The Bobcat Bowling Club is back! There will be a brief meeting after school on Tuesday, January 15 in room 168 for anyone interested in joining session 2 of the Bobcat Bowling Club. Applications will be available at the meeting.

Students who took the ASVAB exam are invited to a test interpretation session on Tuesday, January 15 at noon in the Seminar Room. Students should see Dr. LaRochelle in School Counseling prior to this session.

On Thursday, January 10 at 6:00 pm, Conard High School will host the annual USA Gap Year Fair. The program will begin in the auditorium with a presentation about Gap Year programs by a Gap Year Coordinator and Alumni, and will be followed by the fair in the cafeteria. For students interested in applying for scholarships through the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, this is a reminder that the deadline for the biggest pool of scholarships is January 15. If you haven’t already started your application, please do so as soon as possible as it takes some time to complete. If you have any trouble accessing the application portal, come to the Career Center for support.

A student representative from the admissions office of Emmanuel College will be here Monday, January 7 at 11:30 am to speak to any students interested in knowing more about attending Emmanuel College. The visit is posted in Naviance. Please sign up and see Mrs. Carty for a pass to attend.

Yoga Club will meet Monday, January 7 at 2:15 pm in the Chorus room. Everyone is welcome. See Ms. Lane in room 6 with any questions.

Looking for a contemporary fiction novel to read this weekend? The Book Club will be reading Made You Up by Francesca Zappia and will meet on Thursday, January 10 to discuss. New members are welcome! For more information, see Mrs. Busa in Room 100.

Seniors: The deadline for submitting written work for Capstone has been updated and you may now turn in your written work to your adviser on or before Monday, January 7. Please note you must turn in written work by this deadline to be eligible to present on January 17. Please touch base with your adviser now that we are back from break.

There will be an FBLA meeting after school today, Thursday, January 3 in room 126. See you there.

Seniors please note that if you have January 15 deadlines for college applications, TODAY, Friday, December 21 is the last day to complete transcript request forms. Come to School Counseling as soon as possible if you need your transcripts ready.

If you are a freshman going on the To Kill A Mockingbird / New York City Field Trip on Wednesday, January 2, be sure to dress warmly and be in the lobby for 7:25 am on that Wednesday, which is our first day back from break. See Mrs. White in 144 if you have questions.

There will be no FBLA meeting today, Thursday, December 20. There are no late buses so we are canceling the meeting. 

Mind's Eye will be hosting an Open-Mic Coffeehouse tonight, December 20 from 6:00 -8:00 pm in the SWHS Library Media Center. Come enjoy music, poetry, and other original work. All are welcome.

It’s Holiday Spirit Week! Tomorrow, December 21 is Pajama Day and don’t forget, it’s a 1/2 day to start the holiday break.

Looking for a contemporary fiction novel to read over break? The Book Club will be reading Made You Up by Francesca Zappia and will meet on Monday, January 10 to discuss. New members are welcome! For more information, see Mrs. Busa in Room 100. 

The Science Fiction/Fantasy Club will hold its next meeting today, December 20 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm in room 127. Join us to work on your own creative writing. We will also take our club picture for the yearbook at this meeting.

The Coolidge Scholarship program is open for this year. This highly selective scholarship is for JUNIORS only. If selected, recipients will receive a full-ride scholarship for four years of undergraduate study to any American college or university. The application deadline is Wednesday, January 23. Information can be found in Naviance or at www.CoolidgeScholars.org

The next wave of capstone presentations will be on January 17. All written work must be turned in to your adviser on or before Friday, January 4. If you do not present and pass capstone in January you could then be placed in a structured study hall during second semester to help you complete your capstone work. This change in schedule could mean your early release privilege is revoked. Please touch base with your adviser prior to the break. A checklist is posted on the Senior Capstone website to aid you in finishing your project.

Ryan Belekewicz will be hosting a fundraiser for his Eagle project at a local sandwich shop on Sullivan Avenue today, December 20 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. His project is to build a gazebo over the reflection area at the Bob King Memorial Woods, near Wapping Cemetery. Please come out to grab a bite to eat to support the project!

Big Sky Fitness in Vernon is looking for swim instructors for weekday evening shifts and some weekends. Applicants must be at least 16, certified lifeguards, and have some experience teaching swim lessons. If you are interested in applying please see the flyer on the Career Center bulletin board.

Ruiz to reserve your spot!

There will be a member of the United States Marines here today at 1:00 pm to discuss the NROTC Scholarship program. NROTC stands for Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps. If you are interested in finding out how this type of military scholarship can help pay for your college education, sign up in Naviance to attend this visit. It is listed under College Visits as NROTC Scholarship.

Additionally, there will be drop-in hours in the Career Center all day on Wednesday and Thursday, December 19 and 20. Counselors will be available to help you understand the scholarship process better. No appointments are needed. Come during any free periods or your lunch wave.

Today is SADD Makes You Happy Day! The SADD Club would like to encourage you to share kindness today in honor of the victims of Sandy Hook. Please take time to thank someone that you appreciate or give a kind word to someone new. We hope that you enjoyed the treats, candy canes, music, flowers and notes around the school.
