Today for Black History Month, we highlight author James Baldwin. James Baldwin is considered to be one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century. He often wrote about and was widely praised for his ideas on race and society. Baldwin published novels, short stories, poems, plays and essays. His first novel entitled, “Go Tell it on the Mountain” was published in 1953.

Are you a fan of Percy Jackson? The Marvel Universe? Then consider signing up for Classical Mythology. In this UCONN ECE course, you will learn some of the greatest stories about gods, heroes, and people that have ever been told. You will also learn some surprising things about modern culture along the way. Classical Mythology information can be found under General Electives - course #0565.

Need help with a class? NHS members are offering free tutoring in any subject over Google Meet. To sign up, go to the Clubs and Activities page and click on the link for the National Honor Society and complete the Google form. See Mrs. Farrell with any questions.

Seniors and Parents/Guardians of Seniors: The yearbook staff is looking for pictures from ALL 4 years of your high school experience. Many of these will go on a special spread in the senior section of the book. See the yearbook page on the website for more information.

The South Windsor Patriotic Commission has announced their annual essay contest for students of South Windsor. High school students are asked to write an essay on “What it means to me to be an American” in 500 words or less. All entries must be received by Monday, March 1. Winners will receive a gift card - first place $100.00, second place $50 and third place $25. Please see your Social Studies teacher or Mrs. Slogesky for the contest flyer and application.

Seniors: a friendly reminder that the South Windsor Dollars for Scholars on-line scholarship application portal is open! This scholarship program is an excellent opportunity for SWHS students to receive awards from local organizations and funds. Important instructions are included on the Parent/Student Sign-In page at www.southwindsor.dollarsforscholars.org. The application portal closes on March 15th with no exceptions. Speak to your school counselor or Mrs. Carty in the Career Center if you have any questions or need assistance during your application process.

To raise funding for the kids, SWFTK has a prize calendar for the month of February. For each $5 donation, you will be entered in the drawing for each prize in that week. For the best chances, send in your donation on Saturday/Sunday, before the week you want to be entered in. Every $5 counts as one entry.
