Attention all students who drive to school and park across the street. This Wednesday, January 29th, the upper Duprey parking lot will not be available for student parking. All students without a SWHS parking pass will need to park at the Lower Duprey lot. Again, the upper Duprey lot will be closed to students on Wednesday. 

On Wednesday January 29th, Ms. Liane Smith from the South Windsor Teen Center will have a table in the lunchroom to publicize the Teen Center, and upcoming events. Please stop by to say hello. There will be a free raffle.

Calling all actors! It’s time to sign up for the Spring Play. Auditions will be held this Thursday and Friday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in room 144. Sign up outside room 147. We need your talent and enthusiasm!

Seniors: Please remind your parents that Congratulatory Ads must be submitted by Friday, January 31st. Please see the Yearbook tab on the SWHS webpage for directions and more information.

FBLA field trip forms are due on February 6th. Please make sure you pick one up from Mrs. Barrett if you are interested in going to competition. We will also be testing for the competition on February 6th.

Students who are interested in becoming electricians are encouraged to apply to the Hartford Electricians and Joint Apprenticeship Training program between January 27th and February 7th at their office in Hartford. The office will have extended hours in the afternoon and evening on Friday, January 31st and Friday, February 7th. Interested students need to be at least 17 years old, graduating from high school in June, and have one year of Algebra with a passing grade. The South Windsor Dollars for Scholars (SWDFS) Scholarship Program online application portal is now open until March 15th! This program offers approximately $75,000 in numerous scholarship opportunities reserved mostly for South Windsor High School students. You can access the application portal through the link on the SWHS homepage. Though the online application is very user-friendly, SWHS School Counseling will offer upcoming workshops in the Career Center to assist students. Workshops will be held on Tuesday, January 28th and Wednesday, January 29th from 1:00 p.m. (for students with Study Hall or Early Release) to 2:45 pm.

Although the deadline has passed for the largest group of scholarships through the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, there are still individual scholarships available from the foundation. Two scholarships designated ONLY for South Windsor students are the Julie Veilleux Scholarship for senior girls and the Joyce Picard Scholarship for students pursuing careers in STEM or health related fields. Both scholarships have February 1st deadlines and can be found in Naviance.

Any students who missed the fall registration window to receive MCC credit for their College Career Pathways classes at South Windsor High School have a second chance to create a Banner ID. MCC’s registration portal has now re-opened for a limited time until February 7th. This will be your LAST chance to establish an MCC Banner ID, which is required in order to earn college credits for any MCC articulated classes you take this year and in the future. Students interested in attending the National Youth Leadership Forum in Washington, DC this summer can stop in to the Career Center for information and a nomination form.

In connection with the Memorial Day commemoration activities to be held on Monday, May 25th, the South Windsor Patriotic Commission is pleased to announce its annual essay contest. Students in grades 9-12 can submit an essay (500 words or less) on the topic of “An American patriot who inspires me and why.” All entries must be received by the Patriotic Commission no later than Friday, February 28th. The entry form and additional details are available in the SWHS main office, in the Career Center and in your Social Studies classes.

Athletic News:

There will be a meeting for all returning and new players interested in playing baseball this season on Wednesday, January 29th after school in room 161. If there are any questions, please see or email Mr. D'Amato.

The ETB Girls Co-Op ice hockey team comprised of South Windsor, East Catholic and Glastonbury will be hosting a game against Matignon High School (Cambridge, MA) on Wednesday, January 29th, at 7:00 p.m. at Warrior Ice Arena in Boston, which is the Boston Bruins Practice Facility located at 90 Guest Street, Boston, MA. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Please support South Windsor High School players Samantha Ostrowski, Caitlyn Caldon and Jessica Pollack by attending or wishing them good luck!
