The Drug Free Committee is hosting the 6th Annual Volleyball Marathon on Friday, March 1 from 6:00 pm to 1:30 am. Get a team of 8-10 players and grab a packet during lunch waves. There will be food, drinks and raffle prizes.

The Japanese Club will meet on Wednesday, February 27 after school in room 230. Learn some Japanese, watch anime and eat some Japanese food.

The Anti-Stress Club is sponsoring a Ping Pong tournament on Thursday, March 7 for testicular cancer awareness. Entrance fee is $5 and the winner will get a special prize.

Bobcat Robotics will host a Pasta Dinner and Teacup Raffle on Saturday, March 2 at 5:00 pm in the Cafeteria. Prizes include tickets to local attractions, restaurant gift cards, and so much more! Come support Bobcat Robotics in our mission to win a third world championship. Tickets will be $5 if you buy ahead of time and will be sold during lunch waves.

Seniors: The Dollars for Scholars portal will close on Friday, March 15. While many of you have started applications, a large portion of you have not reached full applicant status. Come to School Counseling or the Career Center if you need help with your application. Don’t forget about the numerous other scholarship opportunities in Naviance. There are a few scholarships due before the end of this month and many more coming up with March deadlines.

SWHS will host a Blood Drive on Wednesday, March 6. Your donation could save up to two lives! Please sign-up by filling out the form posted on the Senior Google classroom, or online on the American Red Cross website. See Mrs. Belval in room 204 with any questions.

There will be a brief meeting on Wednesday, February 27 from 2:05 - 2:20 pm in room 233 for all students involved in the Travel Club Fundraising Group. Please see Sra. Ruiz if you can't attend.

Have you always wanted to eat a burrito AND support your favorite robotics team at the same time? Have some chips and guac and support Bobcat Robotics at your Local Tex-Mex restaurant (on Hale Rd in Manchester) TONIGHT! Mention our team to the cashier and 33% of the proceeds will go to supporting the team!

There will be a Student Council meeting Wednesday, February 27 after school in room 163. We will be planning for trivia night. Please attend.

Athletic News:

All athletes interested in Spring Sports must complete the athletic registration online and submit their physician’s statement and pay for play fee to the main office by Monday, March 4 in order to participate on the first day of tryouts on Saturday, March 16. Athletes that competed this fall or winter in a sport who are interested in a spring sport should notify one of the office secretaries, Ms. Zaino or Ms. Mulcahy, of this intent so your paperwork can be rolled over to that spring sport. These athletes must also submit their physician’s statement and pay for play fee to the main office by Monday, March 4.

Tuesday, February 26 at 2:10 pm in the cafe will be the last day for winter athletes to take the athletic survey. Any winter athlete who has not already taken this survey is encouraged to attend. Athletes should bring a smart phone or their chrome book to take this survey which takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Any girls interested in playing Spring Lacrosse – there will be a meeting TODAY, Monday, February 25 at 2:10 pm in room 152.

There will be a brief informational meeting for anyone interested in trying out for the Boys Golf team on Thursday, February 28 after school in room 168. Please see Coach Gray in the event you cannot attend this meeting.

A representative from a gap year program called Rustic Pathways will be visiting the Career Center today at 10:00 am. If you have thought about taking time after high school to travel and pursue meaningful community service before moving forward with your other educational or career goals, this is a great opportunity to learn about how one of these programs works. If you are interested in attending, please check in with your 4th period teacher and then come to the Career Center with a pass signed.

Our menu features French toasts with strawberry sauce, tater tot casserole, sausage gravy and biscuits, cheesecake-stuffed strawberries, chocolate pudding, and more! Bring $5 to Ms. Cliff or Sra. Ruiz as soon as possible to reserve your spot in the kitchen.  

For students in grades 9-11, the PowerSchool Course Selection Portal is open until Monday, February 25. Please log into PowerSchool and select your courses for next year. Please see your School Counselor with any questions.

Bristol Technical Education Center will hold an Open House on Thursday, March 7 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Current 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students are invited to attend and explore their interests in Bristol Tech’s career and technical programs including Precision Machining, Culinary Arts, Electronics, Automotive, HVAC and Welding. There is a flyer in the Career Center or for more information go to bristol.cttech.org.

Did you know that we have two different AP computer science classes? AP Mobile CSP is a super fun class where you program mobile apps, learn about big data and the internet, discuss cryptography and cyber security, and explore the ways technology influences our culture and economy. AP Computer Science is an introduction java programming, algorithms, and data for students with a B- in an honors math class or AP Mobile CSP. See Mrs. Lang in room 9 for more details.

The South Windsor Patriotic Commission Annual Memorial Day Student Essay Contest is underway for 2019. Essay topics and awards are determined by grade level. Students in grades K through 12 may participate in the contest. Entry forms with full details are available in the Career Center. The contest ends on February 28.

If you are currently enrolled in a MCC/CCP eligible class, whether it is a Semester 2 class or a full-year class, please make sure you have established a Banner ID with Manchester Community College by TODAY, Friday, February 8. If you previously registered for a Banner ID, either during the fall enrollment period or during a previous school year, then you are all set. This reminder is only for students who have never established a Banner ID and wish to receive credit for classes taken during the 2018-2019 school year.

Students interested in applying to participate in the Connecticut American Legion Boys State should see Dr. LaRochelle in School Counseling.

All students who signed up to take the American Mathematics Competition, the AMC 10 or AMC 12, should report directly to the Cafeteria tomorrow morning at 7:25 am. Do not report to your first period class. You will remain in the Cafeteria for the exam for periods 1 and 2. Please bring a number 2 pencil. Scratch paper and graph paper will be provided. Also allowed are rulers, compasses, protractors, and erasers. No calculators are allowed. In the event that there is a delay, the AMC will still happen; please report to the cafeteria at the start of the school day, and the exam will run first through third period. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Brindisi in Room 265.
