Hey foodies!  The Cooking Club will be having an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 13th after school in Room 105.  We'll be picking our monthly menu themes and discussing club officer positions, so if you love to cook and are looking for leadership opportunities, it could be a recipe for success!  Please see Ms. Clifford or Senora Ruiz with questions.
 
The South Windsor Gay-Straight Alliance will hold its first meeting of the year on Monday, September 11th at 2:00pm in Room 148.  We are a diverse group of students who care about making sure South Windsor is a safe and inclusive space for all people, regardless of the gender or sexual identity.  If you want to hang out with us, eat some yummy snacks, and celebrate our differences, come on down!  Members past, present, and future (that means YOU, new members!) are welcome!  See Mrs. Knapp, Andrew Sego, or Taylor Kerce for more details.  
 
College visits will begin Monday!  These are an excellent way for you to explore colleges, ask personal questions, and make an impression on a counselor who will be reading your application.  Representatives from Suffolk University, Elms College, and Rivier University will all be in the Career Center this coming Monday, September 11th.  Check the listings in Naviance for specific times and to sign up to attend these visits.  If you are not sure how to do this, please see Mrs. Carty for assistance. 
 
Tufts University offers students from underrepresented communities an overnight visit to campus and the opportunity to experience all facets of college life.  The Voices of Tufts Diversity Experiences take place during two sessions in October – one for engineering and one for arts and sciences. If you are interested in this program, please see Mrs. Carty in the Career Center for details.  Applications are due in early October.
 
South Windsor Youth & Family Services is hosting a Leadership Academy for SWHS students who are looking to sharpen skills and boost confidence to help prepare you for school, work, college, and community involvement. Come learn about what it means to be a leader and improve your skills while acquiring new ones. We will cover: public speaking, how to market yourself successfully, building leadership skills, confidence, and effective communication. This event will take place on Friday, September 15th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the SW Community Center. It is FREE, but you must register through Eventbrite.com and search South Windsor Youth & Family Services. For more information, contact Liz at 860-648-6361 x331.
 
The admissions staffs of Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn, and Stanford will collaborate on an information session entitled "Exploring College Options" on Wednesday, September 27th at 7 p.m. in Farmington.  Students interested in attending may register at www.exploringcollegeoptions.org.  An informational flyer is posted on the Programs and Events bulletin board in the Career Center.
 
Students interested in attending upcoming fall college fairs can check out posters hanging outside School Counseling or on the Programs and Events bulletin board in the Career Center.  The NEACAC college fair takes place this Sunday, September 10th at Western New England University in Springfield and the NACAC fair takes place the following Sunday, September 17th in Boston.
 
Athletic News:
-Boys swimming will have a meeting today after school in the Media Center.  All who want to participate in dry land this fall are welcome!
