SCHOOL NEWS
 
A representative from Jostens class rings will be in the cafeteria today, Thursday, September 30th during all four lunch periods. Please stop by if you are a sophomore or junior! He will have samples and packets for you to take with you. See Mrs. Barrett in room 122A with any questions! 
 
College Visits to the Career Center wrap up this week with Washington College, Roger Williams University, Rivier University, and Husson University on Thursday. On Friday we will have representatives from UMass – Boston, College of St. Rose, University of Maine – Farmington, and Emmanuel College. Sign up in Naviance if you would like to attend these visits.
 
The New England Association for College Admissions Counseling will host a college fair at Western New England University in Springfield on Tuesday, October 5th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in its Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center. Over 100 colleges, universities and technical institutes will be there with information on Admissions and Financial Aid. Go to wne.edu/visit for more information on the event.

A reminder to students looking for part-time jobs – there are several posted on the board in the Career Center. Recent additions include Dunkin Donuts on Sullivan Avenue and LOFT at Evergreen Walk. New jobs are added almost every week!

There is a version for 9 and 10 graders, and a separate version for 11 and 12 graders with more complex mathematical topics. If you are interested in taking the test, you must sign up for the AMC 10/12 2021-22 Google Classroom with the code sdiqn2q. Once in the classroom, you must fill out the Google Form to reserve a test by this Thursday, September 30 to guarantee a spot taking the test. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Brindisi in Room 265.

There is a version for 9 and 10 graders, and a separate version for 11 and 12 graders with more complex mathematical topics. If you are interested in taking the test, you must sign up for the AMC 10/12 2021-22 Google Classroom with the code sdiqn2q. To be eligible to present, you must have all written work turned in to your advisor's Google Classroom by September 29th. Then, you have until October 6th at 2:00 pm to sign up for a time slot. You can present either in person or virtually using Google Meet. In order to receive an honor cord for Capstone you must: present on October 13 (or in January), receive a score of highly successful on ALL written work, a highly successful on your presentation, AND submit a 3 minute highlight video. For more information please see the Capstone webpage.

Academic Support Club will be starting this Monday, September 27th. It will meet in room 122A from 2:00- 3:30 pm. every Monday through Thursday. No late buses are provided on Tuesday. Tutors, snacks, and water will be provided. On behalf of the SWHS Sexuality and Gender Alliance, we'd like to share that TODAY, September 23rd, is Bisexuality Day, which celebrates the bisexual culture, history, and community. Bisexuality is a sexual and/or romantic orientation defined as the attraction to people of multiple genders, although it is typically simplified to the attraction to both men and women.. Today serves as reminder that every day is a day for respect and acceptance, so remember to always be kind to others, no matter how they identify or express themselves!
 
Rho Kappa: The National Social Studies Honor Society is currently inviting eligible Juniors and Seniors to apply for this opportunity. The application form will be posted and shared by your Social Studies teachers in Google Classroom. Additional information can be found on the application. Seniors: The first wave of Capstone presentations will be on Wednesday, October 13th. To be eligible to present, you must have all written work turned in to your adviser's Google Classroom by September 29th. Then, you have until October 6th at 2:00 pm to sign up for a time slot. You can present either in person or virtually using Google Meet. In order to receive an honor cord for Capstone you must: present on October 13 (or in January) and receive a score of highly successful on ALL written work and highly successful on your presentation.
