November 1st marks the beginning of Native American Heritage Month. The month is an opportunity to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of indigenous peoples, while the learning continues throughout the year. Blood drives across America are facing low reserves due to low donor turnout from the COVID pandemic. We have the ability now to help save lives and donate blood at the SWHS Blood Drive! Join us on Tuesday, November 9th by signing up using any of the QR codes posted around the school or using the link below. You can schedule an appointment for a time that's convenient for you. Please note this drive is only for students and staff. Students must be 17 years or older to donate, but students may donate at age 16 with parental consent. There will be refreshments after your donation. Let's roll up our sleeves and donate blood today! For students interested in learning more about aviation or becoming a pilot, there will be a Young Eagles rally on Saturday, November 6th at the Meriden-Markham Airport. Kids up to 17 years of age can meet with pilots, learn about what they do before, during and after a flight and even take a flight! The event is free, but registration is required, and all participants must attend with a parent or guardian. For information on how to attend, please visit the Career Center to see the posted flyer.
 
The South Windsor Teen Center is open for high school students on Monday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:00-4:30 p.m. If you haven’t been to the Teen Center, we are located across the street from the high school in the Community Center building. Feel free to stop in and see the space, get acquainted with staff, and meet new students! Join us to enjoy a snack, finish homework, or drop in to use our pool tables, ping-pong, and to participate in the countless games and crafts we have to offer.
 
It’s solidarity week!! This is a week to honor inclusivity and stand up as an ally for the Queer community and any other member of a marginalized group. Show your support by purchasing a sticker or ribbon.
 
CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES

The Italian Club is meeting TODAY, Monday, November 1st right after school until the late bus. We will meet in room 226 and go outside weather permitting. Come join us to play bocce, have pizza, and drinks. If you would like to participate, please bring $5 to Mrs. Zaccardelli in room 226. Everyone is welcome!
 
At Home in this New Home (AHNH) is a brand new club at SWHS! We are committed to helping refugees gain comfort in their new home and will be focusing on Afghanistan refugees this year by partnering with the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI). We are looking for new members to help us with our first project - a winter accessory drive collecting new hats, scarves, gloves, and socks to help Afghan refugees prepare for their first New England winter! Join Teens Against Poverty with their first food drive of the year. Please donate non-perishable goods through Friday, November 5th. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to donate sealed boxes of cereal, pasta or other basic canned necessities. All proceeds will be delivered to MACC Charities Community Emergency Food Pantry.
