SCHOOL NEWS
 
SWHS is administering the American Mathematics Contest on Tuesday, November 16. The exam will take place in the cafeteria during Periods 2 and 3. The AMC is a national competition consisting of 25 challenging multiple choice problems given over 75 minutes involving a variety of mathematics. There is a version for 9 and 10 graders, and a separate version for 11 and 12 graders with more complex mathematical topics. If you are interested in taking the test, you must sign up for the AMC 10/12 2021-22 Google Classroom with the code sdiqn2q. Once in the classroom, you must fill out the Google Form to reserve a test by this Thursday, September 30 to guarantee a spot taking the test. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Brindisi in Room 265.
 
Attention Seniors: Please make sure you've joined The Class of 2022 Google Classroom (Class Code: hl4cwxs) and make sure your notifications are turned on so that you don't miss important information. See Mrs. McCool or Ms. Andrews with any questions. 
 
Seniors: The first wave of Capstone presentations will be on Wednesday, October 13th. To be eligible to present, you must have all written work turned in to your advisor's Google Classroom by September 29th. Then, you have until October 6th at 2:00 pm to sign up for a time slot. You can present either in person or virtually using Google Meet. In order to receive an honor cord for Capstone you must: present on October 13 (or in January), receive a score of highly successful on ALL written work, a highly successful on your presentation, AND submit a 3 minute highlight video. Students enrolled in Child Care or Mobile CSP this semester are reminded that this is the last week to enroll for free college credit for your course. If you do not remember how to do this, please speak with your teacher or see Mr. Leon or Mrs. Carty in the Career Center. This enrollment must be done by Thursday, September 30th.
 
There will be CommonApp and College Essay workshops offered in the Career Center on Wednesday (8th period and after school) and Thursday (after school). Come to the Career Center with your chromebook to work on one or both. Whether you are almost done or are just getting started, we can help you with any questions or issues you may have! If these days do not work for your schedule, you can stop in the Career Center anytime you are available or make an appointment.

There are numerous college visits in the Career Center this week. Check out Naviance for the complete list. Today, you can meet with Asnuntuck Community College, Keene State College, and University of New England. On Tuesday, we will have representatives from Endicott College and Paul Smith’s. Wednesday will feature Fairfield University and Louisiana State University. Register in Naviance if you wish to attend and be sure to get permission from your teacher to miss class.
 
CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES

Attention writers and artists: Mind's Eye, our school's literary magazine club, is holding our first meeting this Wednesday, September 29 after school in room 129. New members are welcome.
The Black Student Alliance will be meeting on Thursday, Oct. 7th in room 133 from 2:!5-3:15.  Come join us as we discuss issues and experiences at SWHS, in our communities, and in our nation.  All are welcome!  Our classroom code is DUZV4AU

Are you interested in a future healthcare profession? Do you want to get a chance to talk to various healthcare professionals about their educational journey and experiences working in the medical industry? HOPE Club or Healthcare Occupational Professionals and Education Club is starting up again for the year! Join and meet and talk to guest speakers, get involved with Red Cross Blood Drives, and participate in STEM events! Be there for our first meeting on Tuesday, September 28th at 2:00 p.m. in room 204! 
 
Love Nature? Want to learn more about what's living (or lurking) in your backyard? Join SW Urban Naturalists. Our first meeting will be Wednesday, September 29th at 2:15 p.m. in room 201. Woodworking Club will meet on Wednesdays from 2:10 to 3:10 p.m. beginning on September 29th. Come join us in room 2 - this club is open to all students and no experience is required

The Strategy Club will meet after school on Wednesday, September 29th in room 7.  New members are welcome!
 
Interested in leadership opportunities, service and building community? The Common Ground program is back and is seeking applicants for this upcoming Fall. This program brings dozens of schools together to build leadership, strengthen resumes, serve the community and make new friendships. All information including the schedule and online application are available on Google Classroom with join code l2g6osz. The deadline to apply is September 30th. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Orsini in room 235. 
 
The SADD Club will hold an informational meeting in the AUDITORIUM on Wednesday, September 29th at 7:00 a.m. Join us to learn more about the many issues that we tackle, including distracted driving, drug and alcohol prevention and stress management. All students are welcome to join!
 
This week's Computer Science Club meeting will be on Wednesday September 29th from 2:15 - 3:15 in the Seminar Room!
 
Looking for leadership skills along with the chance to compete in various different events like baking, job interviews, or fashion design, and many more? This nationally recognized club will be holding their first official meeting Thursday, September 30th, 2:00 - 2:45 p.m. in room Wapping 11 with Ms. Porter. Refreshments will be provided.
