Friendly Reminder: Thursday, May 20th is the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Testing Day for 11th graders. Eleventh graders should arrive by 7:15 a.m. and bring a charged chromebook and chromebook charger to the test. ALL other students will have a late arrival and should arrive at school by 10:05 a.m. Dismissal is at 2:00 p.m. Any seniors who are not attending the Senior Outing are expected to attend class as well. For more information please see the website under Messages from the Principal.

Juniors! It’s time to get your Capstone Project thought process rolling. Please have your Capstone Proposal submitted to your adviser by Friday, May 28th. If you have any questions, please see the Capstone page on the SWHS website or check in with your adviser.

The William L. Perry scholarship is awarded to South Windsor High School graduating seniors who have a record of outstanding leadership and have successfully studied a rigorous course load. Applications are due TODAY. Please search for the scholarship in Naviance or contact Mrs. Carty if you need help finding it.

There are several job postings for part-time or summer work available to students who are at least 16 years of age. The Red Cabin Restaurant is hiring both a dishwasher and a busser/food runner, Channel 3 Kids Camp is looking for 18 year old or older students interested in working with kids in its summer program, Six Flags, Lowe’s and LAZ Parking have all been looking for help recently. Stop by the Career Center to get application information on jobs that might interest you.
 
ATHLETIC NEWS:

On Tuesday, Girls Track and Field won their meet against Enfield. First place finishes went to 4X800 team Rhianna O'Meara, Grace Smith, Katelyn Drenga, and Cora Brownbill, Kaitlyn Dempsky in the mile, Grace Smith in the two mile and 800, Maddie Hathorn in pole vault, Bridget Carroll in Triple jump, Abby Wiener in javelin, Sarah Cadman in discus, and Sophia McCormack in shot put.

ATHLETIC NEWS:
The Boys Tennis Team continued their win streak with a 6-1 victory over East Hartford. Winning for the Bobcats were Jonathan Huot and Rahul Mahesh, Matthew Chin and Kevin Joseph at Singles and Vrisha Murali & Anthony Chen and Sri Sripada and Trinay Hariharan at Doubles. The team has clinched a spot in the State Tournament and their next goal is to win their division in the CCC! The next match is Monday May 17th at Manchester.

Boys Tennis continued their winning streak with a decisive victory against Rocky Hill by a score of 7-0. Winning for Bobcats were Jonathan Huot, Rahul Mahesh and Jack Kronenwetter and Matthew Chin in Singles and Vrishab Murali & Anthony Chen and Sri Sripada & Trinyan Harrihan in Doubles. Our next match is Wednesday, May 12th vs. East Hartford at home. The team now has a record of 7 wins and 4 losses which qualifies the team for CIAC State Tournament - Well Done Bobcats!

The Boys Tennis Team got back on the winning track after 4 tough matches with a win over Enfield/Somers Co-Op by a score of 5-2. Winning for the Bobcats were Rahul Mahesh and Kevin Joseph in Singles and Vrishab Murali & Anthony Chen in Doubles. Enfield/Somers defaulted their #2 & #3 Doubles. The Bobcats next match is Tuesday, May 11th vs. Rocky Hill at home. Congrats to the team for their win!

Curtain Up! The fully digital South Windsor High School musical production, "Pandemonium 2020," will premiere TONIGHT at 7:00 p.m.! Hispanic and LatinE Club focuses on elevating and celebrating all of the different Hispanic and LatinE cultures through open discussions, open mics, our website, articles, and more! The Freshmen Class of 2024 is having a fundraiser at a frozen yogurt shop located at 1500 Pleasant Valley Road TONIGHT, Friday, May 7th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Be sure to mention the SWHS Class of 2024 when purchasing!

If you are interested in presenting your culture please join the google classroom using this code: esqjo2w or contact Ana Norato, Caroline Hegi or Mr. Stead. We will be holding an informational meeting so stay tuned. 

Seniors who have not yet completed Capstone are in danger of being unable to attend Senior Outing. There is a mandatory workshop being held this Friday, May 7th to aid you in finishing this graduation requirement. It will take place in room 132 for students attending in person.  Full distance learners will attend online via Google Meet. Students will be scheduled for a workshop during their early release, study hall, or may be excused from classes depending on their individual class schedule. You will be informed of when you are to attend the workshop through Google Classroom and your school email. To be eligible to attend Senior Outing, the written portion of Capstone must be turned into Google Classroom by May 13th. After you have completed the written components, your presentation will be scheduled. Capstone requirements are detailed on the Capstone Google Classroom. If you have any questions about the requirements, please contact the Capstone Coordinators at [email protected]

The William L Perry Scholarship, which is awarded to seniors who have exhibited outstanding leadership, while maintaining a rigorous course load, and strong academic performance. Applicants must show a record of participation in high commitment activities such as athletics, music or drama, while also being active leaders in service clubs or student government. This is a great opportunity for students who meet the criteria as it is for SWHS students ONLY. You must apply by May 14th. The application is linked to the scholarship listing in Naviance. Please contact Mrs. Carty if you have any questions or to submit your application.

They are hosting an on-site Summer Job Fair this Saturday, May 8th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the camp, located at 73 Times Farm Road in Andover, CT. The Bobcats Boys Tennis played their toughest match so far this season against a very strong Avon team. Although the team lost 0-7, the team made the Avon team work for their wins - Great Job Guys! Next match is another tough one away at Hall!

May is Asian-American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month.  As we celebrate and honor the AAPI communities this month, take a moment to recognize the numerous contributions members of the AAPI community have made to our country and the world. Please take a moment to reflect on how you can contribute to a more inclusive community.  
 
Hispanic and LatinE Club focuses on elevating and celebrating all of the different Hispanic and LatinE cultures through open discussions, open mics, our website, articles, and more! Some activities we offer include Dungeons and Dragons, Minecraft, Among Us, Smash Bros. and many more! We meet virtually every Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. after school via Google Meet. Our classroom code is k4qkjgm.

Seniors: There are still scholarships available with approaching deadlines. The William L Perry Scholarship, which is awarded to seniors who have exhibited outstanding leadership, while maintaining a rigorous course load, and strong academic performance. Applicants must show a record of participation in high commitment activities such as athletics, music or drama, while also being active leaders in service clubs or student government. This is a great opportunity for students who meet the criteria as it is for SWHS students ONLY. You must apply by May 14th. The application is linked to the scholarship listing in Naviance. ATHLETIC NEWS:
The Bobcats lost a tight match to Wethersfield by a score of 3-4. Winning for the Bobcats was Jonathan Huot and Matthew Chin at Singles and Noah Marques & Suri Singaravelu at Doubles. The Bobcats' record is now 5 wins and 2 losses with tough matches coming up with Avon on Wednesday and Hall on Friday.

The Japanese Club will meet virtually this Thursday, May 6th at 2:30 p.m. We will learn of Japanese festivals and continue to speak more Japanese!

ATHLETIC NEWS:
On Friday the undefeated Boys Tennis Team fell to a strong Glastonbury team by a score of 6-1. The lone winner for the Bobcats was Rahul Mahesh in a tough 3 set match at 3rd singles - Congrats Rahul! The team's record stands at 5-1. The Bobcats are looking to get back on the winning track Monday at home versus Wethersfield.
