWS:

The Class of 2026 will have a fundraiser at a local Mexican restaurant at 48 Hale Road, Manchester on Tuesday, March 7th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Attention Seniors who missed their scheduled language testing for the Seal of Biliteracy: 
Please attend the makeup session this Monday March 6th at 11:30 a.m. in Room 233 if you would like to pursue the Seal.

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:  
 
Did you know that the amount of funding an animal shelter receives directly impacts the number of animals they can help? Help us help animals by donating your spare change during lunch waves from March 6th thru March 10th. Funds raised will benefit Pack Leaders Rescue of East Hartford.

Join the Interact Club’s ”Cooking for a Cause” committee at a local ice cream shop in Evergreen Walk on March 6th from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Proceeds will be used to purchase food which the committee will cook and donate to the South Park Inn, a local shelter. 
                                                                                                        
Join Interact Club at a local ice cream shop in Evergreen walk on March 6th from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. to raise money for South Park Inn, a homeless shelter in Hartford. A portion of all proceeds will help us raise money to purchase food for the shelter. 

FBLA is selling shamrocks for $1 to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Each shamrock will be displayed with your name in the FBLA showcase. Purchase a shamrock or make a donation from March 6th thru March 10th.

Interact Club will host a food drive on March 4th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the grocery store located at 4 corners. All donations will go to local families through the SW Food and Fuel Bank.

The National Honor Society's prom dress committee will be holding a fundraiser from 3/1 until 4/1. Please bring in any and all gently used prom dresses, jewelry, and shoes to the bin in front of the main office. All items will be donated to Cornerstone Donation Center in Vernon. Please contact Ms. Farrell with any questions.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER:

An important scholarship reminder to 12th grade students that the deadline for the South Windsor Dollars for Scholars program is less than 2 weeks away! If you have not yet started an application, do not wait any longer – it takes time to complete it accurately. If you have started your application, be sure you have completed ALL sections and check your e-mail frequently for any messages from the local volunteer who makes sure applications are complete. She may have sent you important information about your application status. Keep checking Naviance for other upcoming scholarship opportunities such as the UConn ECE scholarship and the Isidore Wise scholarship for former CCMC patients.

ATHLETICS:  

All students interested in trying out for the baseball team should attend an informational meeting Tuesday, March 7th after school in Room 161. Any questions, please see Mr. D'Amato.

Spring sports registration is open in Powerschool. If you plan on playing a Spring sport, be advised that all registration material is due by March 9th. The 3 items you must submit are (1) Powerschool online registration, (2) Payment of $125 in the form of cash, check or online using www.myschoolbucks.com, and (3) A current Physician Statement dated AFTER  June 1, 2022. Please note that if you submitted a physician statement for a previous sport in the 22-23 school year, you do not need to resubmit one. Your registration is INCOMPLETE until all 3 of these items are submitted to the main office. Registration deadline is March 9th. Registrations submitted after March 9th are not guaranteed to be processed in time for tryouts. Contact the main office with any questions. Timothy Edwards Middle School ENTERTAINERS proudly presents - Matilda The Musical JR. on the following dates: March 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 2023. General Admission is $10 for students & adults and $5 Seniors (65 & older) and children 5 & younger. Tickets on sale beginning Monday, February 20th at TEMS. March 3rd is the last day to drop off your items for the electronic recycling competition. Items like chargers, computers, ipods, radios, digital cameras etc can be dropped off in the orange bins placed in various Science teachers’ Rooms. This is a competition between classes and the winning class will earn $150 to be used towards major school events.  Freshmen can drop off items to Mrs. Eitel (Room 206). Sophomores can drop off to Mrs. Davies (Room 212), Juniors to Mrs. Howard (Room 250), and Seniors to Mrs. Field (Room 202).

The South Windsor Patriotic Commission essay contest deadline is tomorrow, March 3, 2023. Prizes are awarded for the winner of each grade level band.  Please see your Social Studies teacher or email Mrs. Slogesky, Social Studies Curriculum Specialist, for the contest flier, entry form and additional information, [email protected]. In about four weeks, Japan will be filled with blooming Sakura (Sa-ku-RAH), transforming the whole country into a sea of Spring colors.  The Cherry Blossom Festival draws in around 63 million tourists each year. On THURSDAY, March 2nd, the Japanese Club will be making our own Sakura  (Sa-ku-RAH) decorations for our display case. All are welcome to participate and watch anime in room 230 p.m. right after school.

The Class of 2025 is having a fundraiser at a local tavern restaurant located on Evergreen Way on March 1st from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:  

Please join us for our next Italian Club meeting right after school on Wednesday, March 1st in Room 226. We will be watching a movie and having snacks.  Everyone is welcome!

There has been a change in the date for the SWHS boy's lacrosse meeting. SCHOOL NEWS:

In honor of Black History Month, the Black Student Alliance will be hosting a Black Excellence Panel on March 1, 2023 at 2:10 p.m. in the Cafeteria. The panel will consist of black professionals from various cultural and career backgrounds. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions of professionals that are trailblazers in their careers. The discussion will center around overcoming barriers that may try to stifle your success, financial and personal advice to encourage all students to succeed. All are welcome to join the discussion. Snacks will be provided. Please contact President Nafissa Ly or Vice President Lota Onyia, Mrs. Bravo, Mrs. Davis, or Ms. Mwangi for more information. We hope to see you there!

Items like chargers, computers, ipods, radios, digital cameras etc can be dropped off in the orange bins placed in various Science teachers’ rooms. This is a competition between classes and the winning class will earn $150 to be used towards major school events.  Freshmen can drop off items to Mrs. Eitel (Room 206). Sophomores can drop off to Mrs. Davies (Room 212), Juniors to Mrs. Howard (Room 250), and Seniors to Mrs. Field (Room 202). We will be collecting items from February 20th to March 3rd. A list of acceptable items is attached to the posters that have been hung around the school. Contact Mrs. Eitel by email or in person with any questions.

The Varsity Girls Basketball Team will host Bristol Eastern in a 1st round state tournament game this Monday, February 27th at 6:30 p.m.Tickets are available for purchase online only on the CIAC website under the Tournament Central tab. *When purchasing an online ticket DO NOT ACTIVATE the ticket until someone at the game entrance on Monday does that for you or your ticket will be invalid.  Screenshots of tickets will not be accepted.
Ticket prices are as follows:
Students (grades 1-12) $5.00 
Adults $10.00
Children Five (5) and Under $5.00
Free Military in uniform or with I.D.
Free Senior Citizens (age 65 and older)

The meeting will end at 3:45 p.m. If you are not able to attend this meeting please find the sign-up sheet in the Main office and leave your contact information.

The South Windsor Patriotic Commission has announced their annual essay contest. The contest features essay topics for different grade levels. All entries must be received by the Patriotic Commission no later than March 3, 2023. Anyone interested in trying out for South Windsor High School's Boys Varsity Golf Team this spring should attend the mandatory meeting on Thursday, February 23rd, after school from 2:10 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Room 168. Please see Mr. Gray in Room 168 for any additional information.

Spring sports registration is now open in Powerschool. If you plan on playing a Spring sport, be advised that all registration material is due by March 9th.  The 3 items you must submit are (1) Powerschool online registration, (2) Payment of $125 in the form of cash, check or online using www.myschoolbucks.com, and (3) A current Physician Statement dated AFTER  June 1, 2022. Please note that if you submitted a physician statement for a previous sport in the 22-23 school year, you do not need to resubmit one.  Your registration is INCOMPLETE until all 3 of these items are submitted to the main office. Registration deadline is March 9th. Registrations submitted after March 9th are not guaranteed to be processed in time for tryouts. Contact the main office with any questions. SCHOOL NEWS:

The Class of 2026 will host a fundraiser at a  local pastry and sandwich shop located at 100 Hemlock Avenue on Friday, February 24th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

SWHS is partnering with the town to host an electronic recycling competition. Items like chargers, computers, ipods, radios, digital cameras etc can be dropped off in the orange bins placed in various science teachers’ rooms. This is a competition between classes and the winning class will earn $150 to be used towards major school events.  Freshmen can drop off items to Mrs. Eitel (Room 206). Sophomores can drop off to  Mrs. Davies (Room 212), Juniors to Mrs. Howard (Room 250), and Seniors to Mrs. Field (Room 202). We will be collecting items from February 20th to March 3rd. A list of acceptable items is attached to the posters that have been hung around the school. Contact Mrs. Eitel by email or in person with any questions. 

Don't miss your opportunity to audition for the 2023-2024 edition of the award winning South Windsor High School Show Choir Choral Spectrum. These are open auditions, so no experience is necessary! FBLA invites you to its annual 3 v 3 basketball tournament on March 17th at 2:25 p.m. in the Gym. The cost is $30 per team, with proceeds going to Make a Wish Foundation. Sign up during lunch waves or in Room 225 from February 27th to March 15th

Join the Interact Club’s ”Cooking for a Cause” committee at a local ice cream shop in Evergreen Walk on March 6th from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Proceeds will be used to purchase food which the committee will cook and donate to the South Park Inn, a local shelter.

If you are a college-bound Senior and have not yet started an application, now is the time to begin. This scholarship application offers access to approximately 50 scholarships that are given only to students who live or attend school in South Windsor.
