SCHOOL NEWS: 

 

Please attend the Class of 2027 fundraiser at Playa Bowls on March 20th from 5-8pm.

 

Come get free snacks and help save three lives THIS FRIDAY by signing up to donate blood! To sign up, scan the QR code on the posters around school, or talk to the volunteers that are available during all lunch waves this week. We will also take walk-ins on Friday 3/21. You must be 17 or older, or 16 with a parent permission slip to donate. See Ms. Karasinski in Room 207 for more information.

 

On March 15, Choral Spectrum, Spectrum Band, and Spectrum Stage Crew traveled to Bishop Henricken High School in Rhode Island to compete in the annual "Lil Rhody Rumble" Show Choir Competition. The group was awarded a gold medal and placed fourth overall in a packed festival with over 22 competing choirs. Spectrum Stage Crew was also awarded the "Best Crew" caption at the festival. Congratulations to everyone involved!

 

Are you working on your senior thesis? Stop by the Writing Center to get feedback! We're open Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays from 2-3 pm in room 125 and 122B. Trained writing tutors and an English teacher are ready to help you submit your best writing!

 

Calling Seniors who have taken multiple art classes!

The Senior Art Exhibition is happening soon - this is your opportunity to show your artwork and qualify for an Art Honor Cord! Join the Google Classroom with the code: vaq5ru3 to learn the Guidelines and Judging Criteria and to fill out the application. If you are interested in earning an honor cord in art, you MUST participate in the judged section of this Senior Art Exhibition. There is a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, April 2nd and applications are due April 11th - If you have any questions, be sure to reach out to an art teacher so we can help!

 

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES: 

 

In celebration of Women’s History Month, we will have a scavenger hunt on Thursday, March 20 in the Cafeteria from 2:15-3:15! You will have the opportunity to learn about influential women in our local community and an opportunity to win prizes. The first three people to successfully complete the Scavenger Hunt will win prizes! 

 

Get ready for an unforgettable Student Council hosted Trivia Night on Friday, April 4th, from 6 to 8 PM! Gather your friends or teachers and form a team of 5—it's only $5 per person to join the fun! Test your knowledge, win raffles, enjoy FREE FOOD, and compete for a grand prize! Don’t miss out on this fun-filled night of friendly competition and great vibes. Sign ups will begin on 3/27 and end on 4/4.

 

Do you need help with SAT prep? Mu Alpha Theta and National English Honor Society will be hosting SAT tutoring sessions from 2:15pm to 3:15pm beginning Monday, March 10th in the back of the Library Media Center. These sessions will be held weekly leading up to the SAT.

 

The Cooking Club will be celebrating a twist on Saint Paddy's Day on Thursday, March 20th in Room 105 at the High School from 2:05 PM-4:00 PM. We will be making: Shamrock Shakes, Broccoli Cheese Soup, Irish Grilled Cheese with Pastrami, Stuffed Cabbage Rolls, Saint Patrick's Day, Over The Rainbow Cupcakes and Saint Patrick's Day White Chip Cookies. Please bring $5 to Sra. Ruiz in Annex Room 56 or to Sra. Hwang in Annex Room 37.  

 

The Outing Club will be hiking Wadsworth Falls State Park on Saturday, April 5th. Please print the permission slip or stop by Room 254 & 264 to pick one up. Permission slips and payment are due March 26th to Ms. Andrews (264) or Mrs. Lynch (254). See us with any questions.

 

Did you know that the graduation lawn signs for seniors are still only $20 each?? Order today by completing the form (found on the SWHS homepage) and either returning it to the Counseling Office or mailing it in. All orders are due by Tuesday, April 8th. 

 

Make A Change mini grants are for STUDENTS! This is your opportunity to make a positive change. More details and links are on the high school main page. You have the power to make a difference!

 

The Environmental Club is hosting a Trees for a Change fundraiser. Have a tree planted in your name at a National Park! Each tree is $15. Money raised will benefit wildlife that has been impacted by the L.A wildfires. See Mrs. Eitel for details. 

 

ATHLETICS:

 

Anyone interested in being a manager for the girls outdoor Track and Field team should come see Coach McCullough in room 127 by Wednesday.
