There will be a bereavement ceremony for Ali Pahore on Wednesday, November 7 at 4:15 pm. Ali was a member of the Class of 2020 and the South Windsor High School Symphonic Band. Sadly, he passed away on December 28, 2017 after a long, courageous battle with Leukemia. The ceremony will be held at the Memorial Garden in the front of the school. All are welcome to celebrate Ali’s life.

Today marks the start of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. The five-day fete is India's biggest and brightest national holiday and celebrates the triumph of good over evil. It’s as important to Hindus as Christmas is to Christians, and it marks the start of a new financial year for Indian businesses worldwide.

The Unified Theatre Board reminds all teachers and club advisors to nominate their club leaders for the Bobcat Leaders for Inclusion Conference. Permission slips need to be distributed as soon as possible and must be returned to Mrs. White by Friday, November 9.

The Strategy Club will meet this Thursday, November 8 after school in room 7. New members are always welcome. Come join us for board games, Magic the Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons, or Nintendo Switch.

On November 16, South Windsor High School will offer the ASVAB exam. While this is a required test for entrance into the military, it is also a valuable test to explore potential career possibilities. It is not only for students planning to enter the military. To sign up or if you have questions about the ASVAB test, please see Dr. LaRochelle in School Counseling. 

Jack Perry and Joey Hence are hosting a Handball Tourney for their Capstone Project on Friday, November 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the gym. Teams consist of 7 players. Each team member must sign up by November 7 by filling out the google form located on the google classroom page for your designated class. Entry fee is at least one non-perishable food item per team member. There will be a maximum of 50 participants, so sign up now to reserve your spot.

Please take note that there is a NEW policy for attending college visits in the Career Center. In order to attend, students are required to have a signed permission slip for classes they will miss during the college visit. Mrs. Carty will send permission slips to homeroom for students who have signed up in Naviance at least 2 days in advance. Otherwise, students can pick up a permission slip from the Career Center in enough time to complete it before the visit. Students arriving to a visit without a slip will be sent back to the Career Center for a slip or will return to their class and miss the visit.

Did you know that there are over 13 million cancer survivors in the U.S today? We need your help to make this number even larger! If you are interested in helping the fight for cancer, please come to the Relay For Life club meeting on Thursday November 8 in Ms. Lyons classroom in room 145. If you cannot attend, but would still like to be a part of the team, or if you have any questions, please see Ms. Lyons before Thursday.

As a reminder: all Varsity, JV and Freshman athletes of Field Hockey, Girls Volleyball, Boys XC and Girls XC will take the End of Season Athletic Surveys in the SWHS café today, November 7 from 2:10 - 2:25 pm. Please bring your Chromebooks.

The visit from Endicott College scheduled for tomorrow morning is cancelled due to a conflict for the representative. Visits from the University of Maine and American International College will take place in the Career Center. On Friday, a representative from Saint Anselm College will be here. Remember – with the new attendance policy in the Career Center, you must obtain a permission slip in advance of these visits from Mrs. Carty if you did not already received one in your homeroom.

Athletic News:

Sarah Gallagher has been named a finalist for the CT Varsity Athlete of the Week award. Please vote for Sarah at www.courant.com/ctvarsit.  Voting will last through Sunday at midnight. Vote often and help our field hockey goalie win Athlete of the Week.

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls’ Volleyball team for defeating Staples on Monday night at home in the first round of the state tournament in Class LL with a score of 3 to 1. The team will now travel to play Southington Thursday night at 6:00 pm. Hope you will come out and cheer on your fellow Bobcats.

Field Hockey defeated Watertown 3-1. The team will travel to Guildford on Thursday for the second round of States.
