SCHOOL NEWS: 
 
All are welcome to the first ever TEDx event at SWHS on Thursday, October 6th in the Auditorium. The speakers will be discussing economic inequality through areas such as affordable housing, healthcare, computer, and data science. Please RSVP at www.tedxsouthwindsor.com. Refreshments provided.

If you are interested in being a part of the Homecoming October Pep Rally on October 28th, please fill out the Homecoming Week Pep Rally Participation Form in your Google Classroom. You will compete in some sort of short competition in front of the student body. We will pick a few students from each grade that fill out this form to compete against the other classes. This will be decided at the pep rally and your name will be called out then. 

Attention Juniors! Class of 2024 Spirit wear T-Shirts are available for purchase in the spirit wear store. T-shirts cost $15 and all orders are due by Friday, October 14th. T-Shirts will be available for pickup on Friday, October 21st. Please use the link on screen to purchase
 
The Senior Class is partnering with South Windsor Panthers Football on Saturday, October 15th from 1pm-9pm. Come to Rye Street Park to volunteer and watch the games. 10% of the proceeds will go towards the Senior Class.
 
CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:
 
Unified for Underprivileged Girls is hosting its first fundraiser of the year. Come enjoy delicious food at a local soup and bread shop at 100 Hemlock Avenue in South Windsor on October 7th from 4-8 pm and help raise money for underprivileged girls in Kenya. 
 
Want to be a part of a big performance and big team? Join AXIS, the K-pop dance cover team! We're learning new K-pop choreos every month and preparing for our final end of year performance! If you're interested, invite your friends and join our Classroom with code y5kxurf to get more info before our required meeting on October 4th! 
 
Would you like to do community service and help provide safe and clean water for villages in Sub-Saharan Africa? Then join the Water Launch Club. Sign up using our Google Classroom code igygbt4. Our first meeting will be later in October.
 
The Bobcat Bowling Club is back!  Anyone interested in joining the Bowling Club can roll on down to Room 168 and ask Mr. Gray any questions you might have and pick-up a permission slip. Anyone interested in enjoying the outdoors should join the Outing Club for a hike on October 15th to Castle Craig. Permissions slips can be picked up in Room 254 or Room 264 and are due with payment by October 4th. See Ms. Andrews or Mrs. Lynch for questions.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER: 

Junior or Senior students interested in attending the United States Senate Youth Program should speak to Mrs. Carty as soon as possible about how to be considered for a school nomination. Two students from Connecticut will ultimately be selected to attend the Washington Week in March. In order to be eligible, students must not have previously attended the program and must be an elected officer of a schoolwide or statewide organization or a student representative selected by a panel, commission, regional or state-level civic or educational organization. Come to the Career Center to indicate your interest, ask any questions, and find out how you can apply to be a SWHS nominee.

This week’s college visits will be from University of Delaware, University of Hartford, Rollins College, University of Connecticut, Seton Hall University, Endicott College, New York University, and Salem State University. Please sign up in Naviance if you are interested in attending. Some visits may be moved to the Seminar Room so please check signage outside the Career Center.

The first wave of Capstone presentations is right around the corner, on Wednesday October 12th during the PSAT block. In order to present in this wave, you must have all written work submitted to your adviser’s Google Classroom by Monday October 3rd. All of your work must receive a score of successful or highly successful. You will sign up to present by filling out a Google Form that will be posted on the Capstone Website. A schedule with presentation times and room assignments will be posted on the Capstone Website by Friday October 7th. Students who present during this wave are eligible for an honor cord.

The next meeting of the math team will take place today, September 30th, from 2:15pm until 4:00pm in the Media Center Seminar Room. We will provide a drink and a snack. There are late buses on these days except Tuesdays. See Mrs. Barrett if you have any questions!

Join the SWHS Gymnastics Team! The pre-season meeting will be Friday, September 30th at 6:30pm in Room 102 at SWHS. Any student athlete interested in learning more about the team, requirements and the schedule for this year is welcome! Parents are also welcome at this meeting. Tickets for the South Windsor High School Varsity Football game this Friday @ Manchester High School are available for purchase online. Go to the SWHS Athletic Website home page for this link to purchase tickets through Go Fan. A reminder not to activate your tickets until Manchester personnel does this for you at the ticket gate or it will non-validate your ticket. All students must have their school ID with them as well.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to fly a plane? Do you have any interest in working with planes? If so, the Bobcat Aviators Club is for you. The Aviators will explore different paths in the aviation industry and take trips to Hartford Brainard airport. Interact is a community service club which gives members a chance to get volunteer experience, develop leadership skills, and have fun! Our first meeting is Thursday, September 29th at 2:05pm in the back of the Media Center. Attendance is mandatory for all looking to participate this year. New members are welcome. The last day to purchase Chromebook insurance for the 22-23 school year is Friday, September 23, 2022.  Please see https://www.southwindsorschools.org/chromebookinsurance for payment information.

Nominate a Staff or Faculty member for Staffulty of the Month. Students can nominate faculty and staff for the Staffulty of the Month award. This is someone you feel demonstrates kindness, understanding, encouragement, and more through this school year.  Nominations will be reviewed by Student Council officers. Two Staff members will be selected every month. They will be recognized at monthly faculty meetings and on the school website. Please be school appropriate with your nominations.

SCHOOL NEWS: 

Voter Registration Drive: On Thursday September 22nd from 8am-12pm, the South Windsor Registrar of Voters will be holding a Voter Registration Drive outside of the Cafeteria. There will be the opportunity to register to vote for eligible individuals, and to learn about the process of registering. Please reach out to Mrs. Slogesky, Social Studies curriculum specialist with any questions. 
 
The library will be closed to all study halls and lunch waves today, 9/21 due to picture day. Please plan accordingly

Tomorrow is School Picture Day. Please report to the Media Center at the scheduled time for your picture.
 
The last day to purchase Chromebook insurance for the 22-23 school year is Friday, September 23, 2022.  Please see https://www.southwindsorschools.org/chromebookinsurance for payment information.
 
Voter Registration Drive: On Thursday September 22nd from 8am-12pm, the South Windsor Registrar of Voters will be holding a Voter Registration Drive outside of the Cafeteria. There will be the opportunity to register to vote for eligible individuals, and to learn about the process of registering. Please reach out to Mrs. Slogesky, Social Studies curriculum specialist with any questions. 
 
The library will be closed to all study halls and lunch waves on Wednesday, 9/21 due to picture day. Please plan accordingly!

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:

Current members of NHS will meet this Wednesday after school in the Cafeteria. Please bring your dues with you. 

Interested in becoming a member of the Student Council? The first Student Council meeting is coming up. There will be an informational meeting for all students on September 22nd, from 2:10-3pm in the back of the Media Center. All students are welcome! 
 
If you want to help in adding hope to all and you like to paint, Join "Paint for Positivity". Our first meeting is on Thursday, September 22 from 2:15pm until 3:45pm in Room 121. We are looking for students who would like to add more quotes above the lockers and add decorative elements to catch people’s eyes. Our class code is pxjybzs. Hope to see you next Thursday.

Join Italian Club (Google Classroom Code: jpvw2ye) Come to our first meeting on Wednesday, September 28th right after school in Room 226.  We will have a snack, talk about what we'd like to do for activities this year, and open applications for officers and the Italian Club Executive Board. College visits are underway and continue every day this week. Still to come are Rivier University, Johnson & Wales, University of New England, American International College, Bay Path University, Central CT State, University of New Hampshire, and Smith College. All visits will take place in the Career Center.

Bobcat Robotics is ready to kick off another exciting season. If you are new to robotics and are looking to join this amazing club, please come to our informational meeting on Wednesday, September 21st in Room 12.
