An important scholarship announcement for Seniors: South Windsor Dollars for Scholars opens their on-line scholarship application portal on Thursday, January 21st. This scholarship program is an excellent opportunity for SWHS students to receive awards from local organizations and funds. The completion and submission of the application and any other additional essays, statements, or portfolios will be required for scholarship consideration. You will also have the opportunity to explore the many national scholarships through their parent organization, Scholarship America. Important instructions are included on the Parent/Student Sign-In page at www.southwindsor.dollarsforscholars.org. The application portal closes on March 15th with no exceptions. The South Windsor Patriotic Commission has announced their annual essay contest for students of South Windsor. High School students are asked to write an essay on “What it means to me to be an American” in 500 words or less. Schools are closed Monday, January 18th in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The holiday is recognized annually on the third Monday in January, which is near Dr. King’s birthday, January 15th. Dr. King was a key voice of the American civil rights movement, which worked for equal rights for all. He was famous for using nonviolent resistance to overcome injustice and to end segregation laws. In 1964, King received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts and achievements, the youngest person ever to receive this high honor. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is an opportunity to remember and honor Dr. King and his legacy.

There is a version for 9 and 10 graders, and a separate version for 11 and 12 graders with more complex mathematical topics. If you are interested in taking the test, you must sign up for the AMC 10/12 2021 Google Classroom with the code tm75r3l.
