SCHOOL NEWS:

Attention Juniors! Class of 2024 Spirit wear T-Shirts are available for purchase in the spirit wear store. T-shirts cost $15 and all orders are due by Friday, October 14th. T-Shirts will be available for pickup on Friday, October 21st.

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:

On Thursday, October 20th, the Japanese club will be making authentic Onigiri, a seaweed, rice snack with a sesame seed topping. We will meet at 2:10 pm in the student kitchen on the first floor. 
 
The Strategy Club will meet after school on Wednesday, October 12 at 2 pm in the back of the Media Center.  Stop by and enjoy a selection of board games and card games with us.

Anyone who needs Bus transportation to the Bowling club today should get a bus pass from Mrs. Balducci by the Main Office.

                                                                                             The Class of 2025 is hosting a fundraiser at a local burger restaurant at 360 Buckland Hills Drive on October 17th from 5pm-9pm. Stop by to support the class and enjoy a great meal.

The Senior Class is partnering with South Windsor Panthers Football on Saturday, October 15th from 1pm-9pm. Come to Rye Street Park to volunteer and watch the games. 10% of the proceeds will go towards the Senior Class.
 
CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:

Would you like to do community service and help provide safe and clean water for villages in Sub-Saharan Africa? Then join the Water Launch Club. Sign up using our Google Classroom code igygbt4. Our first meeting will be later in October.
 
ATHLETICS:

Join SWHS Field Hockey for its yearly Pink Out Home Game today, October 11th at 3:30pm. Bake sale proceeds will benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation and raffle proceeds will benefit the Booster Club.

Unified for Underprivileged Girls is hosting its first fundraiser of the year. Come enjoy delicious food at a local soup and bread shop at 100 Hemlock Avenue in South Windsor on October 7th from 4-8 pm  and help raise money for underprivileged girls in Kenya. 
 
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER: 

Next week’s college visits to the South Windsor High School will be University of Pittsburgh, Boston University, Wagner College, Albertus Magnus College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Yale University, Landmark College, College of the Holy Cross, and Saint Anselm College. Please sign up in Naviance if you plan to attend. Most visits will take place in the Career Center. Signs will be posted if the visit is moved to another location.

Last call for Junior or Senior students interested in attending the United States Senate Youth Program! If you would like to be considered for a school nomination, submit a resume that outlines your involvement and leadership to Mrs. Carty in the Career Center by the end of the school day on Tuesday, October 11th. Two students from Connecticut will ultimately be selected to attend the Washington Week in March.

Two students from Connecticut will ultimately be selected to attend the Washington Week in March. In order to be eligible, students must not have previously attended the program and must be an elected officer of a schoolwide or statewide organization or a student representative selected by a panel, commission, regional or state-level civic or educational organization. Come to the Career Center to indicate your interest, ask any questions, and find out how you can apply to be a SWHS nominee.

This week’s college visits will be from University of Delaware, University of Hartford, Rollins College, University of Connecticut, Seton Hall University, Endicott College, New York University, and Salem State University. The first wave of Capstone presentations is right around the corner, on Wednesday October 12th during the PSAT block. In order to present in this wave, you must have all written work submitted to your adviser’s Google Classroom by Monday October 3rd. All of your work must receive a score of successful or highly successful. You will sign up to present by filling out a Google Form that will be posted on the Capstone Website. A schedule with presentation times and room assignments will be posted on the Capstone Website by Friday October 7th. Students who present during this wave are eligible for an honor cord.

Interact Club’s first meeting is today, September 29th at 2:05pm in the back of the Media Center. Attendance is mandatory. New members are welcome. If you have questions, please see Mrs. Howard in Room 134.
 
Academic Support Club meets every Monday through Thursday, from 2pm to 3:30pm in Room 122A. If you need help with your homework, please join! We will have NHS tutors there to help you each day. We will provide a drink and a snack. There are late buses on these days except Tuesdays. See Mrs. Barrett if you have any questions!

Join the SWHS Gymnastics Team! The pre-season meeting will be Friday, September 30th at 6:30pm in Room 102 at SWHS. Any student athlete interested in learning more about the team, requirements and the schedule for this year is welcome! Parents are also welcome at this meeting. Tickets for the South Windsor High School Varsity Football game this Friday @ Manchester High School are available for purchase online. Go to the SWHS Athletic Website home page for this link to purchase tickets through Go Fan. A reminder not to activate your tickets until Manchester personnel does this for you at the ticket gate or it will non-validate your ticket. All students must have their school ID with them as well.

The Aviators will explore different paths in the aviation industry and take trips to Hartford Brainard airport. Join the SWHS Gymnastics Team! The pre-season meeting will be Friday, September 30th at 6:30pm in Room 102 at SWHS. Any student athlete interested in learning more about the team, requirements and the schedule for this year is welcome! Parents are also welcome at this meeting. Tickets for the South Windsor High School Varsity Football game this Friday @ Manchester High School are available for purchase online. Go to the SWHS Athletic Website home page for this link to purchase tickets through Go Fan. A reminder not to activate your tickets until Manchester personnel does this for you at the ticket gate or it will non-validate your ticket. All students must have their school ID with them as well.

If you missed the in person voter registration drive last week, here is some additional information about registering to vote on-line in CT. Online registration can be found here: 
Step 1: Go to the Secretary of the State website: https://portal.ct.gov/SOTS 
Step 2: Click on Elections and Voting
Step 3: Click on Register to Vote or Update Your Registration Online; then continue until finished.

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:

Academic Support Club meets every Monday through Thursday, from 2pm to 3:30pm in Room 122A. If you need help with your homework, please join! We will have NHS tutors there to help you each day. We will provide a drink and a snack. There are late buses on these days except Tuesdays. See Mrs. Barrett if you have any questions!

All  students, new or returning, interested in joining the Science Olympiad team at SWHS need to complete the informational survey posted on our Club Google Classroom. Stay tuned for more information about tryouts.
 
Are you interested in helping others make good choices? Are you looking for a club that plans activities like safe driving programs, alcohol /drug prevention awareness and stress reduction programs? Rho Kappa application now available: Rho Kappa, The National Social Studies Honor Society, is currently inviting eligible Juniors and Seniors to apply for this opportunity. This week in the Career Center we will have visits from the following colleges: Springfield College, Xavier University, Salve Regina University, Goodwin University, Lasell University, High Point University, Southern Connecticut State University, Bryant University, and SUNY College at Oswego. Also, Seniors are reminded that there are College application and essay workshops 8th period and after school on Wednesday, September 28th and after school on Thursday, September 29th.
