Support the Sophomore class and enjoy a great smoothie at the local happy and nutritional smoothie place at 948 Sullivan Ave today, April 26 from 2:00 – 6:00 pm. Mention you’re with SWHS and proceeds will go toward the 2021 class funds. 
 
For students taking UConn ECE classes next year, there will be a mandatory application assembly on Monday, April 29 at 7:45 am in the Auditorium.  Next year’s ECE Courses are Marine Science, Environmental Science, AP Physics 1, Modern Western Traditions, AP Economics, Latin IV, Classical Mythology, and Seminar in Writing.  Please see your Counselor with any questions.

Join the Italian club for a game of bocce and pizza on Monday, April 29 right after school.  We'll meet in room 226 and then go outside.  Please bring Mrs. Zaccardelli $5 by Friday to save your spot.  Everyone is welcome!

National Honors Society is hosting an AP Exam review after school in the cafeteria on Monday, April 29 and Wednesday, May 1.  Join for some studying, snacks will be provided!

The Gardening Club is holding their first meeting after school Tuesday, April 30 in room 204.  Join to help de-stress, have fun, and plant flowers around the school!  Contact Joanne Biju or Armina Sarin for any questions.

A new senior dues collection date has been added for Tuesday, April 30 from 2:00 – 3:00 pm in room 264.  If you are paying for outing, remember to bring your permission slip.

A new scholarship has just come in to the Career Center with a due date of April 30.  The Westinghouse Windsor Women in Nuclear Scholarship is for females planning to pursue STEM degrees.  Students must fill out an application and provide essays.  There are three scholarships ranging from $200 to $500.  The application is available in Naviance and remember – it is due next Tuesday! 

The Career Center has another brand new scholarship available only to SWHS seniors.  The Class of 1969 Alumni Scholarship is available to any graduating senior.  This is another essay-based scholarship with NO minimum GPA or specific level of need.  Applications are available in the Career Center.  This is also a reminder that the Marsella Macinda Scholarships applications are due to the Career Center by next Friday, May 3 and the William Perry applications are due by the end of school TODAY.  These are all great opportunities only for our students. 

The Science Fiction/Fantasy club will hold its next meeting on Thursday, May 2 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm in room 127.  Join us to watch and discuss Stardust.

If you're a senior, please consider submitting an original poem to the Grad Poem Contest.  Write a poem that you will be read at the Graduation Ceremony.  Please submit your work to Ms. Pieratti or Ms. White by Friday, May 10 for consideration of this great honor. 

United Bank’s South Windsor High School branch is hiring for next school year.  If you would like a position that develops your banking and customer service skills, this is a great opportunity to work locally and gain professional experience.  Applicants must be 16 years old by August when the position starts.  Ideal candidates are current sophomores, but interested juniors are still encouraged to apply.  To see a flyer with contact information please visit the Career Center.

Seniors who are interested in earning an honor cord in Art must participate in the judged section of the Senior Art Show.  A mandatory meeting will be in room 121 on Monday, April 29 at 2:00 pm.  See your art teacher for applications and details.

The Handball Tournament, sponsored by FBLA, will be on May 10 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.  Gather a group of friends and come on down!  The teams will consist of 6 people and the charge for each team member is $5.00. Each team will cost $30.00. Prizes will be handed out for the 1st place team winners.  Sign-ups will be in the cafe during lunch next week.  Any questions see Mrs. Barrett.

Athletic News:

Congratulations to the Girls’ Tennis team for their 5th win this season against RHAM. Outstanding performances came from all the girls, and doubles player Jia Yazon was named MVP for the day!  Singles Sophia Chin won with a double bagel, and doubles Jina Lee and Caitlin Sauer with a french fry.  The team’s next match is against Simsbury today.

The Boys Tennis Team had a dominant win over Middletown, sweeping all 7 matches in straight sets. Congrats to Singles Players Ronnak Saxena, Jack Perry, Elijah Wood and Rahul Mahesh and Doubles Teams of Sam Kim & Donny Sauer, Andris Reba & Dan Zhu, and Jeeva Shunmugaraja & Neal Shah. The team is looking to continue their win streak today against Hall.

Girls Varsity Lacrosse lost to Cheshire 16-5, and JV lost 12-6. The team will take on Southington at home on Monday.
