Today, September 15th marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States.  Each year Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

Picture is day is Monday, September 20th. This is the photo used on your School ID and in Powerschool. If you would like to order pictures and are in need of a picture form, please see Mrs. Balducci in the Main Office.  Please note that the picture code is the same, even though the date switched. Rho Kappa: The National Social Studies Honor Society is currently inviting eligible Juniors and Seniors to apply for this opportunity. The application form will be posted and shared by your Social Studies teachers in Google Classroom. Additional information can be found on the application. Students: A friendly reminder, be sure to purchase Chromebook insurance for the 2021-2022 school year. The cost is $26 and covers accidental damage. To join the insurance program, you may pay online through My School Bucks OR make out a check for $26 to SWPS and write the student ID number, grade and "Chromebook" on the memo line and drop it off to the Main Office. Insurance is due by Friday, September 17th.
 
CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES
There will be a Bobcat Ambassadors Club meeting TODAY, Wednesday, September 15th right after school in the School Counseling Career Center. Any students interested in joining are encouraged to attend. Please see Ms. Brown-Quinn in the School Counseling Office with any questions.
 
The first meeting of the Environmental Club will take place TODAY, Wednesday September 15th at 2:10 to 3:00 p.m. in Room 206. Join our Google Classroom with code: 5szwfah to learn more. All are welcome! 
 
Looking to be a pen pal and create a friendship with a student in Kenya? Are you interested in discussing women's rights issues and advocating for female empowerment? Then Unified for Underprivileged Girls is the club for you! Please come to the informational meeting TODAY, Wednesday, September 15th from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in room 102. Please contact Ms. Fox with any questions and we hope to see you there! 
 
Are you interested in debate? Politics? Solving real world problems? If so, Model UN is the club for you. We represent countries at the United Nations as they attempt to solve real world problems, like COVID-19, the refugee crisis, and climate change. If interested, please join our NEW Google Classroom, using code: jw75crg. Our first meeting is TODAY, Wednesday, September 15th. 
 
Any student interested in joining the Math Team should attend our first meeting of the year this Friday, September 17th at 2:15 p.m. in the Media Center Seminar Room. If you have any questions or cannot attend the meeting, please see Mr. Brindisi in Room 265.
 
For any students interested in participating on this year's Mock Trial team, our first official meeting will take place afterschool on Monday, September 20th in room 135. If any Freshmen or newbies to the activity missed our intro to the Mock Trial meeting, our slide show was added to google classroom! If you have any questions please drop by to see Mr. Garrish in room 135. All are welcome! 
 
Attention all students! Are you interested in getting more volunteer hours? Develop leadership skills and connect back to the community? Interact Club is starting up again for the year! An informational meeting will be held on Thursday, September 23rd from 2:00 - 2:30 p.m. in the Media Center Classroom! We will also be revealing our new classroom code for the school year! If you have any questions, please see an Interact officer or Mrs. Howard in room 134.
 
Interested in gaining confidence and communication skills? Join the Debate Club! Our first meeting will be on Friday, September 24th afterschool in room 250. No prior experience is required, if interested please stop by! Contact Ms. Howard (chemistry teacher) for any questions.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
College visits begin this week in the Career Center! This is the best way to learn more about colleges you may be considering and let them get to know you too. All visits will be in-person this year. Please speak to your teacher for permission before missing class time to attend. This week’s colleges include: Holy Cross, Lynn University, Albertus Magnus, St. John’s University, Saint Michael’s, Merrimack College, and UConn. There are numerous part-time job opportunities posted in the Career Center. All are local. There are a variety of job types with different shifts available. Come check out the bulletin board!
