Students, please note:  lockers without locks on them will be bolted at the end of this week.  If you are going to be using your locker this year, be sure lock it up by Friday.  Locker registration slips are due in the Main Office by Friday as well.
 
This Friday is national School Spirit Day.  Please wear any South Windsor High School apparel on Friday! 
 
Representatives from the University of Maryland, College Park and the University of Hartford will be here tomorrow afternoon.  Please check specific times listed in Naviance and sign up for the visits to learn more about these schools.
 
Are you feeling a little overwhelmed by your college search or the idea of filling out your Common App?  Are you stuck trying to write your college essay?  Does every school you like come with a huge tuition that you can't imagine paying?  Come to the Career Center for help!  Make your own appointment with Mrs. Carty to learn about how to use Naviance and other tools to explore careers and colleges, how to get rolling on your Common App and essays, and how to find scholarships that could help make all of this work a reality at the right college for you. See the School Counseling secretaries or Mrs. Carty in the Career Center to make an appointment.
 
Attention all students! The Fashion Club's first meeting will be Wednesday September 20th after school in room 7. If you're interested in learning about fashion, putting on a fashion show, creating wearable art, or bringing your own ideas, this is the club for you. New members are welcome!
 
Attention all SWHS students!  Want a leadership position for the high school?  Come to the Student Council meeting!  New and returning members welcome.  All grades welcome.  We will meet in Room 156 today at 2:05pm to discuss this year's elections and events.  
 
There will be open auditions on Monday, September 25th for the award winning Spectrum Band. Auditions will be held after school from 2-4 pm. Materials are posted on the wall outside the band room. See Mr. Martineau in Room 4 for details!! Don't miss out on the opportunity to be a part of this award winning ensemble! 
 
Any students interested in part-time work can see the Programs and Events bulletin board in the Career Center.  Currently posted positions include a dishwasher at the Red Onion restaurant and concessions or skate guards and instructors at South Windsor Arena.
 
Full cast of "Annie" is called to rehearsal in the Auditorium today from 2-4pm.  Please remember to bring your score and a pencil!  Recordings are posted on Google Classroom -- please listen and review prior to rehearsal.  
 
Students interested in the Common Ground program are reminded that applications are due TODAY to Ms. Lane in Room 6.  See Ms. Lane if you have any questions.
 
The admissions staffs of Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn, and Stanford will collaborate on an information session entitled "Exploring College Options" on Wednesday, September 27th at 7 p.m. in Farmington.  Students interested in attending may register at www.exploringcollegeoptions.org.  An informational flyer is posted on the Programs and Events bulletin board in the Career Center.
 
The Homecoming Dance Planning Committee will meet tomorrow at 2:10pm in Room 257.  This meeting is open to ANY student interested in helping plan.
 
A meeting will be held tomorrow after school in Room 131 to select next year’s summer reading selections. This committee is looking for readers of all grades and reading levels to approve books for next summer. If you are interested in being on the committee but cannot attend the meeting, see Mrs. Blocker in Room 131. 
 
Are you good at math?  Do you enjoy solving challenging problems?  Consider joining the Math Team!  Our first meeting will be this Friday (Sept. 15) right after school in Room 265.  Come find out more about the team and our plans for the year.  If you are interested in joining but cannot attend, please see Mr. Brindisi in Room 265.
 
Mock Trial will meet tomorrow at 2:10 PM in Room 157. All students who signed up and any other interested students should attend.  If you cannot attend be sure to see Mr. Zeuschner.
 
Model UN Meeting for new and returning students: If you have not yet registered for Model UN 2017, please join us for important information about this year’s exciting program. We will meet today at 2:05pm in the back of the Media Center. If you have questions, please see Ms. Simcik in Room 166.
 
South Windsor For the Kids will meet today after school from 2:00-2:20pm in the seminar room. The meeting is open to returning members as well as new members who are interested in learning more about the club. Interact Club will be holding an informational meeting for new and returning members tomorrow at 2:05pm in the Seminar Room. We are a community service organization that helps make our school, town, state, and the world a better place! We hope to see you there! South Windsor Youth & Family Services is hosting a Leadership Academy for SWHS students.  This event will take place on Friday, September 15th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the SW Community Center. Athletic News:
-The girls' varsity soccer team ran their record to 2-0 yesterday with a win over East Hartford.  Karly Suppicich, Jaylene Ferrabelo, Lindsay Fishman, Olivia Besthoff, and Kelly Morson scored on helpers from Suppicich, Fishman and Maddie Westfall.  Julia Sarra was a standout keeping the hornets from the hive while Jianna Mitchell and Molly Carroll combined for the shutout.  The team plays Windsor next on Friday.
-Girls’ varsity field hockey defeated East Catholic 11-0. They will take on Conard away on Thursday.
