Today for Black History Month, we recognize STEM pioneer Gladys West. West, a US Navy mathematician, pioneered the Global Positioning System. Her mathematical and computer calculations helped create the earlier military version of what we know as GPS, which is now part of our everyday lives. Gladys West was inducted into the Air Force Space and Missile Pioneers Hall of Fame in 2018.

South Windsor For The Kids is selling 2021 SWFTK t-shirts to raise money for the Huskython - which is a dance marathon to benefit CCMC. Seniors who are still working on their FAFSA - In collaboration with the Connecticut College Bound initiative, UConn invites students who have not yet filed the 2021-22 FAFSA to register for virtual filing workshops. Workshops are free of charge and will be held on Sunday, February 7th at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Once registered, students will receive a checklist of documents and materials to gather for use during the workshop. To raise funding for the kids, SWFTK has a prize calendar for the month of February. For each $5 donation, you will be entered in the drawing for each prize in that week. Seniors: If you are still trying to complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you can get help at a FAFSA workshop offered by CONNTAC Sunday, February 7th from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in Hartford. Are you a fan of Percy Jackson? The Marvel Universe? Then consider signing up for Classical Mythology. In this UCONN ECE course, you will learn some of the greatest stories about gods, heroes, and people that have ever been told.
