SCHOOL NEWS:
Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States and occurs every year on November 11th. This date is in honor of the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918 that signaled the end of World War I, known at the time as Armistice Day. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. We take this opportunity each year to thank and honor those that have served our country. This year students will be viewing a virtual Veterans Day ceremony in all period 4 classes at South Windsor High School on 11/11. Additionally, Veterans from our community, including representatives from the Patriotic Commission and American Legion, will be visiting classes. In honor of Veterans visiting our school, we encourage students and staff to wear red, white, and blue next Monday! Let’s show our appreciation, support, and gratitude for those who have served our country
