SCHOOL NEWS:

 

Attention Seniors: the first wave of Capstone presentations is on Thursday, 10/24. In order to present, you must have submitted your written work to your adviser and have scored a “successful” on all components. Next, you must fill out the Google form posted on the Capstone website by Friday, 10/18. Reach out to your adviser with any questions.

 

Please consider signing up to donate blood on Wednesday, October 30 during school. Every donation counts. To sign up, scan the QR code on the posters around school, or through the volunteers that are available during all lunch waves this week. We will also take walk-ins on Wednesday 10/30. You must be 17 or older, or 16 with a parent permission form to donate. See Ms. Karasinski in Room 207 for more information.

 

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:  

 

The Travel Club is pleased to extend the Quebec field trip to other students in the World Languages Department. The trip is Friday, February 7 to Monday, February 10, 2025. The selection criteria is on a first come, first served basis. There are 18 positions left to be filled. Hurry up, space is limited. Please see Mr. Ly in Room 227 with questions.

SCHOOL NEWS:

 

Attention students attending homecoming: 

In order to attend after school activities such as the Homecoming football game and dance, students must attend at least half of their class periods on that day.  Advisors and administrators will be checking attendance throughout the day to ensure that all students attending homecoming meet these requirements. 

In addition, the latest students can enter the homecoming dance is 8:00 PM. All those arriving after that time will not be permitted.  If students are admitted to the dance, and then leave, please know they will not be readmitted into the dance. Please note that all students must show a picture ID with their ticket in order to be admitted.

 

The Junior Class is hosting a Spikeball tournament on Friday, November 8th from 6 to 9pm. Check the Class of ‘26 classroom page, fliers and social media for updates. Sign up deadline is October 25th. 

 

Attention SWHS! Last call to vote for Homecoming Court & Homecoming Royalty! Vote on your Google Classroom page today by 2:00 pm. Find out who makes Homecoming Court at the Pep Rally Friday and royalty at halftime at the football game Friday.

 

The Teen Center will be celebrating Bobcat Pride Day on Thursday, October 17th to get ready for Homecoming! Stop into the Teen Center wearing your bobcat swag and you can win some cool prizes, eat some pizza and play some cool games! Be at the teen center before 2:30 if you need a late bus pass.

The Japanese Club will meet this Thursday, October 17th in Room 230. Calligraphy brushes, ink, and paper scrolls, have just arrived from Japan, so you can write your name in Japanese characters. The October Cooking Club Day is Thursday, October 24th at 2:00 PM in Room 105 at SWHS. This month we will cook Hispanic cuisine in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month and bake spooky treats for Halloween. Please bring $5 to Sra. Ruiz in AN 56 or to Sra. Hwang in AN 37 to reserve your spot today.

To be eligible to present, you must have your written work turned in to your advisor's Google Classroom by October 10th.  If you score successful on all written work, you then need to fill out the Google Form on the Capstone Website. This will be open from October 15-18.  See your adviser with any questions.

The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership seminar is an opportunity for high school sophomores to realize their leadership talents by participating in hands-on leadership activities and exploring how their own personal leadership skills can make an impact in their local community. South Windsor High School will select two 10th grade students to attend a three-day program at Southern Connecticut State University from May 30 - June 1, 2025. Faculty have been invited to nominate students, but self-nominations are also welcome. Interested 10th graders should see Ms. Carty in the Career Center for application details.

 

Next week brings a big lineup of college visits. Sign up in Naviance if you want to meet any of the following - Brandeis University, Babson College, Fairfield University, New York University, University of Vermont, Johnson & Wales University, Lafayette College, Tufts University, University of Miami, Tulane University, Case Western Reserve University, and Boston College. A reminder to all staff and students: Whether you're heading to the annex, crossing the street to upper Duprey, traveling to or from the student lot, or walking to the stadium, always use the crosswalks. Look both ways, follow the signals, and help keep everyone safe by sticking to the designated areas.

A reminder to all staff and students: Whether you're heading to the annex, crossing the street to upper Duprey, traveling to or from the student lot, or walking to the stadium, always use the crosswalks. Look both ways, follow the signals, and help keep everyone safe by sticking to the designated areas. 

 

Seniors, it is time to order your cap and gowns. The QR code is on the flier posted in the senior google classroom. The deadline for ordering is soon so get your orders in. There is no payment needed. See Mrs. Lynch in room 254 or Mr. Zielinski in Room 233 if you have any questions.

 

Students: It is time to nominate Homecoming Court for 2024. Please nominate 2 senior students based on their involvement in the school and community.  This is someone that demonstrates kindness, understanding, encouragement, and models Portrait of a Graduate attributes! The nomination form is on Google Classroom pages and will close on Friday, 10/11 at 2:00 pm. 

 

Tickets for the Homecoming dance are now on sale through Tuesday, October 15th. Please see your grade level Google Classroom for the link to purchase. As a reminder, we are unable to accommodate guests this year due to our growing enrollment. See Ms. Goslin in Room 233 with questions.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER:

 

For students who are thinking about college after high school, there are many opportunities this week to visit with college and university reps. Check Naviance for the days and times of all visits to register. Remaining visits this week include Holy Cross, University of Chicago, Brown University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Boston University and Dartmouth College.

 

Students in grades 10-12 will attend the College and Career Fair the morning of October 10th in the gym. There will be over 125 colleges, universities, community colleges, trade schools, military branches and employers to meet. You will receive more information about this in your Bobcat Block this week.
