November is Native American Heritage Month. This month gives us an opportunity to reflect, honor, and celebrate our Native Americans and indigenous peoples. It is important to explore their diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and acknowledge the important contributions during November and throughout the year. Locally, “members of the First Nation, commonly known as the Podunk tribe, flourished on the banks of the Connecticut River and its interiors, in the towns now known as South Windsor (Wood Memorial Library & Museum).”

November 11, 2020 marks Veterans Day. Veterans Day occurs every year in the United States in honor of the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918 that signaled the end of World War I, known as Armistice Day. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. We take this opportunity each year to thank and honor those that have served our country. This year students will be viewing a virtual Veterans Day ceremony in all Social Studies classes on November 12th. Additionally, we have been able to record interviews with Veterans in our community, representatives from the Patriotic Commission and American Legion. These stories will be shared with students in Social Studies classes on November 12th as well. Thank you to all Veterans for their service and sacrifice!

The Black Student Alliance will meet TODAY, Thursday, November 12th at 2:30 p.m. using the Meet link on our Google Classroom page. We'll be taking a solemn look back at the violent and heartbreaking events earlier this year that led to massive social unrest and protests, from SW to all over the world. Join us and share your stories. Everyone is welcome. Questions: see Ms. Cliff in room 133.
